Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? : Joel and Ethan Coen are working on Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? which George Clooney is attached to star. Clooney will play the leader of three escapees from a chain gang in the 1930s. The pic tracks their misadventures in Mississippi and other Southern locales as they try to elude a tracker.

The Man Who Cried : Robert De Niro is in negotiations to star in The Man Who Cried which Christina Ricci also attached to star. Sally Potter (The Tango Lesson) is writing and directing the pic which is a drama set in the legit world of German-occupied Paris before and during World War II. Click for the news about De Niro.

Scream 3 : Miramax's Dimension Films has staked out a Dec. 10 release date for Scream 3 which stars, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette. Wes Craven will helm from a screenplay written by Kevin Williamson.

Vertical Limit : Martin Campbell (The Mask of Zorro ) will direct Vertical Limit. Film is about mountain-climbing, which concerns a climber who swears off the sport after the accidental death of his father. But he is forced to scramble up the famous K2 mountain when his sister becomes trapped in a cave.

More Dogs Than Bones : Michael Browning will direct More Dogs Than Bones with a cast that includes Mercedes Ruehl, Louise Fletcher, Whoopi Goldberg , Joe Mantegna, Peter Coyote. The film is a crime caper in which a group of hapless young people from a rundown part of downtown L.A. are unwittingly caught up with a gang of professional mobsters. 

Play It to the Bone : Antonio Banderas and Woody Harrelson will star in Play It to the Bone. Ron Shelton (White Men Can't Jump) will direct the film which also stars Lolita Davidovich. It centers on two boxers who journey from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, where they attempt to resurrect their floundering careers.

Vatel : Uma Thurman and Tim Roth are in final negotiations to star opposite Gerard Depardieu in Vatel. The film takes place during 48 hours as legendary chef Vatel prepares a feast for King Louis XIV that will determine the success of a political event.

Art of War : Wesley Snipes has signed to star in Art of War. Director Stanley Tong (Mr. Magoo) is in preliminary talks to helm. In the film international forces threaten to bring down the United Nations, and the only man who can stop them is a person who does not officially exist.

The Mothman Prophecies : Richard Gere is in final negotiations to star The Mothman Prophecies. Film tells the story of a reporter (Gere) who leaves his paper after his wife dies to pursue a series of strange events in a small town and realizes they point to an alien visitation. Carl Franklin will direct.

Monkey Bone : Whoopi Goldberg is in negotiations to star opposite of Brendan Fraser in Monkey Bone. She will play the role of Death. Pic is about a neurotic cartoonist (Fraser) with a hit animated TV show who gets into a car crash and enters a coma. He must join forces with one of his creations, Monkey Bone, to outwit Death and escape Dark Town, a purgatory-like limbo between life and death. 

All the Pretty Horses : Penelope Cruz has been cast to star opposite Matt Damon in All the Pretty Horses.The film will be directed by Billy Bob Thornton. Cruz plays a Mexican girl from an upper-class family that discourages her romance with Damon’s character.

Charlie's Angels : Drew Barrymore is in final negotiations to star in and produce Charlie's Angels for Columbia Pictures. The comedy will be a film version of the 1976-81 Aaron Spelling television series about three gun-toting women working for a wealthy mystery man who runs a detective agency via speaker phone with his assistant Bosley. Frank Coraci (The Wedding Singer) is being courted to direct.

The Apartment : Director Joel Schumacher will make a remake of the award-winning French thriller L'Appartement. The film focuses on a young investment banker in search of a former lover he believes is in mortal danger.

The Whole Nine Yards : Bruce Willis will star and produce The Whole Nine Yards for director Jonathan Lynn . David Willis, Bruce’s brother, and Allan Kaufman are producing the $40 million crime comedy for Bruce’s Flying Heart Films banner. In the pic, mobster Jimmy “The Tulip” (Willis) moves into the suburbs under cover of the witness protection program. But when his neighbors learn that there is a price on Jimmy’s head, they are unwittingly pulled into the “glamorous” life of organized crime.

Hospitality Suite : Danny DeVito and Kevin Spacey have signed to star in Hospitality Suite. The film centers on three salesmen "two middle-aged and one rookie" who converge in the hospitality suite of a convention and reveal the pieces of their lives.

Picking Up the Pieces : Woody Allen is in preliminary negotiations to star in Picking Up the Pieces for director Alfonso Arau. The film is a dark comedy about a kosher butcher from New York who poses as an Arizona cowboy under a witness protection program. When he tries to cover up the murder of his wife, miracles suddenly begin to occur.

What We Do Is Secret : David Arquette (Dreaming With The Fishes, Scream 1-2) has signed to portray Darby Crash, lead singer of '70s punk rock band the Germs, in What We Do Is Secret. Rodger Grossman will direct.

Pony Rides : Bruce Beresford (Driving Miss Daisy, Tender Mercies) is in final negotiations to direct Matt Dillon in Pony Rides. The film is a drama based on the true story of John Carlen, a man who was trained to take over the family business of prostitution.

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas : Imagine Entertainment and Universal Studios has been set Thanksgiving 2000 for release of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas, in which Jim Carrey set to star. Ron Howard will direct the pic which tells the story of reclusive Grinch who devises a plan to ruin Christmas in the fantasy world of Who-Ville.

13 Days : Francis Ford Coppola is in negotiations to direct 13 Days which stars Kevin Costner in the lead.

Shadow of the Vampire : Nicolas Cage’s Saturn Films banner will make its producing debut on Shadow of the Vampire, in which John Malkovich is set to star. Elias Merhige (Begotten) will direct the pic.

National Treasure : Jon Turteltaub (Phenomenon) will direct and produce National Treasure. Pic is about a modern-day treasure hunt for a Revolutionary War secret stash of cash hidden by Jefferson, Washington and Franklin to help finance the war.
