X-Men : After Ian McKellen joined the cast of X-Men now Dougray Scott (Ever After) is about to join the cast of the film to play Wolverine. If he joines the cast, he will play play the lead role of the gruff superhero with the razorsharp claws who anchors the Marvel franchise. The film's directed by Bryan Singer. Metal God : Mark Wahlberg is in negotiations to star in Metal God as the lead singer of a bar band that replicates the tunes of a popular heavy-metal group. He gets to test his mettle when the real band dumps its poorly behaved lead singer and taps the soundalike to replace him.The heavy-metal fantasy will be produced under George Clooney and Robert Lawrence's Maysville banner. The film story taken from a New York Times article about an actual office supply salesman named Ripper Owens who played in a cover band at night and was plucked from obscurity to replace Rob Halford as vocalist for heavy-metal band Judas Priest. Bettie Page : Martin Scorsese is in talksto direct Liv Tyler in a biopic of Bettie Page. Page became an underground cult figure and precursor to such vamping femmes as Madonna because of her willingness to pose nude and in kinky pictorials that included bondage, whips and leather. Juneteenth : Quincy Jones and actor Morgan Freeman attached to produce a film based on the unfinished novel of Ralph Ellison's Juneteenth which is the follow-up to his classic novel Invisible Man. David Mamet is in talks to adapt and direct the pic that Freeman is also lined up to star. The film centers on Bliss who is the son of a black man and white woman. When his father is lynched by a white mob, his mother gives Bliss to his father’s brother, the Rev. Alonzo Hickman, to raise inside the Baptist church. Many years later, when a woman claiming to be his mother surfaces during a Juneteenth celebration of slave emancipation, Bliss transforms into a hate-filled politician named Sunraider, who uses race-baiting rants to win a seat in the U.S. Senate. Freeman will play the big-hearted Rev. Hickman. Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace : Over the weekend, a copy of The Phantom Menace was stolen from the State Theater in Menomonie, Wis., according to the Associated Press. "When the manager came in to thread up the movie on Saturday there was nothing on the platter the movie was gone," theater owner Nick LeGros told a local television station. Apparently, the culprits took off with the 40 pounds worth of footage after the Friday showing, which ended just before midnight. "In the 23 years I've been doing this, this is the first time I've had a film stolen," LeGros says. In addition to local police, the FBI and the U.S. attorney's office have been brought in, due to possible federal changes such as theft of interstate commerce. But there are no suspects at this time. Twentieth Century Fox officials worry that the stolen print will be used to create high-quality bootleg videos. The AP reports the print is worth $60,000. The Last Producer : Rod Steiger will star in The Last Producer which will be directed by Burt Reynolds. He joined the cast which includes Burt Reynolds Lauren Holly and Charles Durning. The film is about a Tinseltown producer (Reynolds) in the midst of his celluloid swansong. Steiger portrays a cop that helps Reynolds bring the project to the big screen. To Err Is Human : New Line Cinema take the remake rights for the 1996 German film To Err Is Human for Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films and Industry Entertainment. Pic tells the story of a happily married man who learns that he is infertile and therefore could not have possibly fathered his children. He decides to invite his closest friends to a reunion to determine which of them is the true father. Stiller will produce the film which he may star and direct. Walter Matthau : Actor Walter Matthau has been admitted to a local hospital with pneumonia. The 78-year-old screen star was admitted about 10 days ago after visiting a doctor to complain that he was feeling ill and had developed a bad cough, Matthau's son Charlie Matthau said. But his son said he is on the road to recovery. Update : May 25th,1999 The Secret Life of Walter Mitty : New Line has made a deal for Chuck Russell to rewrite The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Russell will also direct the movie which Jim Carrey attached to star one year ago. The two worked also in Mask. Carrey will play a timid character who, in daydreams, becomes a brave hero. Nicolas Cage is attached to star in the movie which is about corporate hatchet-man who rediscovers his humanity when he falls in love with a schoolteacher. Cage is also the executive producer. I Went to Date School : Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz which starred together in There's Something About Mary are in talks to reunite in a romantic comedy named I Went to Date School. The picture is about a New York consulting service that sets up clients on a simulated meeting and then critiques their dating skills. Greg Mottola (The Daytrippers) has been mentioned as a director. Animal Factory : Willem Dafoe is in negotiations to star in Animal Factory which Steve Buscemi will direct. It is the second directional experince for Buscemi. If signed Dafoe will play a veteran convict who shows a prison newcomer how to survive. R XMAS : Actor/director Forest Whitaker is joining Annabella Sciorra and John Leguizamo to star in R XMAS. No plot is available yet. Cult director Abel Ferrara will direct the movie. Forest Whitaker is also in talks to join John Travolta in the movie named Battlefield Earth (search for more info about this movie). 72nd Academy Awards : The 72nd annual Academy Awards presentation will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Shrine Auditorium.
