Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
of the RPG

Here are some questions that many people ask. If you have a question, please read these first because, in many cases, the question you had has already been asked and on here, and it will save us time not to have to read e-m@il from you when you could have found it here. If your question is not answered here, e-m@il us. Thanks!

What if I don't know how to role play? Lucky you. We have a page for that. Visit our How to RPG page!

Can I be a character from the books?Yes, you can be a character from the books. Better check the member list first, though, to see if your character is already taken! And make sure you can role play a lot; characters from the books are usually depended on in the plot lines, and if a character isn't online for a while, the plot line usually either stops or people start typing stuff like "Hermione isn't here. So...she can just be knocked out or something." So..before you jump in and say, "I want to be Hermione!" please think if you're able/willing to make that commitment. *note* If you are not posting very much we may give your character to another person who will actually post!

What if the book character I want is taken? Make up your own character! Please! =) Sometimes it's more fun to have a made up character than it is to have one from the books. And if you really want to be a character from the books, e-m@il us and tell us, and if the person playing that character doesn't RP for a while, we might ask you to take over, as characters from the books are usually pretty vital. =)

My name hasn't appeared on the student list yet. What should I do? That depends. If we replied to your sorting hat submission and you have your passwords, we haven't gotten around to updating the Profiles/Member lists, so don't panic. We'll get to it (eventually), so you can go ahead and Role-Play. If we haven't replied and you don't have your passwords, that means either a) we haven't checked our mail yet, b) we're drowning in e-m@il and it's going to take us a while, c) your submission didn't reach us, or d) we don't like you and you can't be in our RPG! (no, not really. 'd' was just a joke). If it's been two weeks or more, you should probably e-m@il us with the subject "New Member" and ask us if we got your submission or not.

Why do I have to have an e-m@il address to join the RPG? We need you to have an e-m@il address so that we can get in touch with you about the RPG. We will be sending out newsletters whenever there are major changes in the RPG (ie, we start a new "guided plot"), or if your character is inactive for too long. Also, for the "guided plot" it may be nessecary for us to get in touch with you about something (ie, playing an evil character or something). It is also so that you can take classes and earn house points.

What if I just joined the RPG? Feel free to jump right in! It may be a little confusing at first, but don't worry. (Most) people in the RPG are nice and help new people (just a hint, don't ask a Slytherin anything if you're new). For the "guided plot", you may want to read the updates on the main page before you get started, then you should read the "guided plot" page and then, if you're still confused, you should post an OOC message in one of the forums and ask for help. If nobody else will help you, us Headmistresses will. =)

Guided plot? What in the world is that?!!! *groan* NOooooo! Not the dreaded "guided plot" question! The guided plot was a little invention of ours to keep the site active. If you want to know more about it/need help, go read the Guided Plot page (yes, we will, I'm sure, eventually have a FAQ page for the Guided plot as well)! If you still don't understand after reading it, then post a question or (*sigh*) e-m@ilus. I suppose. But your question had better not be answered somewhere on the site already!

Why do you want us to role play 2-3 times a week? So that our plot line(s) remain active! It's too keep the site open and interesting. Otherwise, people tend to not post anything. And that's B-O-R-I-N-G.

What if I go on vacation/don't have access to a computer for an extended period of time? No big deal. E-m@il us to let us know so that we won't send you e-m@ils warning you that we'll delete your character if you don't come back. Since we don't have weekly homework, you don't have to worry about that. If you're on a Quidditch team, let us know in advance so that we don't schedule games when you're away; if it's inevitable, we'll get on of the backup players to fill in for you.

How many characters are we allowed to have? BAD! *does impression of McGonagall's glare* Someone didn't read the Rules! I refuse to answer that question! >:[

I want to have more than one character. Are they allowed to be in different houses? Yes! In fact, it is suggested that you have your characters in different houses (it's confusing otherwise). We do regulate it that only one of your characters can play Quidditch (though they can both try out, in case one didn't make the house team anyway), however.

How do you play Quidditch in an RPG? Now I have a question for you. Why can't people read other pages?!!!? (okay, if you're a newbie and haven't been to the common rooms yet, I forgive you. But if you HAVE been to the common rooms...) Go to the Quidditch page to find out.
