Mission: Impossible 2 : Anthony Hopkins is set to star opposite Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible 2. In the film, Hopkins will play Cruise's boss. Ian McKellen had been in talks to take that role in the film which John Woo is now shooting in Australia. Ving Rhames, Thandie Newton and Dougray Scott also star in the sequel to Mission: Impossible.

The Patriot : Heath Ledger (10 Things I Hate About You) will star in The Patriot. He will play Gabriel, son of Mel Gibson’s character, a farmer who reluctantly takes up arms against the British when the fighting reaches his town. The two end up battling side by side in the quest for U.S. independence. The fil is helmed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, Godzilla).

Paranoia : Jeanne Tripplehorn will join John Duigan’s (Sirens, Molly)latest film, Paranoia. The film also stars Iain Glen (Silent Scream), Ewen Bremner (Trainspotting) and Kevin Whately (The English Patient) . The film is about a young fashion model, who, exhausted from her hectic work schedule, takes a weekend off in the country with her new boyfriend. However, the weekend is not as relaxing as she had hoped, when the boyfriend’s chums ignite a weekend of escalating paranoia.

Boesman and Lena : Danny Glover and Angela Bassett will co-star in Boesman and Lena which is the film version of Athol Fugard’s play. John Berr has adapted the play and will direct.

Moulin Rouge : Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman are set to star in Moulin Rouge. Baz Luhrmann (Romeo+Juliet). Moulin Rouge is a musical set in 1899. McGregor will star as a young poet who defies his father by moving to “the absinthe-soaked, amoral, bohemian” neighborhood of Montmartre in Paris. In Paris, the poet is swept into the Bohemian underworld and begins a passionate but ultimately doomed love affair with the star of a nightclub, and the most famous courtesan in Paris, played by Kidman. Pic is slated to go before the cameras at Fox Studios Australia in October and will shoot until February.

Skipped Parts : Jennifer Jason Leigh and Brad Renfro (Apt Pupil, Sleepers) are close to a deal to star in Skipped Parts. The film will be directed by Tamara Davis. Drew Barrymore will have a cameo appearance in the film. The film is the sexual coming of age story that focuses on a 14-year-old boy and his irresponsible mother who relocate to a small Wyoming town to escape the orbit of the woman’s domineering father.

Pollock : Amy Madigan, John Heard and Jeffrey Tambor have joined the cast of Pollock. The pic is an indie biopic of legendary abstract painter Jackson Pollock. Ed Harris will direct the film which Harris will star as Pollock and Marcia Gay Harden as his artist wife Lee Krasner.

Romeo Must Die : Warner Bros. will finance and distribute the action pic which cinematographer Andrzej Bartkowiak (Lethal Weapon 4) is helming. Joel Silver (The Matrix) will produce the film which Jet Li will star as a chop-socky Romeo who falls for an African American Juliet (Aaliyah) . The pair’s romance is inevitably frowned upon by the other members of their respective crime families.

Dancing in the Dark : Angelina Jolie (Gia) is in final talks to play a femme fatale in Dancing in the Dark. The film is about a wealthy tycoon who marries a woman who turns out to be a deceptive seductress. Michael Cristofer will direct from his own adaptation from Cornell Woolrich's suspense novel, Waltz into Darkness.

The Legend of Bagger Vance : Robert Redford will direct The Legend of Bagger Vance. He will also co-produce and star. The film is about a local golfer, WWI hero Rannulph Junah (Redford), who gets a chance to compete against golf greats Walter Hagen and Bobby Jones in a tournament in 1931, when racial discrimination prevails and golf is almost a religion. During the tournament, Junah is given both spiritual and golf guidance by a mysterious black caddy, Bagger Vance. Morgan Freeman is the top choice to play the role of Vance.

Mission: Impossible 2 : Brendan Gleeson (The General) will play in Mission: Impossible 2 opposite Tom Cruise. In the film, Gleeson will play an upper-class British industrialist a la Rupert Murdoch who is charming on the surface but the opposite underneath. Ian McKellen, Ving Rhames, Steve Zahn, Thandie Newton and Dougray Scott also star in the project, which will be directed by John Woo.

Taken : Steven Spielberg is set to produce a 20-hour miniseries with the channel about alien abductions called Taken for Sci-Fi Channel. Taken is a big story with multiple characters, protagonists and antagonists, and it'll span lots of decades sources said. The Sci-Fi Channel plans to air two-hour segments of Taken in the third quarter of 2000 on ten consecutive nights.

Honky! : David Arquette (Scream, Dreaming With The Fishes) has signed up to star in Honky!. He plays a clueless white entertainer who is unwittingly hired as the host of a Soul Train rip-off called Boogie Fever in order to derail the ratings and free two black promoters from their contractual obligations to the network.

1999 Mtv Movie Awards : 1999 Mtv Movie Awards nominations has been announced. Jim Carrey is nominated for Best Actor Award. The awards ceremony will air on MTV June 10. Click for the complete list of nominees.

Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas : Suzanne Krull (Go) will star in Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Krull will play opposite Jim Carrey as the Grinch.

