City by the Sea : Al Pacino is waiting for a rewrite of the script about a real-life homicide cop whose father was a kidnapper and murderer. Pacino’s character is eventually confronted by the fact that his own son may be involved in a murderous kidnapping plot. The idea is taken from an article written by Mike McAlary from Esquire magazine in 1997. Michael Caton-Jones will direct the movie after Pacino signs on. Cary Woods and Vaughn will team again after Swingers. Gregory Mosher will direct the film which centers on a young telemarketer (Vaughn) who goes to work for a polished con man. When they plan to steal an elderly woman’s life savings, the telemarketer has second thoughts. The Nutty Professor 2 : Imagine Entertainment has hired Chris and Paul Weitz (Antz) to write The Nutty Professor 2. The new film stars Eddie Murphy again. Peter Segal (Tommy Boy) will direct the film which will be shoot early fall. Update : May 19th,1999 Waking Up in Reno : Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston are nearing to star for the comedy Waking Up in Reno. The film is about two white trash couples venturing westward from Arkansas to a monster truck rally. Assassination Tango : Robert Duvall's next directing will be the thriller Assassination Tango. In the movie a hitman moves to Argentina after completing a job and becomes enthralled with tango dancing. Duvall who plans to direct the picture in New York and Buenos Aires next year said he hoped to evoke the tango underworld in the picture. The Reader : Anthony Minghella is set to write and direct the screen adaptation of the war criminal bestseller The Reader. The movie is about a 15-year-old boy who has an affair with an older woman in postwar Germany. She disappears and the teenager expects never to see her again. When he does, she is a defendant in a Nazi war crimes trial. Mike Nichols is set to produce. Wild Wild West : Warner Bros. is pushing up the release date of Wild Wild West from Friday, July 2 to Wednesday, June 30. The movie stars Will Smith, Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh and Salma Hayek. Update : May 18th,1999 The Perfect Storm : George Clooney is near deal to star in The Perfect Storm. Wolfgang Petersen will direct the film which is the adaptation of Sebastian Junger’s book The Perfect Storm . Variety reports that Clooney came aboard the Warner Bros. picture shortly after reports of Nicolas Cage’s involvement fell through and also Mel Gibson expressed an interest in taking the role, but discussions fell apart after the studio would only pony up roughly half of his $20 million feein the screen. The Falconer : Forest Whitaker is attached to helm The Falconer. He last directed Hope Floats and starred in Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai. Falconer is a romantic fantasy about a love affair between a married Northern California woman and the love of her life, a lonely pilot (and falcon aficionado). The relationship is put to the test when the woman finds out she is dying. The Sixth Day : Arnold Schwarzenegger is in negotiations to star in The Sixth Day. Action-thriller is the story of a man who discovers a clone has replaced him. The budget is around $40M. No directors attached yet. The Cell : Jennifer Lopez will star in The Cell . The psychological thriller centers on a female scientist who goes into the mind of a comatose serial killer to learn what became of a kidnapped girl. This movie reminded me the thriller Unforgettable that was directed by John Dahl and stars Ray Liotta, Peter Coyote and Linda Fiorentino which has got alike story but better i think. My Little Assassin : Joe Mantegna is set to star in My Little Assassin. The pic based on a true story that tells the story of a 19-year-old American girl (Gabrielle Anwar), the daughter of a CIA agent (Jill Clayburgh), who falls in love with Fidel Castro (Joe Mantegna) during the early years of his reign over Cuba. The House of Mirth : Gillian Anderson is set to star in an adaptation of Edith Wharton's turn-of-the-century novel The House of Mirth. Supporting cast includes Dan Aykroyd, Eric Stoltz, Laura Linney, Anthony LaPaglia and Jodhi May. Anderson will play Lily Bart, a beautiful socialite in late 19th century New York whose world starts to crumble when she finds herself torn between her need to find a wealthy husband to secure her shaky social position and her desire to follow the course of true love. Terence Davies (Distant Voices, Still Lives,The Neon Bible) is directing the film which will be shoot this summer in Scotland and the south of France. "Trick" Full Trailer (6.1 Mb, MOV) Christian Campbell, John Paul Pitoc and Tori Spelling stars in the film which is the story of a night in the lives of two young gay men who try to find some place to make love. This romantic comedy was shown at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Update : May 17th,1999 One Night at McCool's : Michael Douglas will star in One Night at McCool's. This