24. Alice Sally "Allie"
WALDROP was born about 1790 in Newberry Co., S.C.. There is a David
Waldrop located in Barren County Kentucky in 1810. Age ranges in household 2
males 5-9 years, 1 male 20-29 years (who is probably David), also one female
20-29 years old, which is probably the wife. I believe these ages would probably
preclude David Waldrop as being the father of Alice Waldrop who married Richard
Emberton in 1812, as there is no female other than who I presume to be the wife
of David listed. Could be a brother of Alice?
There is also a Younger Waldrop listed in Barren Co. Kentucky in 1810. Age ranges
in his household were 2 males under five, 1 male 5-9, 1 male, 15-19, 3 females
under five, 1 female 5-9, 2 females 10-14, 1 female 20-29. Looking at the ages
in household, it is possible this is another brother of Alice Waldrop, and
perhaps she resided in this household, as one of the females 10-14???? I doubt
this could be the father.
Barren County, Kentucky marriage archives, and/or birth and deaths need to be
researched.David gave consent for marriage. Name on marriage bond was Alice.
She was married to Richard R. EMBERTON II (son of Richard
EMBERTON I and Susannah COULTER) on 16 Jan 1812 in Barren
Co., KY.. Richard R. EMBERTON II was born in 1792
in Washington Co., TN.. He died on 13 Nov 1865 in Tompkinsville, Monroe Co.,
KY.. Richard R. was a young man in his teens when he came to Barren County,
Kentucky with his mother, Susannah, nee Coulter, and three broithers and a sister.
On Jauary 16, 1812 Richard R. Was married to (Sally) Alice) Waldrip in Barren
County, Kentucky.
He enlisted in the army at Glasgow, Kentucky. He was called to active duty in
November 1813, and was assigned to Captain Caleb Holders Company in the 17th
regiment, U.S. Infantry. He served 18 months and was honorably discharged at
Detroit, Michigan, on May 10, 1815. He was 22 years old, and his physical description
was as follows: 5 ft, 5 1/2 inches tall, light hair, blue eyes, and fair complexion.
(This does not fit the descriptions of the brown-eyed, olive toned complexion
Embertons.)
His height is about right though. Perhaps this is where my youngest brother,
gene, gets his blue eyes and fair complexion.
He returned to Barren County, Kentucky whee he farmed and did carpentry work.
He and Sally had 10 children before 1840. They had four sons and six daughters.
The eldest son, David, was born in 1814. The names of the next two daughters
have eluded us, so far. During the 1840's Richard R and Sally "alie"
separated. The 1850 census indicates that sally is living with her son William
and four daughters and granddaughter. The same census has Richard R. living
with Rosa Mainor (widow of Leroy Mainor who died in 1838). Richard has one son
Richard Cornelius and one daughter living with him. Also in this household are
Rosa's daughter Elizabeth and her two daughters. On 18 October 1850, Richard
applied for 160 acres of land in Monroe County, Kentucky, and on 26 February
1851 it was granted. Sally (allie) received her divorce degree on 17 February
1849. On February 1853 Richard R. and Rose were married by Oliver H. Bennett,
Justice of the Peace, at Tompkinsville, Kentucky. Richard R. Emberton died
at Tompkinsville, Monroe County, Kentucky on November 13, 1865. His first wife
"Sally" died sometime after 1850. His second wife Rose, died 20 August
1878. the location of their graves is unknown except for Monroe County, Kentucky.
See Rose Mainor's notes.
There is a Ruben Emberson in Fayette Co., Kentucky in 1790. This could be a
mis-spelling of the name, for the Emberson's listed on the census are mostly
from North Carolina. This is the only one listed near Barren County with a different
spelling.
There were three brothers listed in Barren County Kentucky on the 1800 census.
You can then follow these brothers,? (His son?) Walter accompanied the other
two brothers to Monroe County, Kentucky where they stayed until Walter's son
Daniel appears, and you can follow them down to Daviess, Henderson, and Hancock
Counties to where your grandfather was born. The rest is history.
We need to go to Monroe and Barren Counties in Kentucky and check birth, marriage,
and death records to verify this.Received Bounty Land Grant. Alice Sally "Allie"
