Rocky and Bullwinkle : Universal Pictures has green-lighted Rocky and Bullwinkle, based on Ward's classic cartoon series. Des McAnuff (Cousin Bette) is set to direct, with Robert De Niro in talks to play the part of Fearless Leader.

The Prophet's Game : Dennis Hopper will star in The Prophet's Game, a dark psychological thriller that has been promoted during the last year with an Internet game site based on the screenplay. The Prophet's Game is the story of a father (Hopper) who uncovers a deadly celebrity trivia game on the Internet while searching for his missing daughter. Irving Belateche will direct.

Man on the Moon: This week issue of Newsweek has released a pic of Jim Carrey from the set of Taxi.

Diplomatic Siege : Tom Berenger has joined the cast of Trimark Pictures’ Diplomatic Siege. Pic, which toplines Peter Weller and Daryl Hannah, begins shooting Saturday in Bucharest. In the suspense thriller, a career diplomat (Weller) and a consular expert (Hannah) attempt to thwart Serbian terrorists who take 37 people hostage in an American Embassy.

Light It Up : Fox 2000 is in negotiations with Usher and actors Forest Whitaker, Vanessa L. Williams and Rosario Dawson to star in Edmonds Entertainment's Light It Up. The film will be directed by Craig Bolotin (That Night). Light It Up concerns a group of students who take over a run-down high school and attempt to improve conditions.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas : Universal and Imagine Films are in negotiations to hire the writing team of Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price to pen their high-profile live-action feature How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey.

Chill Factor : Peter Firth, David Paymer and Hudson Leick had joined the pic about men who must transport a substance that’s as unstable as it is toxic. The film toplines Skeet Ulrich and Cuba Gooding Jr. in the Hugh Johnson-helmed pic.Chill follows the mission of two men transporting an extremely poisonous substance that will cause widespread contamination if it’s allowed to warm higher than 50 degrees.

Suspect Zero : Ben Affleck is in talks to rewrite CW Prods.' Suspect Zero at Universal. There is no commitment for Affleck to star in the production. Suspect Zero, a thriller to which director Christian Duguay (The Assignment) is attached.

Nurse Betty : Chris Rock, Renee Zellweger and Morgan Freeman are in talks to star for director Neil LaBute in Nurse Betty. Nurse Betty has a similarly cynical perspective. They’re mob hit men who think she has seen them doing a job, so they try to kill her.    

Superman Reborn : Dish hears a rewrite came in to WB brass and producer Jon Peters, which has gotten Nicholas Cage excited again. More important, studio brass is excited because the script can be made for less than $100 million, with a greater emphasis on characters. The Clark Kent who saved the day is a screenwriter named Dan Gilroy, who might establish a cottage industry for all those bloated event pictures that need trimmer budgets and sharper storylines. No word if Tim Burton will come back, but it looks likely that Cage will don those tights after all.
   
 The Wonderful World of Disney : The Wonderful World of Disney is a film and a starring vehicle for supermodel Tyra Banks . The studio has bought Honey Thunder Dunk, a Louie Maggiotto-scripted comedy that’s described as Tootsie set in the WNBA. A male ballplayer who doesn’t make the NBA because of his ballhogging propensities shaves down and joins the WNBA. He immediately becomes a star, as the only female center in the league who can dunk. But he’s got a problem. He’d like to make a pass bigtime for the team’s shooting guard, with whom he’s fallen in love. That role will be played by Banks, who thinks her teammate is a woman.   

The Story of Us : Film and TV actor/director Tim Matheson has joined the cast of comedy-drama The Story of Us. Castle Rock principal Rob Reiner is directing the film about an estranged couple, played by Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer, attempting to resolve their differences and preserve their 16-year marriage. Matheson plays Pfeiffer’s love interest during her separation from Willis.   

The Crow: Salvation : Miramax's genre label Dimension Films will reteam with Edward Pressman Film Corp. for The Crow: Salvation, the second big-screen sequel to the gothic urban chiller. No casting has been named for The Crow: Salvation. The new film will be directed by Bharat Nalluri, who helmed the thrillers Killing Time and Down Time. The script is by Chip Johannessen (Fox's Millennium) from an original story by Matt Greenberg.

Gun Shy : Liam Neeson will star with Sandra Bullock in Gun Shy, a black comedy. Oliver Platt is in talks to play the third lead. In the film, Neeson will play a world weary DEA agent who is looking forward to retirement, but must get through one final difficult case before he can. Eric Blakeney will direct.

Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace : Lucasfilm took to the Web to release the title of George Lucas’ upcoming Star Wars film: Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace. Last month, the company also announced the film’s May 21, 1999, release date on the site.

Carlo's Wake : Helen Slater, Theresa Saldana, Michael Chiklis and Juliet Landau have joined the cast of Carlo's Wake starring Martin Landau and Rita Moreno. Carlo's Wake is a comedy about the life, death and wake of an Italian-American patriarch (Landau). Michael Valerio directs.

Guy Gets Kid : Cole Sprouse, Jon Stewart, Leslie Mann, Josh Mostel and Rob Schneider have joined the cast of Guy Gets Kid. Pic, which stars Adam Sandler and Joey Lauren Adams, is about irresponsible law school graduate Sonny (Sandler), who is about to lose his girlfriend (Adams) because he is avoiding his adult responsibilities.
