Composer always at knowledge of all kind of experimentation and instruments, Ligeti has in his catalogue a group of works written for musical machines, and his already famous and explosive premiere in 1962 of the Poème Symphonique for 100 Metronomes of Pyramidal Shape (a work which must be understand, exclusively, from his purely experimental side), is remembered by the own author in a charming way on the record libretto. There is also the much more interesting arrangements for Barrel Organ, an small and transportable organ, and Player Pianos, which tried to go far away the rhytmic and speed limitations of the human performer. Among all them it stands out the original Hungarian Rock (1978), an stupendous classical exercise in ciaccona shape, the varied Musica Ricercata (1951-1953) on eleven movements, or the two versions of the well-known Continuum (1970), originally written for harpsichord.
