The Mummy Returns
An incredible sequel to the first film, "The Mummy Returns" delivers a rich mix of
action, adventure, acting and effects. Unfortunately though, a movie relying heavily on
effects and showcasing some top end of the scale quality, at the same time, it manages to
squeak in its fair share of the shoddy. (For a few examples checkout the extremely fuzzy lips
when the computer-generated mummy gets smooching, and when the giant log is blown in two, yet
severs in a nice straight cut. These shots however hold up not too bad on the video screen
versus the much larger theatre screen.)
Returning from the first film, an amazing cast including Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz,
John Hannah, Arnold Vosloo, Oded Fehr and Patricia Velasquez are joined by the young
Freddie Boath and wrestling superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, for one spectacular filmatic
experience not to be missed.
Following 10 years after the first story, Rick O'Connell (Fraser) and Evelyn (Weisz) now
married, have a son and live a somewhat less action-packed lifestyle. However, when their
son (Boath) after playing with an ancient relic becomes the key to raising the Scorpion King
(The Rock), he is kidnaped by those wishing to rule the world. Once again, action and
adventure ensuing, Rick, Evelyn, her brother Jonathan (Hannah) and old friend Ardeth Bay
(Fehr) race across the desert to save the young boy and the world.
