How Alicia Saw It

How Hollie Saw It

Alicia's version

By the time our third date rolled around, I think the glow of novelty was wearing off. The girls and I were quite comfortable doing things around each other which we'd normally do when alone. In fact, one Tuesday night (which would change the course of our destiny forever), that's just what we were doing together. Annick was online, spending extra time checking her website for errors, because she was taking advantage of my super-fast internet connection. Hollie and I were lying on the bed -but not in that way; we were waiting for our Tuesday night TV to start. Hollie was ignoring me while I hyperventilated into a paper bag (which I kept by my bed for just that purpose). This was our normal Tuesday night routine, because on Tuesday nights I have to run all over the house making sure I'm taping all the shows I want to watch. For now, we were watching -of course- Buffy and Smallville. Annick stopped long enough to bring more paper towels for the drool. I stopped (drooling and hyperventilating and running around the house, that is) long enough to question whether this was hindering our dating atmosphere a little. We all decided that the date would officially start after 9 o'clock.
So. After 9 o'clock, we all took off our underwear. This was a part of a bargain we had made with Annick: as long as she wore clothes, we would all go commando. It was a unity thing. Then we all realized that none of us were wearing underwear in the first place. Hollie pulled out her tiny purse and started pulling things out of it -wallet, keys, cell phone, small stuffed animal, two lightbulbs, a model airplane, a 70-page notebook, and underwear. "Just in case," she said, holding the thong out to me. "Hm," I said, tongue-tied. I held out my paper bag, not knowing what else to do, and Hollie dropped her undies in. I pulled open my underwear drawer and Annick immediately started digging through, because, apparently, she didn't have an extra pair with her. "Do we need to put them on first?" I asked, my gift of speech finally returning. "Just for the principle of the thing?" I was wondering how this date took a turn for the kinky so fast!
"Um, no," Hollie replied, looking at me like I was crazy. I couldn't believe it! I was holding the girl's underwear in a bag! And just for that, I might not give them back. So there.
Annick was holding up one of my bras, eyes wide. Aww, I hadn't realized how long it had been since I'd seen her wearing my favorite expression. My heart swelled.
Suddenly, a feeling of foreboding swept over me. I frowned. "Are you sure you don't have anything of your own you can put in there?" I suggested. I guess I'm more protective of my underwear than I thought, for what else could I be concerned about? Everything else seemed to be going great with us.
From my drawer, Annick pulled out the pair of undies we had bought on our last date. Right at that moment, my mother came to my door. I had to explain the whole thing to her, and as I told her the story, I realized how strange this all sounded. She just held out her handfull of tampons to Hollie. "For Lex," she explained. Annick silently wondered if Lex was having a sexual identity crisis, but said nothing. I started whispering all of Lex's 'issues' in her ear and her eyes got wider and wider until Hollie told me to stop. I waved my paper bag at her menacingly.
Finally, I told Annick that the truth was, Lex had spent so much time in the bathroom, he had gotten bored and started cleaning. Now Hollie could never find anything when she needed it. My mom said that she just wanted Lex to have something to play with. She was sure he had to be a little lonely, but I personally don't think he needs feminine products to play with when he's already isolated in a feminine world. I guess Lex doesn't have to defend his manliness.
About this time, I realize my mind has wondered. I can't believe I'm contemplating Lex when I'm on a date with Anakin and Hollie Lollie (those are our bedroom pet names). "So, what do we want to do?" I ask them.
"I dunno, what do you want to do?" Hollie replies.
"I dunno, what does An want to do?" I reply. We look at Annick. Annick looks confused.
Traditionally, we have watched movies, sat around with food, or gone for a drive when at a loss for activities. I wanted to do something different, but I didn't know what. While we thought about it, Hollie played solitaire and I wrote in my online diary. I kept checking Hollie's online diary, too, to see if she'd written anything new, because I wasn't used to having her sitting there behind me instead of on her own computer at home. I looked over Annick's list of errors on her website. Annick started taking clothes off, because she was bored. And hot. I told her she could write a poem on the computer or something instead, and gave up my chair to crawl back into my bed. It's the middle of summer, but I'm still cold. I clutched my paper bag to me and curled up around it. Rolly came running into my room and froze when he saw I was entertaining company, but when he saw me in bed, he crawled up under the covers beside me. He felt that Annick had given him a dirty look when he came in, so I told her to write "i love cats" 50 times in the notebook after all the website errors and doodles. The notebook was almost full, anyway.
