Shaft : John Leguizamo is closing to deal to join the cast of Shaft, a remake of the 1971 detective picture.John Singleton to direct the movie.Leguizamo will play the villain against Samuel L. Jackson.The movie will be shot in August in New York.

Sequel to Analyze This : Jeffrey Wells reports that Robert De Niro, Billy Crystal and director Harold Ramis will make a sequel to Analyze This. Screenwriter Peter Tolan, who shared story and screenwriter credits on the original, says that he, and not co-writer Ken Lonergan, will write the screenplay when and if the deal kicks in. According to Wells the plan is to shoot the Analyze This sequel later this year and hitting screens by the fall of 2000. He is told that Robert De Niro wants to direct a film about the CIA, from a script by Michael Schiffer (Crimson Tide). He also has plans to make a film in the not-too-distant future with longtime collaborator Martin Scorsese. And there's a piece in today's New York Times about De Niro and Miramax chief Harvey Weinstein's plans to build a $150 million film studio on the site of the old Brooklyn Navy Yard. He adss that he first heards about sequel plans on Monday, when a friend told him that actor Leo Rossi, who plays "Carlo" in Analyze This, had recently gotten a call from De Niro, who told him to keep himself available for a sequel to be shot later this year. All Rossi's agent Richard Sindell would say was, "I really have no idea what goes on with those phone calls." Picking Up the Pieces : David Schwimmer is in talks to star in Picking Up the Pieces. He will join Woody Allen, Sharon Stone and Kiefer Sutherland in the black comedy. Alfonso Arau directs the film that centers around a kosher butcher from New York, played by Allen, who decides to chop his wife (Stone) into pieces and then drive to Mexico with the remains. En route, a hand falls out in the small border town where Schwimmer is a priest. Once the severed hand is discovered, miracles ensue as the wayward holy man regains his faith. 

The Next Big Thing : Stacy Edwards has joined the cast of The Next Big Thing which stars Madonna, Rupert Everett and Benjamin Bratt. Picis about a straight woman and a gay man who have a child. Family problems ensue when the women falls in love with another man prompting the father to fight for custody. John Schlessinger will direct.

Disappearing Acts : Wesley Snipes is in negotiations to star in Disappearing Acts, for HBO according to Variety. The film is an adaptation of the Terry McMillan novel about a female musician who becomes involved with a soon-to-be-divorced construction worker.

Circus : Famke Janssen (Golden Eye, Deep Rising) will star in Circus. Rob Walker will direct the film which stars John Hannah in the lead with Eddie Izzard, Peter Stormare and Tiny Lister . Pic centers on con man Leo Garfield (Hannah) and his glamorous wife Lily (Janssen), who have masterminded an audacious scam. 

15 Minutes : Kelsey Grammer will star opposite Robert De Niro and Edward Burns in 15 Minutes. The film is directed by John Herzfeld. Grammer will play Robert Hawkins, a charming host and star of a top-rated tabloid show. Where the Heart Is : Natalie Portman (Leon) is in negotiations to star in Where the Heart Is. Pic focuses on 17-year-old Novalee, who finds love and stability after giving birth to her baby in a Midwestern Wal-Mart. Matt Williams will direct his first film his credits include television sitcoms as Roseanne and Home Improvement.

Myself and Irene : Anthony Anderson (Life) is in talks to play the supporting role of one of Jim Carrey's three black sons in Me, Myself and Irene. The film will be directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Click to Jim Carrey section for more info.

Any Given Sunday : The official site for the Oliver Stone football drama about an aging quarterback who is under pressure to play hurt (Dennis Quaid) and at the same time faces being replaced by an up-and-coming young player (Jamie Foxx) . The film stars , Al Pacino stars as the coach of the Miami Sharks. The film also stars Elizabeth Berkley, Edward Burns, Jim Caviezel, Cameron Diaz, Aaron Eckhart, Charlton Heston, Lauren Holly, LL Cool J, Matthew Modine and James Woods.
