Hey
there runners, spouses, partners, significant others, and insignificant others
(better evaluate your relationship) of a runner of some sort?
If you are one of the above, or not, and are not planning on running the Hobo
Run (we’re shocked and appalled that you’re not entering), but
would like to help out, or just laugh at the funny looking people running
through the woods. Guess what? We’d love to have you volunteer to help
out. As many of you know, volunteers are the lifeblood of any race, whether
it’s an ultra or not.
There are many reasons to volunteer to help at this phenomenal and earthshaking
event. Here are the top ten reasons to volunteer at the 1st Ever Rock Cut
Hobo Run.
10. Because you’re altruistic and selfless.
9. Because you have nothing better to do on a weekend in September.
8. Because it’s fun.
7. Because you get to hang out with really cool people (other ultrarunners
of course).
6. You’re thinking about starting your own race and how hard can it
be to do this stuff.
5. You want to laugh at the crazy runners who think they can run 31 miles
through Rock Cut State Park.
4. You get a free T-shirt. How cool is that?
3. You get to eat hobo stew without paying for it. Once again, how cool it
that?
2. You need to get in a volunteer requirement for another race such as the
Javelina Jundred. Hey, we’ll sign off on that for you.
1. Because you just want to.
Here are some of the
things that we need volunteers for.
1. Race packet assembly
on Friday evening, September 24th.
2. Runner check in on both Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.
3. Refreshment stop (aid station) help.
4. Transportation of supplies to the refreshment stops. Maybe trips to the
store to restock.
5. Course marking on Saturday.
6. I can’t think of anything else at the moment, but we’ll put
you to work doing something.
If you are inspired
by my words to volunteer, then contact the wonderful lady I have as my volunteer
coordinator. Here’s the scoop.