The room was silent for awhile, and when I felt someone lay across my legs, I thought Hollie was trying to play footsie with me. Relieved that there was still some date activity going on, I looked up only to realize it was another cat. Actually, two cats. And the neighbor dog, Riley, was sleeping at the foot of my bed. I looked around and realized I had been asleep, because my room was empty.
Unhappily, I crawled out of bed and went out into the other room, where it was very dark, except for all the lit candles. Hollie had found them in her purse. I saw that she had also found her camera, but there was no film in it. Hollie used to take pictures all the time, but I think she might be ashamed of our relationship now. I found Annick in front of the TV watching porn.
"Annick!" I yelled. She started to say something about her mother, but I was still half asleep. "Where's Hollie?" I asked.
She told me, last she'd seen, Hollie had been on the phone. Calling Lex.
Suddenly there was a bright flash of light from behind the snack bar in the kitchen. Annick and I both ran towards the kitchen area. Now we could see that Hollie was frantically turning on the water in the sink. She pulled out the hose sprayer and aimed it at us just as we got to the corner of the snack bar. Annick and I yelled and waved until we realized she was actually spraying at the unidentifiable science experiment on the floor. "It came out of the fridge!" Hollie explained to Annick and I as we all stood there dripping (Hollie from her hose and Annick and I from our clothes) and staring at the now limp and even more unidentifiable science project on the floor. We looked from the mess on the floor, to each other, then back to the mess on the floor.
"Oh no!" I suddenly realized. "I didn't stop the tape upstairs!" I took off running -well, slogging, wetly- for the stairs to stop one of the tapes I'd been taping off the TV onto. I paused to breathe into the paper bag I was still clutching, and then realized I was still holding Hollie's underwear captive. "Ew!" I threw the bag over my shoulder. "These smell like your cat!"
"Ew!" Annick, who had accidently been hit in the face by the bag, repeated. "Cats are evil!"
At which point, all the cats in the house immediately started plotting their revenge upon the interloper. I knew I needed to get her out of the house quickly. Hollie wanted to go home to Lex, anyway, so she offered to give Ani a ride. I walked them out. Charlie was waiting outside under a tree. We all sighed, realizing our date had not gone very well, and paused, trying to prolong the moment. Some of my serenity-challenged neighbors were setting off fireworks. We all crawled on top of Charlie and laid back to watch for awhile. The moon shown down softly on all of us and Hollie knew all we needed now was music. She got in the car and fiddled around with several things until Annick and I could hear music start playing. It was a tape of the "lousy music" Annick liked to share with us. When Bon Jovi started singing "this ain't a love song", we all sighed and I think we all realized, in our own ways, that although we had a future as friends, our dating relationship couldn't go anywhere. I knew I needed my space, and that I could never seriously be with anyone who carried candles in their purse, or didn't like cats. I also started to wonder about all those candles burning back in the house and realized I needed to go back inside pretty soon. I looked at my two girlfriends and we all reached an understanding without speaking. Actually, I'm not sure if Hollie was awake at the time. Whether awake or not, she did slide off of Charlie and then get up and crawl into the driver's side. U2 was singing the song about the headlights of a stretch car from Batman Forever. Annick got in the back of the car, then remembered Hollie wasn't her usual chauffeur and got out, then back in the passenger side. She was taking the rest of her clothes off as she went, saying she didn't have to follow our rules anymore, so ha. After they drove off, I reminded myself that this wasn't really the end. (In fact, maybe we were only "taking a break".) I kept hearing Bogart in my head saying "we'll always have Paris, dolls". I would see them both again, and even if they were with men, and it hurt to see, I knew that we would always have this- not just in our memories, but because it would make our friendship deeper. (Besides, if I ever decided I wanted them back, I had my ways.)
Then I looked down and realized I was holding Hollie's underwear in a bag. And I smiled.

