Cutoffs

You can wear cutoffs if you like, you can dress like a hobo too, we don't care, in fact, we think it would be funny, but there is an 8-hour maximum (9 hours for the early start) limit for both races.  There is a 4-hour cutoff for the 50k at the end of the first loop.

Schwag

We hope to have some good schwag for everyone.  Everyone who enters and starts the race will get a T-shirt.  25k finishers will get a medal for finishing, the 50k finishers will get a finishers shirt.

Drop bags

You will be able to have drop bags at every refreshment stop if you want.  Make sure that they are labeled with your name and the refreshment stop.  We'll bring them back after the race.   If you leave anything behind after the race, we may donate the stuff to charity, or we may just go thru it and claim whatever good stuff is left for ourselves.

Aid

There will be two refreshment stops as well as the start/finish area.  These will be about 5 to 6 miles apart, so carry a bottle with you.  These stops will be stocked with the usual assortment of ultrafood and beverages.

Watching the race

There are numerous places from which family, friends, and anyone who's interested can watch your progress, or lack thereof.  We’ll have some maps available pointing out the best places to watch and cheer your runner (or slogger) on.  The Puri Crest picnic area also has a playground for the young'uns to use, so bring them along.  However, we won't be able to provide any babysitting services.

Awards

Awards will be given three deep in the usual 10 year age groupings as well as overall male and female winners.  We will also have some different awards and giveaways for different categories.  Awards for the 25k will be given out at 12pm.  50k awards at 3pm.

Some Rules

Here are a few of the rules.  We'll make up others as needed.  First, NO TRASHING THE PARK.  If you are observed dropping litter of any kind, you will be removed from the race.  Period.  Second, no cutting the course.  There's no prize money for this race, so no incentive.  Third, no crew aid allowed between aid stations.  That just makes it a little unfair for those who don't have the luxury of a crew.  Fourth, no pacers.  Come on, it's only a little 50k race with lots of time to finish.  You can handle that without a pacer.  Fifth, there will be a separate liability waver from the state park that will need to be signed when you pick up your race packet.  Sixth, you're not supposed to park your car alongside the roads.  We'll ask you to move you vehicle if you do.  I don't want the state park to get after me.  We'll be providing a shuttle before the race from the Olson Lake swimming area parking lot.  It's about a 1/2 mile from the start.  Seventh, please yield to the horses when you're on the horse trails.  Let them know you're coming up behind them well ahead of time and if you are coming head on, step to the side and wait for them to pass.  Eighth, make sure you check in at every aid station so we can get you your race splits.

The point of these rules is that Rock Cut State Park has been more than enthusiastic about us having the race.  We want to keep it that way so we can do it again.  We also plan on having course marshals out to help with any problems etc.

Post Race Feed

There will be a post race feed.  It will begin at 1pm.  This will be a hobo stew type of feed.  This means that if you want food you MUST bring one small can of any sort of veggie (corn, green beans, peas, potatoes, mushrooms, pintos, etc.) per person that will be eating.  Don't bring anything disgusting.  So, if you bring your family of four, bring four cans of veggies plus a couple extra bucks per person.  The race will provide the stew meat, drinks, and dessert.  The race will also make one batch of stew vegetarian.  If you don't know what hobo stew is, picture all these cans of veggies poured into a big kettle, along with the stew meat and cooked over a fire.  It's great stuff!  Unfortunately, no post race beer, the park doesn't allow alcohol.

Packet Pickup

You can pick up your T-shirt and whatever free stuff we hand out starting Sat. Sept. 25th from 2pm to 6pm at Puri Crest picnic area, and race morning starting at 6:30am.  The State Park doesn’t open the gates until 6am, so don’t show up before then.

Camping and Lodging

There is camping at Rock Cut State Park, get your reservation in early, there are also numerous motels in the area.

Refunds

There are no refunds after September 1st.  Before that, we’ll send you your money back, although why you would want to back out of this race is beyond me.
