Lai Q Falls To Wah Ching In Five Sets

Lai Q volleyball team turned in its most frustrated performance of the game ¡V committed 36 team errors - but Lai Q fell just two points short in its upset attempt against Wah Ching Sunday, 25-20, 19-25, 14-26, 25-21, 13-15.

Two Lai Qs tailed double-doubles. Outside Hitter Cheung Mei Yu led the team
with 18 kills and 14 digs. Opposite Hitter Ma Yim Shan also had a double-double
with 11 kills and 14 digs. Libero Law Man Wai tailed a team high with 16 digs.


Two teams played tight in the first frame, Lai Q took the advantage to 22-20.
A late attempt error from a Wah Ching player forcing their Head Caoch to call a
timeout. After the break, Lai Wing Yin tailed a killed followed by a serve ace by
Kong Kwan Ting that sent Lai Q a win of the first set.


The Wah Ching players came out swinging in the second set, after falling by
a 25-20 in the first frame. Wa Ching players played aggressively to lead Wah
Ching a win.


In the third set, Wah Ching built an early 10-5 lead and later stretched the advantage to 18-8. The attack machines of Lai Q were out of service that only providing .137 attack percentage. Despite of a 6-2 run, the consecutive misunderstanding on defense of Lai Qs give Wa Ching a 2-1 lead.


Lai Q didn¡¦t go away quietly, putting on an offensive show in the fourth set. Lai Q won the set but lost Outside Hitter Szeto Po Ying as she sprained her left ankle at the beginning of the forth set. Kwan Ching Man came in the game and served as a X-factor as she played both offensively and defensively. She added 3 of her 6 kills in this set that helping Lai Q to force a fifth set.


Lai Q couldn't complete the comeback in the fifth frame, falling 15-13.


Lai Q will face International at Tai Wo Sports Center (15:30 pm) on 7 Jun 2009.
