What Lies Beneath : Michelle Pfeiffer is set to star alongside Harrison Ford in What Lies Beneath, a supernatural thriller to be directed by Robert Zemeckis. The pairing is a first for Pfeiffer and Ford, and marks the first time the actress has worked with Zemeckis. The project, which has been shrouded in secrecy, is described as a ghost story.

13 Days : Writer-director Phil Alden Robinson is in negotiations to direct Kevin Costner in 13 Days. 13 Days tells the true story of the showdown between the Kennedy Administration and the Soviets during the two-week Cuban missile crisis in 1962.

Memoirs of a Geisha : Steven Spielberg and Columbia Pictures have pushed back the start date for Memoirs of a Geisha from January to sometime in April. No reasons were provided by the studio or the helmer.

Dr. Dolittle Sequel : Eddie Murphy has agreed to shoot a sequel to Dr. Dolittle. There's no word on Murphy's payday, but Betty Thomas, who helmed the original, is out, and a new director is being sought for the Fox flick, which grossed an eye-popping $240 million worldwide. No writer is yet attached and no cast decisions have been announced, but let's hope the producers bring back Chris Rock's guinea pig and Garry Shandling's neurotic bird.

The Runaway Bride : Julia Roberts is set to receive $17 million to reunite with Richard Gere in Paramount's The Runaway Bride, reports Daily Variety.

Sundowning : Lauren Bacall (The Mirror Has Two Faces) will co-star opposite Kirk Douglas and Dan Aykroyd in Sundowning, the story of a one-time prizefighter who is drawn on a mission by his son and grandson to seek 13 mysterious diamonds.

The Beach : French actors Virginie Ledoyen and Guillaume Canet are in talks to star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Danny Boyle’s . Ledoyen and Canet are in line to play the young French backpackers, Francoise and Etienne, who become involved in a romantic triangle with DiCaprio’s character when they set out together to track down rumors of a perfect beach on a remote island in Thailand.

Pinocchio : Director Francis Ford Coppola received a mixed review from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge Wednesday in his suit against Warner Bros. for interfering with his efforts to make Pinocchio at Columbia Pictures. Ruling on motions filed by Warner Bros., Judge Madeleine Flier threw out the staggering $60 million in punitive damages jurors awarded Coppola in July. However, she affirmed the $20 million in compensatory damages that the jury awarded Coppola and longtime producing partner Fred Fuchs. Both sides said they intend to appeal the rulings.

Scream 3 : Wes Craven has teamed with producing partner Marianne Maddalena to sign an exclusive four-year deal with Miramax Films and its Dimension Films genre label. Under the deal, which extends a previous three-year pact with the company, Craven will direct Scream 3 for Dimension and two other films for Miramax or Dimension. In addition, Craven and Maddalena will executive produce four genre features for Dimension under the Wes Craven Presents banner. Craven is now preparing to shoot Miramax drama 50 Violins, which stars Meryl Streep as a musician who teaches East Harlem children to play the violin and prepare for a concert in Carnegie Hall.

Dirty White Boys : John Frankenheimer is in talks to direct 20th Century Fox's Dirty White Boys, sources said. While there is no deal yet and Dirty White Boys is not the only project Frankenheimer is considering, sources indicated that the Fox project is the most likely for the veteran helmer. Dirty White Boys is a tense, gritty tale about an Oklahoma Highway patrolman faced with tracking down two vicious escaped convicts who are brothers.

Simpatico : Nick Nolte, Jeff Bridges and Sharon Stone are in advanced talks to star in a movie version of Sam Shephard play Simpatico, to be directed by first-timer Matthew Warchus. The film tells the story of three former friends, one of whom seeks vengeance against another while reconciling with the third, the love of his life. Shooting will get under way at the beginning of November in Kentucky and Los Angeles.

Soldier : The Official Site of Kurt Russell starrer has been opened.

