-In 1864 the original mission church was buuilt of logs one mile north
of the present church on Highway 15 in Kingston Mills. Land was donated
in 1886 for a church and rectory. Construction began in 1887 and was
completed in 1888. The stone used to build the church was quarried
about one and one-half miles north of Kingston Mills. In 1896 the
mission became Holy Name parish.
-The League of Sacred Heart was establishedd January 7, 1900.
-In 1925 the Catholic Women's League was esstablished.
-The Sisters of St. Martha were brought to Kingston Mills in 1958 to
teach at Holy Name Elementary School. A convent was built between the
school and the church. The parishioners designed and constructed the
building. It is now used as the Parish Centre and is called Msgr Raby
House.
-In 1969, Holy Name School was built to acccommodate the rapidly growing population of the surrounding area.
-The Vocations Office was part of the parissh from August 1992 to 2006.
Many men have come to discern their future; a number have since been
ordained to the priesthood.
-St. Martha’s Elementary School openeed its doors in September
1995 to accommodate the growing number of children in that area.
-The Knights of Columbus was established inn 1996
-Making a covenant with the poor became a JJubilee 2000 project.
5% of the Parish weekly offering is shared with the poor - locally,
nationally and internationally.
-Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament began NNovember 2000 in the
Church. It takes place in the Chapel of Monsignor Raby House
every Thursday from
6 am to 10 pm. We pray for Vocations, for the Sanctity of Life and for the Sick.
-As the Parish grew it was necessary to beggin celebrating Sunday Mass
in a larger venue and so a 10:30 am Mass began in St, Martha School Gym
in 2002.
