The Lai Q Volleyball team defeated the Vigor in a thrilling five-game match Sunday (28-Jun) to win bronze in the Div.A2 Championships at Tsuen Wan West Sports Center. Lai Q defeated Vigor by scores of 25-22, 25-23, 21-25, 23-25 and 15-9.

Reserved middle blocker Lai Wing Yin had a monster game for the Lai Q, hitting at a blistering .400 clip, recording 9 kills and 9 digs and 1.5 blocks. However, setter Tang Ngo Lam led the team high with .440 attack percentage.

Opposite hitter Szeto Po Ying led the Lai Q with a double-double, recording 13 kills and 26 digs. Outside hitter Ma Yim Shan posted another double-double of 11 kills and 26 digs.

The Lai Q won the first two games and looked to put things away in game three until the Vigor rattled off to take a commanding 21-25 lead en route to the win.

Lai Q came out with a vengeance in game four, sprinting to an 18-11 lead. Vigor came right back to cut the lead to 22-20, eventually tying the game at 23-23. Things went back and forth until the Vigor gradually pulled away for the 25-23 win and forced game five.

Once again, Lai Q came blasting out of the gates and took a 10-2 lead. This time, the Lai Qs were able to put the Vigor away. At match point, an attack error by the Vigor player gave Lai Q the win.

Middle blocker Kong Kwan Ting, the Captain, was nominated as MVP by Head Coach Wong Sai Fung. "She showed obvious improvement to us when comparing with the last year. We wondered how many was left in her tank at first, but she proved us there was still a lot.¡¨

She is the player who performed steadily all the games. She played well in offensively and defensively with average 6.8 points (.300 attack pct.) and led the team high with 1.2 blocks per game and also posted 6.6 digs per game.

¡§Throughout the Div.A2 Championships, Lai Q gained the team development this year. The Lai Q rookies, Kwan Ching Man (2nd year with LQ), Wong-Yeung Hiu Fung and Wong Oi Ying had a huge contribution in the game and sometimes their performance was out of the expectation¡¨ Wong Sai Fung added.
