Review of DORA 1999

The DORA this year was spread over three evenings, the 5th-7th of March, and as well as the national final on the 7th, included, on the 5th, a national poll to find which was the country's favourite DORA winner.  Neka mi ne svane emerged as a clear winner, followed by Nek' te bude ljubav sva from Toni Cetinski, Don't ever cry, Nostalgija, Probudi me and finally Sveta ljubav with less than 900 votes. (Why?  Why?)

Then, on the 6th, we had Pjevajmo DORU, something which I don't think any other national final does - all 24 contestants sang a song from any of the previous DORAs.  The line-up's repeated below, as there are some rather improbable combinations.

• Teens sang Boginja, a ballad originally by Oliver Dragojevic in 1995.
• Kristina sang Jedini moj, originally from Maja Blagdan in 1993.  I hope she did it justice, but I doubt it...
• Alen Nizetic sang his own Ti, from 1997, again.
• Andy sang Divno je znati da netko te voli, which Srebrna Krila sang in 1996.  Some of the members of Andy are ex-Srebrna Krila, which goes some way towards explaining it.
• En Face sang Maja Blagdan's Za nas from 1997.
• Giuliano sang his own Sjaj u ocima otkriva te from 1996.
• Nikita sang the Divas' Sexy cool from 1996.
• Magazin sang Aha.  HRT's website says this was their own song in 1997, but it isn't - it's by Jelena (admittedly now their lead singer) from 1996.
• Sanja Lukanovic sang Još te volim kao nedaka from Stijene in 1998.
• Turbo-X sang Nek' te zagrli, by Toni Cetinski in 1993.
• Goran Karan sang Oliver Dragojevic's Lucija from 1997.
• Joy sang Daj, daj.  This is where the mind starts to boggle, but is understandable, as its singer Branimir Mihaljevic also wrote her song.
• Mandi sang Magazin's Opijum from 1997.
• Marina Tomaševic sang her own Mama Marina from 1994.
• Djani Stipanicev sang Tvoje ime kao me ruze, by Davor Radolfi in 1995.
• Branka Bliznec repeated her Našoj ljubavi from 1995, and didn't do any better this year.
• Zrinka sang Srce od zlata again, which she first gave us in 1995.
• Zorana Siljeg sang Tebi nema, originally by Gabi in 1994.
• Renata Sabljak sang Ivana Plechinger's Zora from 1997.
• Doris Dragovic sang Na svijetu sve from Magazin in 1997.
• Mladen Grdovic sang Zivot svoj which he originally sang in 1994.
• Minea repeated her own Good boy from 1995...
• and Petar Grašo closed off the event by repeating his Idi from 1997.

Perhaps thankfully, nobody tried their hand at murdering Sveta ljubav.