An's version

Goodness me... third date already... time flies by, I'm getting old(er). Besides, what are those butterflies in my tummy? Ah yes.. the girls are coming over to my place. Hey I've made a special effort to tidy up my bedroom. Good thing it's not very big (some kind of ground floor attic). I dunno how I woulda managed to clean it on time otherwise...

The girls were late... but I wasn't mad at them.. they had to travel a long distance to come and see me so it was ok. I'd made sure the house was empty on that day... kicked the monsters away... the lovebirds were in a little bungalow and so my girlfriends and I would be all alone. Smiling at that thought I suddenly realised *maybe* I shoulda thought about getting something to eat at least... although Leshy g doesn't like food that much. Oh well, we'd think about it later on.

I decided to go stand in front of the house, in case they were driving around trying to find my house... I didn't want *my* girlfriends to meet my relatives... knowing them they would keep Hol and Lesh the whole day and would spy on us and it would spoil it all. There they were... exactly what I thought.. they were starting to talk to my great aunt... not good! I made big signs and managed to take them away from the gossipy relies quick enough. I took them to my house, opened the door and let them in after they had been greeted by Mr. Helios. Hollie was pretty much impressed by the noise... even more so as she had brought
Lex over. I told her she could get away with it as long as the redhead didn't get in my room... and took them to my bedroom. Alicia stared at the poem on my door while Hol explained that they were late mostly because Leshy g had wanted to stop at a showroom on her way to look at car. Hollie Lollie couldn't remember what car it was and I was at a loss.. I managed to make her listen to me for a sec and asked her about the car...

I finally managed to make them sit on my bed - I had the Loreto flags on it - and I was getting a little bit nervous... because they seemed to be expecting something exciting and all that. Hol suddenly jumped up looking very impressed... I was wondering what I had done.. it was Raoul... she stared at him in such a way I thought her eyes would pop out. Lex.. started trying to get into my bedroom so I slammed the door in his face. That's when Leshy got up to look at the *other* side of my door and called Hol... it wasn't very romantic but I liked my door so I didn't mind too much. After all the awe at the sight of thesilver paint, I thought I might as well tell them there wasn't any food. They were horrified I had invited them in my house.. in my *bedroom* and I hadn't thought of feeding them. I opened the fridge and let Hol try to find something in it while I looked at the cd's in my dad's bedroom and in the living room. I decided we'd start by Steve Miller... just to put us in the right mood, you know? I could see Hol starting to sway her hips to 'Take the money and run'. What's good about Steve Miller is you get to know his songs very quick. You get bored quick too... luckily I had my CD's with me. As there's a good amount of lousy music on them, the girls felt completely at ease.

I looked at Hol's catch for the day - eggs, onions... chocolate. At least, I had 2L of Orangina with me. I told Hol to choose between the yellow and the red one. She said she'd start by the yellow one... I gave her a glass and the bottle. I offered Leshy g a cup of tea. I decided I'd do poached eggs on continental bread with baked beans.. and some champagne (I'd found a bottle in the fridge): since it was too late for breakfast and too early for lunch.. we'd make it a brunch. Lex had managed to climb on my knees somehow and the girls looked at me while I opened the bottle... Lex jumped as the cork went off and Hol ran to him while I laughed. Then as I was looking at his red hair something came back to my mind... Hol had named her cat after my sister's red problem! So basically, she had *again* taken Antonio with her... this guuuuuy!!!!

I was so upset Alicia said she had something in her bag that would make me feel better. She went to get it and while she was away I thought I'd take all my clothes off. Just coz I was so annoyed and no longer in the mood to behave in a civilised way. To my surprise, Leshy wasn't quite dressed either. I thought of this article that said 'more of a relationship happens clothed than unclothed at any rate!' and I grinned. The woman who'd written this didn't know the holiciakin. Leshy showed me what it was she had gone to fetch: a Tango cd! I put it in the cd player immediately. I felt a little bit guilty about leaving Hol out... and at the same time thought she'd be upset if she noticed we were not wearing much... I glanced at her and realised she was way too busy hugging Lex to even notice. Leshy and I started tango-ing and Lex got intrigued because of the little ringing sound coming from my anklet. He hopped out of Hol's arms and ran to me... figuring out where the noise was coming from he jumped on my ankle and bit me hard. I screamed and yelled and whined... cats hate me.. and vice versa. Hollie who had been running after him lifted her head and saw Leshy and I as dressed up as Adam and Eve (the big q though is.. who was Adam and who was Eve?). As guilt crashed on me like a huge wave I saw tears well up in her eyes.. uh oh... taking a chance I asked her.. 'want to tango too?'. She shook her head violently and grabbed Lex again. People really behave in an odd way when Antonio's around. After some cooing we managed to talk her into dancing with us but it didn't look too erotic anymore...

I left the circle to go and have a look at the eggs... they were ready. I called them, passed the food over and they gulped it down. By then Hol was trying the red Orangina... and soon asked if she could go to pee for a sec. While she was away I put all the stuff in the sink and took Leshy back to my bedroom. She said she wanted to look at my trophies again. (I think she's particularly obsessed with the nipple trophy.) While the comp was connecting she said she wanted to go and see Rolly's steak house. From the toilet Hola heard her and started yelling she wanted to go to Caudan. Ok good... we'd just had brunch and they wanted to go to a steak house + Port Louis. I tried to explain it was in opposite directions but they wouldn't listen. Alicia didn't want to eat out.. she just wanted to *see* Rolly's steak house. hm! I agreed to take them to both places just coz. So I dressed up quickly and so did Leshy. As soon as Hola got out, I put Lex in a little bag and started walking, followed by my girlfriends.