The Invisible Circus : Cameron Diaz, Christopher Eccleston (Elizabeth) and Jordana Brewster (The Faculty) star in The Invisible Circus. The 1960s-set drama follows a teenager (Brewster) as she retraces the steps of her older sister (Diaz) and her boyfriend (Eccleston) through Europe, in order to find out more about her sister's death.. Adam Brooks (French Kiss, Practical Magic) will direct.

Tart : Anna Paquin is set to star in Tart. Melanie Griffith will also take a role in the film, which she is producing with her husband Antonia Banderas. Christina Wayne will direct the film. The film tells the story of a teenager (Paquin) at a private school for girls on New York's upper East Side who discovers, along with her rich girlfriends, the world of night clubs, sex and heavy drugs.

Black River : Dean Koontz forming an alliance to produce a series of two-hour movies for the Fox Network based on the novella Black River, a thriller he will turn into a novel. He will also turn the thrillers Winter Moon and Dark Rivers of the Heart into miniseries, and create a TV series based on his novel Twilight Eyes.

Simpatico : Fine Line Features has paid $3 million for domestic rights of Simpatico.The film is now in post production. The film stars Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges and Sharon Stone as habitues of the world of thoroughbred racing. Nolte and Bridges play best friends who hatch a plan with Nolte's girlfriend (Stone) to execute the ultimate score but the plan goes awry when Bridges and Stone run off together with their take. The trio is bound by a secret yet divided by a romantic betrayal even when Nolte returns 20 years later to settle the score.

28 Days : Marianne Jean-Baptiste (Secrets & Lies) will star opposite Sandra Bullock in 28 Days. The film is directed by Betty Thomas. The film is about the recovery of a big-city newspaper columnist (Bullock) who is forced to enter a rehab center after getting a ticket for driving under the influence.

"Limbo" Full Trailer (7.7 Mb, MOV) Cast : Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, David Strathairn, Kris Kristofferson. The film is the story of an Alaskan fisherman (Strathairn) who has been away from the sea for years because of a tragic accident. He falls in love with a travelling lounge singer (Mastrantonio). But her brother (Siemaszko) follows her to town and ....

Keanu Reeves : Reeves has agreed to co-star in Driven, the feature debut of video director Joe Charbanic which tells the story of an investigative team whose members, in pursuing a serial killer (Reeves), find themselves being hunted instead and he has been offered $15 million to star as Bobby Lee Swaggart, an Arkansas sniper who comes out of self-imposed isolation to stop an assassination, only to be implicated for the murder in the film Shooter. The movie was adapted from the 1993 novel Point of Impact by film critic Stephen Hunter.

Woody Allen's untitled project : Screenwriter Elaine May (Primary Colors, The Birdcage) will take her first screen acting role in the ensemble cast of Woody Allen's next project. Allen is writing and directing the untitled picture, in which he stars opposite Michael Rapaport, Tracey Ullman, Hugh Grant and Jon Lovitz.

Quills : Kate Winslet and Geoffrey Rush are near to deal to star in Quills, the story of the climactic days of the Marquis de Sade which director Philip Kaufman will direct. Joaquin Phoenix is also in preliminary talks with for a starring role. Rush is near a deal to play de Sade, who at the start of the tale is confined in an asylum, ostensibly for his pornographic writings. While wildly popular, they’re deemed indecent and prompt his incarceration.Winslet plays Madeleine, a maid who is de Sade’s contact with the world and who helps get his feisty scribblings to the populace. Phoenix is being wooed to play the role of an attractive young priest who runs the asylum and engages in a battle of wills with de Sade over the young girl.

Erin Brockovich : Aaron Eckhart (In the Company of Men) and Albert Finney are set to co-star with Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich. Stephen Soderbergh directs the pic which is about a twice-divorced college dropout (Roberts) with three young children, who becomes a legal secretary for a personal injury law firm and proves instrumental in winning one of the largest personal injury lawsuits ever. Eckhart will play a biker and Roberts’ love interest who lives next door and ends up taking care of her kids while she is righting the world’s wrongs. Finney will play a pseudo-mentor and senior attorney in Roberts’ firm, a small-time personal injury banner.

Wes Craven : DreamWorks Pictures has bought the film rights of The Fountain Society, the firstnovel Wes Craven.Craven will also direct and executive produce the movie. Craven is expected to begin shooting in the spring or summer of 2000.

Woody Allen : Hugh Grant and Jon Lovitz are reported to join for Woody Allen's next picture. The picture is untitled yet and expected to begin this summer in New York. Allen is also writing the screenplay and will co-star in the film.

The Whole Nine Yards : Natasha Henstridge will co-star with Bruce Willis, Matthew Perry and Rosanna Arquette in The Whole Nine Yards. Henstridge will play Willis' wife in the film. The movie is a black comedy about a hit man and his wife who move in next to a dentist. The director is Jonathan Lynn. 

Winona Ryder : Winona Ryder will play the lead in Roustabout. Chris Eyre (Smoke Signals) to direct the picture.The film is a coming of age story about a young woman who tries to find a way out the shadows of the big top, under which she has grown up since she was abandoned as a child.Rider will also co-produce the movie.

The Next Best Thing : Lynn Redgrave is in negotiations to star with Rupert Everett and Madonna in The Next Best Thing.It is the story of a single woman (Madonna) who convinces her best friend, a gay man (Everett), to father and raise her child.
