How the Grinch Stole Christmas : Saturday Night Live cast member Molly Shannon has took the female lead alongside Jim Carrey in How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Most recently seen in Analyze This, Shannon will next be seen alongside Drew Barrymore in Never Been Kissed,. Director Ron Howard will begin the shooting on August 9th.

Mission To Mars : Tim Robbins is in negotiations to take the lead role in Disney's Mission To Mars. If signed, Robbins is expected to play "a gung-ho astronaut who, along with his astronaut wife, leads a rescue mission into outer space after a mission to Mars meets disaster." Brian de Palma will direct the movie which will have a May or June 2000 release.

X-Men Casting : A Canadian newspaper (Toronto Star) reported that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Angela Basset to be casted in Fox's X-Men. No confirmations have been made about this rumor by Schwarzenegger's and Basset's representetives

The Shrink is in : Courtney Cox and David Arquette, are set to star in independent film "The Shrink Is In" for director Richard Benjamin. The romantic comedy is the story of a woman (Cox) who assumes the identity of her psychiatrist and falls in love with a patient (Arquette). Shooting begins April 19 in Los Angeles.

Presence of Mind : Lauren Bacall and Harvey Keitel are to star writer-director Antonio Alloy's debut movie Presence of Mind. The movie which is an adaptation of Henry James' classic ghost story The Turn of the Screw begins shooting this week in Spain. 5 million budgeted film also stars Sadie Frost (Bram Stoker's Dracula), Ella Jones (Sliding Doors).

Me, Myself and Irene : 20th Century Fox is in negotiations with Jim Carrey to deal on filmmakers Peter and Bobby Farrelly's next comedy film Me, Myself and Irene. The film rich with physical gags and equipped with the Farrellys' now-signature dismissal of the high-brow, should serve as a further showcase of Carrey's comic largess. Carrey will play a Rhode Island state trooper with a split personality. When he fails to take his medication, each of his competing personalities falls in love with the same woman (Irene), and with his internal chemistry now in tumult, they declare war on each other. The film is expected for a May start.

A Soldier of the Great War : Edward Norton will star in A Soldier of the Great War. The film concerns a 70-something Italian professor who's an ex-war hero. Encountering a young illiterate factory worker on a lonely road, he recounts his WWI experiences, during which he confronted various lovers, madmen and Mafiosi.

The Courier : Brad Pitt is close to a deal to play in the thriller called The Courier. The film concerns a courier hired to make a drop to a man who is impossible to find.

Though the Sky Falls : Joan Allen has signed to play Irish journalist Veronica Guerin in Though the Sky Falls, the true story of who was gunned down after writing about mobsters in Ireland. John Mackenzie will direct. She plays an investigative reporter who shook up organized crime in Ireland through her aggressive reportage. She broke precedent when she began naming mobsters in her stories, even knocking on the doors of her targets to get comments on their misdeeds.

City Ballet : Nicholas Hytner (The Crucible) will direct City Ballet which is a drama about three would-be ballerinas and their struggles to succeed in one of the world's greatest ballet companies.

Play It to the Bone : Tom Sizemore (Saving Private Ryan, Heat) is in negotiations to join the cast of Play It to the Bone which includes Woody Harrelson, Antonio Banderas and Lolita Davidovich. He will play a big-time Las Vegas promoter in the film about two washed-up boxers who get a chance to fight in Las Vegas when there is a last-minute dropout.

The Oscar Winners : 71st Academy Awards winners announced today. Shakespeare in Love won 7 Oscars including Best Picture. Saving Private Ryan won 5 Oscars including Best Director.Life Is Beautiful won 3 Oscars. Roberto Benigni won the best actor oscar.Gwyneth Paltrow won Best Actress award. Box-Office : Forces of Nature becomes No. 1 movie at the weekend, with boxoffice of about $13.9 million. Analyze This drops to No. 2 after two weeks and grosses about $11.9 million. True Crime opened at No. 3 with an estimated $5.3 million.