We took the bus to Vacoas first. We got some whistles on the way and I explained to my gf's they shouldn't turn their heads when they heard people whistling or they could get bad surprises. As we went on the main road I showed them the Plaza (and they wanted to see it inside.. argh!) and Foto First and Rolly's steak house, and Orchard Tower. We got off on the following bus stop and realising we were in Quatre Bornes, they decided they wanted to see my school. 'No no no'... they managed to make me walk all that distance though! We then walked back to the Paloma bus stop this time and waited for the Port Louis bus. Luckily I thought of taking the Express to Port Louis so we didn't do the same itinerary again... Hollie got all excited at the sight of all the sugar cane fields, Alicia wanted to know how long it was gonna be and Lex was biting my hand through the bag. As for me, I thought it was a good thing I had taken my sunnies...

We finally got off the bus in Victoria bus terminal and the girls asked me if it wasn't the name of the bus terminal in sez... I tried to explain it all about the British rule in mu and sez and rod but kinda gave up... and took them straight to La Flore Mauricienne. I was in the mood for a milkshake, you know? Besides, all the talk about sez had made me feel homesick. After drinking a milkshake I took them to the Port Louis waterfront and Hollie thought she was already in Caudan. It was kind of hard to explain she still had to walk some distance before getting to Caudan. When we got near the big Casino I told them *now* we were in Caudan and Hol started running around like mad. She insisted on making us visit all the shops... IV play, ffwd, Liquid, DSL, The Spot, Pardon... *everything* I bought myself a Frutina and told her I'd wait for her on the big steps in the Craft Market. Leshy decided to go with her and I found myself with Lex. As we were both getting a little bit bored we decided to go to The Blue Penny museum... I looked at the stationery, thought of my girlfriends, asked Ananda Devi was there on that day so I thought I'd buy Lesha a book and have Ananda Devi sign it for her.. I was so happy to have met her!

When I got back to the craft market, they were each sitting on one of the great stairs and - apparently - they had just had a fight. I asked what was wrong and Hol said Leshy had bought the last ffwd pink skirt in the shop... 00. I gave her the stationery and it cheered her up a bit. I showed her Equateur and told her to try her luck there. And.. indeed she found a pink skirt too. I gave Leshy the book I'd bought her and we gave one another a big threesome hug in public. At this point it was more of a friendly hug than a (girl)friendly hug... As Hola had never been on a boat, I offered to take the harbour cruise... and when we got out, everything was back to normal. Or almost. It hadn't quite been like a grande canal lovers' gondola, you know? As we were a little bit weary after walking around Caudan I said we could go get the chauffeur. They thought it'd be nice too so I took Hol's phone, called my dad and asked him if we could get the chauffeur. He said it was ok but he was trying a new car. I was hoping it was the Alfa Romeo or a BMW... he said we could choose and Alicia overheard the conversation... she grabbed Hol's phone and asked if we could get the...
~Aston Martin!

We walked to the Plantation House and the chauffeur was there waiting for us with a green Aston Martin. Leshy was overwhelming, Hol and Lex were together again and I opened the window to try and not get carsick. As we passed by Spar, Hol suddenly decided she *had* to go buy some more red Orangina so we stopped over for a sec. Leshy filled the shopping cart with tons of useless stuff. Depressed, I bought a bottle of rum and we got back into the car.

We got back home knackered and I fell asleep immediately. When I woke up 48 hours later, I found lots of red hair on my bed and a little note on my table. It said:
Dear Anakin,
we had a great time with you but we didn't dare wake you up before leaving. While you were sleeping, we considered our relationship and decided we should stop dating (for a while at least).
Friends forever,
Holicia.

I noticed my sega costume and my saree were on the floor and vaguely remembered Hol trying to put my saree on while Leshy kept on insisting that if the sega skirt could fit, the top would fit her too. I smiled and went back to bed.

Hollie's version

It had been so long since our last date, I wasn't quite sure how this one would go. I know it was only our 3rd date, but it seemed like we'd been together for much longer than that. Of course, when you wait 6 months between actual dates, I suppose you have time to grow close.

I'll be honest. I was nervous. Things had changed since the last time my girlfriends and I had gotten together. Alicia now spent ALL of her time in her jammies, An had changed her name, and I had been so busy that I had to get sick just to take time for this date.

