Star Wars : George Lucas says that once he completes his long-awaited Star Wars prequel trilogy, he's going to call it quits for the franchise. "That's not really part of the plan at this point," Lucas tells the new issue of Vanity Fair. "When you see it in six parts, you'll understand. It really ends at part 6." Lucas continues, "I never had a story for the sequels, for the later ones. And also, I'll be to a point at my age where to do another trilogy would take 10 years." Star Wars: Episode One—The Phantom Menace opens in the U.S. on May 21, with parts 2 and 3 expected to be released in 2002 and 2005.

Move : Neve Campbell will use her classical ballet training when she produces and stars in Move, a dance project being developed for her at Warner Bros. Campbell began her training in classical ballet at the prestigious National Ballet School of Canada when she was 9.

Sean Penn : Sean Penn says that he wants to quit acting tells the New York Times Magazine, "I'm talking about a whole career of feeling that the movies I cared most about, movies like At Close Range and She's So Lovely, were just not seen. So I would rather write and direct." He says that once he has completed work on Woody Allen's next film, in which he plays a '30s jazz musician, he'll appear only behind the camera.

Bringing Out the Dead : Here is a picture from the latest Martin Scorsese pic Bringing Out the Dead which stars Nicolas Cage, Patricia Arquette, John Goodman, Ving Rhames and Tom Sizemore shooting in N.Y.The film is about Frank Pierce (Nicolas Cage), rushing from emergency to emergency as a paramedic in the Hell's Kitchen area of New York City. He's become burned out and haunted by visions of the people he's tried to save. Frank sees the ghosts of those he failed to save around every turn. He has tried everything he can to get fired, calling in sick, delaying taking calls where he might have to face one more victim he couldn't help, yet cannot quit the job on his own.

Minory Report : Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise will team in August to shoot Minority Report which is described as a Blade Runner-ish sci-fier script by Jon Cohen Phillip K. Dick's short story. The news which i have read from Mr.Showbiz is below written by Jeffrey Wells.

-------I was amazed when I read it. It is seriously lame. I'm sure Spielberg will be asking for all kinds of punch-ups before it goes before the cameras. I know how scripts can be transformed (or at least made serviceable) by first-rate writers. But this one needs what no rewriter can provide—a stake in the heart.

Minority Report is certainly imaginative. Cruise gets to play a good-guy cop with a conscience. It has a good number of action sequences and lots of visually nifty futuristic touches—spider-like probes that perform instant autopsies, transplanted eyeballs, and such—but it is basically second-rate. It reads like something New Line might've made in the mid-'80s with James Remar. I'm not saying it won't be commercial. I'm saying that the premise is stupid-o.

Set in the Washington, D.C., area in the year 2040, Minority Report is about a Pleasantville-like Orwellian society (everyone's into aping '50s clothes, neighborhoods, lifestyles) with a "Precrime" law agency that arrests would-be killers before they've had a chance to strike. (Cruise will play Paul Anderson, the Precrime chief who feels queasy abut the societal effects of this system.) The perps are identified by a trio of "precogs"—a sister and two brothers with unique precognitive powers.

Kept (imprisoned, really) by the state in a sealed-off, lab-like environment, the precogs are somehow able to pick up on each and every murderous impulse in the country. No other precogs anywhere—just these three, covering the entire U.S. of A. The result, incredibly, is no one ever gets iced, anywhere. (There are no car accidents either—the cars drive themselves without incident.)

But the whole idea just seems silly. Are the precogs restricting themselves to the U.S., or are they picking up signals from would-be murderers in Canada and Mexico? What about domestic violence? Why don't they pick up on that before it happens? Why not bank robberies? The precog thing raises all kinds of questions, almost none of which are answered by the script.-----

American Beauty : Peter Gallagher (While You Were Sleeping) has joined the cast of American Beauty. Peter will star alongside Kevin Spacey, Annette Bening and Thora Birch in the dark comedy directed by Sam Mendes.

The Betty Schimmel Story : Kenneth Branagh has signed on to direct and star in DreamWorks’ drama The Betty Schimmel Story. The pic is based on the true story of a 1930s Eastern European woman who promised to marry her childhood sweetheart. Separated from him by World War II, and believing he died in the Holocaust, she went on to marry another man. Years later the pair were briefly reunited after Schimmel learned that he was alive — and that her husband had long been hiding the truth from her.

Gladiators : Connie Nielsen (Rushmore) has landed the female lead in Gladiators opposite Russell Crowe. Directed by Ridley Scott, Gladiators is the story of warriors who battle to protect their empire in ancient Rome. Djimon Hounsou will also star in the film, which begins shooting in Europe in February.

Girl, Interrupted : Vanessa Redgrave has signed on Girl, Interrupted. She joined cast members Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie and Brittany Murphy. She will play a psychiatrist in the film directed by James Mangold (Copland). 

The Boiler Room : Vin Diesel is in final negotiations to star opposite Giovanni Ribisi, Nia Long and Ben Affleck in The Boiler Room. The story follows a college dropout (Ribisi) who is innocently seduced into a world of greed and corruption when he takes a job as a stockbroker making cold calls at a "boiler room" stock house. Diesel plays Chris, a boiler room broker and resident "good guy" amid the greed.