Memoirs of a Geisha : Hong Kong superstar Maggie Cheung has been set to join the cast of Columbia Pictures and Steven Spielberg's Memoirs of a Geisha, the film version of Arthur Golden's best-selling novel. Cheung has appeared in more than 75 Hong Kong films and recently starred opposite Jeremy Irons in Wayne Wang's The Chinese Box. She plays the key role of Mameha, the mentor of a 9-year-old girl sold into slavery in a Kyoto geisha house who grows into a star geisha under Mameha's tutelage in the period leading up to World War II.

End of Days : Marcus Nispel will no longer direct End of Days, the $100 million action thriller starring Arnold Schwarzenegger that is slated to go before cameras in November. Sources say Beacon Pictures is still aiming to keep the shoot on schedule; the producers are hoping to announce a new director within a week.

Anna and the King : Jodie Foster is in talks to co-star with Chow Yun-Fat in Fox 2000's Anna and the King, sources confirmed this weekend. It is expected she will earn in the neighborhood of $15 million for the film, which starts shooting in mid-January. Foster would take the role of Anna Leonowens, the real-life governess charged with bringing up the royal children in the court of Siam, now known as Thailand

The Third Miracle : Ed Harris and Anne Heche will star in the drama The Third Miracle. Agnieszka Holland is directing the pic, which is an adaptation of the novel by Ricshard Vetere. In the film, the Vatican sends a priest to verify some miracles, perpetrated by a woman who has been nominated for sainthood. During his investigation, the priest, who is experiencing a crisis of faith, re-discovers his own purpose in life.

The Man Who Came to Dinner : Danny DeVito is in negotiations to direct and play a supporting role in DreamWorks’ remake of the comedy The Man Who Came to Dinner. Man is a satirical tale about a bombastic talkshow host who returns to his Midwestern alma mater in order to accept an award, only to wreak havoc on the lives of the unfortunate, wealthy family with whom he is staying after he is forced to recuperate from an injury.

An untitled romantic comedy : Mark Levin and Jennifer Flackett have lured Hugh Grant to star in an untitled romantic comedy for Working Title Films. Levin and Flackett, who penned the summer's Frances McDormand-topped kids comedy Madeline, will team to make their feature directorial debut on the film. Grant will play a journeyman tennis player ranked 157th in the world who reaches the finals at Wimbledon in the last tournament of his career

American Psycho : Christian Bale, who was left at the altar this spring on American Psycho for Lions Gate Films, has suddenly emerged again as the front-runner to play the yuppie serial killer. Bale resurfaces after six months of Lions Gate discussions with a number of high-profile thesps, including Leonardo Di Caprio, Ewan MacGregor and Edward Norton. Bale’s casting is contingent on supporting actors that Lions Gate will try to sign. Offers are out to Drew Barrymore and Liv Tyler to take the female leads. Jean Reno has been mooted to play a detective who chases down the serial killer.

Any Given Sunday : Jamie Foxx is in talks to star in Oliver Stone and Warner Bros.' Any Given Sunday. Foxx would replace Sean "Puffy" Combs, who has exited the project. The film is expected to start shooting early next year. It tells the story of an aging quarterback who is under pressure to play hurt and at the same time faces being replaced by an up-and-coming young player. The film stars Dennis Quaid, Al Pacino and Cameron Diaz.

Mick Jagger : He is working on two projects that bridge the worlds of music and movies. One could lead to a comedy Jagger would star in at Paramount and the other is poised to become a Disney film directed by Martin Scorsese sources said. Paramount just made a deal with Jagged for Swap, a role-reversal comedy based on a story written by Jagger about the disparity between the lives of rock stars and the roadies who transport their equipment and prep the stage. The other music project in which Jagger is heavily involved is an untitled picture that spans the rock ’n’ roll business over 30 years and is based on his own experiences. He’s writing it with Scorsese and Rich Cohen. The project is set up at Disney, and Scorsese has integrated classic songs by the Stones and other bands into many of his movies, wants to direct it.   

Black and White : Claudia Schiffer will join Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr., Elijah Wood and Gaby Hoffman in Black and White, from director James Toback. Pic is about a group of white high school teens and their excursions into the lives of Harlem’s black hip-hop crowd.
