The Lai Q volleyball team was swept by International, 23-25, 14-25, 21-25, Sunday in the Tai Wo Sports Center. Lai Q attack struggled in the game hitting just .020. The Lai Q fall to 1-2 overall while International ups its record to 3-0.
"We just didn't play well against International," Head Coach Wong Sai Fung said. "We weren't able to get in an offensive rhythm. One of our goals this year was to out-work our opponents, but International out-worked us today. I'm glad we have another match coming. We need to erase the memory of this match and get out and play hard again."
Middle Blocker Kong Kwan Ting had a team-high 6.5 points with 5 kills, 15 digs, and 1.5 blocks. Setter Tang Ngo Lam posted 17 assists and Libero Lee Sin Yan lead the team with 21 digs.
International opened the match with a 25-22 win in the first set. Set one stayed close throughout.
International opened with an early lead and took a 7-3 advantage. Lai Q bounced back, as Kong Kwan Ting 4 consecutive digs irritated her teammates into the game of tempo. The set saw ties at 19, 20, and 21 before International took the lead for good, but not without a Lai Q fight. Lai Q came with one point late in the frame at 24-23, but a team reception error causing by the collision between Lee Sin Yan and Cheung Mei Yu, gave International the set.
Set two was the nightmare to Lai Q, the team capitalized on poor hitting as posting a -.0171 percentage. International killed Lai Q and having a 2-0 game lead.
The Lai Q kept the third set close, but eventually fell 25-21. The set was close once again. However, at 17-20, Lai Q lost Opposite Hitter Ma Yim Shan because of sprained left ankle. Short handed Lai Q can't overcome the turning point and was swept by International in the third set.
Ma Yim Shan is expected to reture to the lineup June 14th against New Youth at 10:30 am in the Mei Lam Sports Center.