production is his first indie appearance. He will star opposite Liv Tyler in the dark comedy. Trixie : Nick Nolte and Emily Watson will star in Trixie. Robert Altman and James McClindon will produce writer-director Alan Rudolph's detective tale which follows a security guard (Watson) who takes an undercover job at a corrupt casino resort and becomes embroiled in a blackmail situation involving a promiscuous senator (Nolte). The Others : Nicole Kidman will play the lead in The Others which Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar directs.In the pic, Kidman will play a mother of two children who becomes isolated and caught up in what becomes a Gothic thriller. Box-Office : The Mummy made $25.1 million in its second week of release, the second was Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones thriller Entrapment with an estimated $8.7 million in its third week, third The Matrix which made $4.5 million. William Shakespeare's A Midsummer's Night Dream opens with $4.4 million and Jet Li's Black Mask with $4.2 million. Beautiful Joe : Sharon Stone is near a deal to star in Beautiful Joe which Stephen Metcalfe will direct the film which also stars Billy Connolly (Mrs. Brown). The film is the story of a luckless guy who plays it safe until he meets a single mom with a dangerous appetite for fast horses and fast living. He becomes bold enough to try to save her from the mob. My Real Name Is Lisa : Willem Dafoe and Armand Assante are in talks to star in My Real Name Is Lisa. John Leekly (Miami Vice) will direct the film. At Home With the Marquis de Sade : USA Films has bought Francine Du Plessix Gray’s biography At Home With the Marquis de Sade. While USA hasn’t yet attached a screenwriter to the film which is an account of the legendary sexual maverick, focusing on his relationship with his wife, Pelagie, and mother-in-law, Madame de Montreuil. Gus Van Sant has expressed interest in helming it according to Variety. The other project Quills will be directed by Philip Kaufman which is about the Marquis’ final days in a Paris mental institute. Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet are attached to star. Rose : Chen Kaige (The Emperor and the Assassin) will direct Rose from screenwriter Ted Tally's (Silence of the Lambs) screenplay from Martin Cruz Smith's best-selling novel . The film is about Jonathan Blair who is a brilliant detective sent to an English mining town to investigate the disappearance of a young minister. Blair falls in love with a woman who holds the key to the mystery. Say It Isn't So : Peter Berg (Shocker) will direct his second film Say It Isn't So. Peter and Bobby Farrelly will produce the pic which centers on a bachelor who meets the love of his life but mistakenly believes she is his sister. Berg made his feature directorial debut on Very Bad Things. 15 Minutes : Vera Farmiga (Return to Paradise) has joined the cast of 15 Minutes. John Herzfeld directs the film which began filming last week in New York that stars Edward Burns and Robert De Niro. Farmiga will play a young Czech immigrant who witnesses a murder but is afraid to report it for fear that she will expose her dark past. As police investigate the killing, she falls for one of the detectives (Burns). Bait : Jamie Foxx (The Truth About Cats and DogsThe Great White Hype) is set to star in action-comedy Bait which will be directed by Stephen Surjik (Wayne’s World II). Foxx will star as Alvin Snyder, a two-bit ex-con who is being used as bait by the Feds in order to lure a master thief who knows the whereabouts of a multi-million dollar cache of gold. Mars : Meg Ryan will not star in the Warner Bros./Village Roadshow scifier Mars which Joseph Fiennes is in negotiations. Me, Myself and Irene : Robert Forster has joined the cast of Jim Carrey's latest film Me, Myself and Irene which Peter and Bobby Farrelly will direct. Update : May 15th,1999 X-Men : Ian McKellen is in final negotiations to play the villain in X-Men. Shooting will begin July 19 in Toronto. The director is Bryan Singer. Although his deal is not yet closed, McKellen will play Magneto in the live-action feature based on the popular Marvel Comics characters who are born with mutated genes that impart superpower. The Tenth Victim : Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed to star in The Tenth Victim.The picture is a romantic sci-fi thriller to be directed by Lee Tamahori (Once Were Warriors).The film is a remake of a 1965 Italian film La Decima Vittima which starred Ursula Andress and Marcello Mastroianni. The male lead is not cast yet. Loving Lulu : Patrick Swayze and Melanie Griffith will star in the black comedy Loving Lulu. The movie is about a romantic schizophrenic(Griffith) who tracks down her college boyfriend (Swayze), a television writer who has begun to tire of his wife The film also stars Penelope Ann Miller and will begin shooting on May 24 in Los Angeles and San Francisco. The budget is around $20 million.
