Question:
What are the relative merits of permanent versus term life insurance?

Answer:
That's a good question -- and it's one we get a lot.  The primary advantage of permanent life insurance is the level premium and coverage and the fact that it may build cash value.

On the other hand, term insurance is more affordable because it allows you to purchase only the coverage you require for a specified number of years.

Purchasing life insurance is unlike buying any other product.  You must first determine what your main goals are with regards to protecting your loved ones in case of your death.  Your HLRP agent can help you define these goals and determine the right type of policy for you.

TIPS: Purchasing life insurance

Purchasing life insurance is an important event -- one that should only be undertaken after much care and consideration.  The following tips will provide some valuable guidance:
Take your time. Make sure you understand the types of policies you are considering and that they encompass all of your family's needs.
Don't procrastinate.
Purchasing insurance is an important decision -- but putting it off because you're not sure you understand all the implications is unwise.
No question is a silly question.
Make sure you ask all your questions before purchasing the policy -- no matter how silly you think they may be.
Talk to your family.
When you purchase a policy, inform your beneficiaries of the type of insurance and benefits you purchased; they need to plan for the future as well.
Answer truthfully all the questions on the application forms.
False information might result in the premature cancellation of your plan or in its proceeds being withheld from your benficiaries.
Review the policy for errors.
Notify your agent immediately if you find any mistakes.
Review your policy periodically.
Make sure your coverage continues to fit your lifestyle and needs.
