The Cheshire Cat's Curiosities

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn't matter which way you go," said the Cat.

Well, welcome to my mad world of curiosities. Full of Disneyland facts and curiosities!

Clap on, clap off...

When the '30s themed lights strung above throughout the queue of the Indiana Jones Adventure are solid lit and no longer dim the adventure is "101", "down" or experiencing a delay while troop transports are switched out.

Bear Country, Critter Country, Let's call the whole thing off

Until 1989, Critter Country was called Bear Country. It was changed with the opening of Splash Mountain.

The voice of Brer Bear in Splash Mt. is the same person who voiced him in the 1946 film, Song of the South.

One of the singing voices in the old Jamboree show was Thurl Ravenscroft, the lead singing voice in the Haunted Mansion.

Disneyland recycles!

If you are old enough to remember the attraction America Sings then you'll recognize the animals that follow you on your way to the Briar Patch on Splash Mountain. Yep, they are one in the same! Still singing their river songs.

Tickets, please!

Can you imagine having to carry around tickets just to go into the Haunted Mansion? Well, in the wee beginnings of Disneyland, there were only a few rides and attractions and to get into them you had to hand over a ticket. Imagine that.

Did we take a wrong turn at the 100 Acre Wood?

It is said that there are Eeyore signs hidden inside the Indiana Jones Adventure queue. Supposedly, the Indiana Jones Adventure was built on part of the old Eeyore parking lot site. So what you should look for is a parking sign similar to the ones they still have in the parking lot. While waiting in line in the Film Room, try looking up to find it. You'll probably need a flashlight.

Cats Go Tribal

The Lion King takes Broadway!

Ending months of anticipation, it’s official. The Lion King will debut on Broadway this October. In what promises to be one of the most creative endeavors in Broadway history, the Disney Company will leverage it’s newly renovated New Amsterdam Theatre to stage the production. All of the original music will be used, in addition to new songs from Elton John and Tim Rice specifically for the production. Tickets go on sale June 22, 1997 and can be ordered through TicketMaster.

The question is: exactly what will this look like? I keep getting the picture of people in Cats outfits prancing around the stage, but to an African tribal beat.

Going up? Going down?

Ever wonder if you are descending or ascending in the first room of the Haunted Mansion? Well, according to quite a few people at alt.disney.secrets agree that it does both. Depending on which Haunted Mansion you're in!! If you are at Walt Disney World, Florida, the ceiling rises. If you are at Disneyland, California, the floor drops. Here you are in an elevator (I'm not sure about WDW).

What's the password?

Yes, you've heard right. There is a secret club in Disneyland. Well, actually, it's gradually becoming a not-so-secret club called Club 33.
It is located at New Orleans Square, adjacent to the Blue Bayou Restaurant. Walt Disney created it as a place where he could entertain visiting dignitaries and others in a quiet, serene atmosphere where superb cuisine and distinctive decor would complement one another.

You're not from here, are you?

If you ever notice, you will never (or at least shouldn't) see a cast member from Fantasyland in Tomorrowland. At least not that you know of. In order to keep the atmosphere of the certain lands, Disney has it where cast members are not allowed into other lands. It is rumored that there are underground tunnels so members can walk through the park without actually going through it. The only people who can go from one land to another are the custodial members. I have seen an exception though during the final season of the Main Street Electrical Parade, where I saw someone in a Star Tours outfit. I assume it was for the high demand of crowd control during this time (either that or I just never noticed it before).
