It was unavoidable. After the impeccable collaboration between Williams and Lucas with the two previous movies, the third part of Star Wars, must compulsorily have music by Williams. This one give again in the reveille with a superb score, for which he composed new themes, recapturing other from the previous deliveries. Between the new we must emphasize, by own right, Parade of the Ewoks and Luke and Leia; the first most dynamical and very agreed with the scenes in which appear the little toys which Lucas created for the occasion, while the second is the theme of love of the movie, with which Williams closes the impressive cycle of love themes of the trilogy: first with Leia´s Theme in Star Wars: A New Hope, second with Han Solo and the Princess in The Empire Strikes Back, and finally this Luke and Leia in Return Of the Jedi. These two new themes are those which open the second CD, and they are versions arranged by the own Williams to be interpreted in concert halls, so that's why they do not appear on this fashion in the movie, but they are not the only new, since the personages of Jabba the Hutt and the Emperor have their own themes, the first, very cold, on which prevails the wind instrumentation, and the second very sinister, to which Williams adds some gloomy choirs that emphasize a devilish and wicked character. With all these themes and those of the previous deliveries Williams, as if of a painter he was, is devoted to combine them as strokes, alternating them with action music producing a spectacular result (an example of this last we have it in cue 8 of the first CD, on which are combined the themes of the Imperial March, the Emperor, Luke, Yoda and Leia).
Of the trilogy this is the most interesting title concerning unpublished material. When it was launched the movie only was edited a single LP, as opposed to the double of their antecessors, with what most of the music was remained unpublished; afterwards it appeared the box of the trilogy, on which in spite of be edited many unpublished cues, it was remaining much music to be published yet, as thus demonstrates this edition that contains the integral score. There is also the music composed especially for this new cinematographic edition (is the only one of the three which has new music added), an alternative theme that was not used in the final version, and even an arrangement version of the cue The Forest Battle.
A brilliant end to an CD edition that the soundtrack fans were requesting since their debut in the cinematographic halls.