We'd had trouble deciding on a meeting spot. We finally chose Leshy's, just so she wouldn't have to get out of bed to meet us. I'd spent 2 days packing, even though I was only going to be there for a few hours. An beat me there, of course, because all she'd thought to bring with her was a smile and a hair tie. Lesha insisted An put on SOMETHING before I got there, so by the time I arrived, she'd donned a pair of Leshy's jams and they were both curled up in bed, one on each side of a
life-sized Michael Rosenbaum poster.

An hopped up as soon as I walked in, saying how she'd only been warming the spot for me, and she didn't really like MR anyway. I told her it was ok, just as long as she didn't try to take him away from me. She said she preferred Chad Kroeger anyway, or was it just his voice? Either way, I knew she was no threat.

We decided to watch Spider-Man, since Lesha hadn't seen it before. When it was over, she insisted on watching it again, so An and I wandered off into the other room. We met up with Rolly, who gave us both a dirty look, and Riley, who was running circles in the room. I told An that I missed Lex and I wished I would have brought him with me. She just shook her head at me and reminded me about our "no boys allowed" rule. I tried to tell her how he'd recently been to the vet and was no longer a "real boy" but she told me it was all the same, and I would have to get over it. I got mad, threw Rolly at her, and sulked back into Lesha's bedroom.

Lesha had somehow seen the entire thing (probably her x-ray vision) and was not to happy with me. "Mess with me, NOT my pets!" she yelled at me. I told her it was unfair that Rolly got to be there anyway, what about the rule? She told me that An and I had picked the spot, and it wasn't Rolly's fault that he had nowhere else to go. Then she ran off to find Rolly and make sure he was ok.

I couldn't believe it. Here I was, supposed to be on a date with my girlfriends, and all we were doing was fighting. I decided to call Lex, but then realized that would be stupid because he couldn't answer the phone anyway (something about opposable thumbs?). I figured there was nothing else to do except cuddle up next to MR and wait for the girls to calm down.

I awoke a few hours later to find that my girlfriends had not returned to the bedroom. I decided it was time to go find them.

As I immerged from the room, I could hear voices on the tv. I glanced up to see words such as "POW!" and "BAM!" across the screen. Alicia had found a Batman marathon and was firmly planted in the middle of the floor, surrounded my her minions. Annick was in the room as well, but she was too occupied with her bottle of Orangina to pay attention to the show.

I waited until the show was over before I spoke up. "I think we should talk," I told my girlfriends. They agreed. We piled onto Lesha's bed (there would have been plenty of room, but she felt the need to bring along Patches, Thomas, Rolly, Riley AND Buddy, not to mention the Michael Rosenbaum poster that was still there) for our heart-to-heart. Suddenly Brea bursted in, insisting that since she'd been on a date with Annick (which I think SOMEONE forgot to inform me of. or maybe I just forgot.. whoops.) she should be involved too. We told her no, but she jumped on the bed anyway, making Alicia fall off the side. An and I figured she would have fallen off by herself sooner or later and just left her on the floor.

It was time. I decided to tell them about all the men in my life. "You know I've been busy with both of my jobs, but that's not the only reason I haven't been able to see you much lately. You already know about Lex.. but there's also James.. and Joss/Jocelyn (my drag queen car, apparently).. and THE FUZZ. Plus, there's MY Patches, who is a girl, but hangs out with all of my guys." The girls were appalled. "HOW COULD YOU?" yelled Alicia (from the floor). "After all we've been through? You're giving us up for MEN and a female CAT?"

"I didn't mean for it to happen this way!" I cried. "It was all innocent fun!"

"And look how it all turned out!" chimed An.

"And you have a fat head!" Brea threw in, even though it had nothing to do with anything.

"But did you really think this relationship was going anywhere? I mean, we all live so far apart! And we're so different! I don't think we're compatible enough for all of us to be together. Really," I insisted.

The room got quiet. My girlfriends and once sister were contemplating all that had been said. Finally, Lesha climbed back onto the bed. "I guess I understand," she said. The others agreed that although our dating had been fun, it was time for us to go our separate ways. I assured my girlfriends (and ex-sister) that I still loved them (well, my girlfriends, anyway), and I hoped this wouldn't ruin our friendships.

We decided we should have one last night together. I got out my Uno Elvis game for a few laughs, and we had a pareo tying contest. (Brea was the judge, since she didn't have one. she didn't mind.) By the time daylight came, we were all worn out, but knew it was time to go. An, Leshy and I embraced in one last group hug (brea wanted in, but she settled for rubbing our feet instead) and friendly kisses on the cheek.

I grabbed my bag of stuff and headed out the door. The girls ran to the window to wave goodbye to me. As I joined Joss in the driveway, I thought to myself that I was giving up the best girlfriends in the world. But then again, I knew we'd be together in the end.
