Oh, Miss Calendar, we hardly knew ye! As many of you know, Miss Calendar is dead. On Tuesday, February 25, 1998, Miss Jenny Calendar was attacked by an angry Angelus. She ran; he pursued her, and he caught up with her on the third floor of Sunnydale High School. There he snapped her neck, killing her instantly.

But, for now, let us not dwell on the fact of her death; rather the events of her life.

We first met our beloved computer-science teacher on April 28, 1997 while watching the episode titled "I, Robot; You, Jane". We watched as she helped the Watcher protect his Slayer even though she had virtually no idea what she was doing. By the end of the episode we had fallen for the technopagen, and had even seen the beginings of her relationship with Giles.

After that episode, we couldn't wait for the next one where we would once again get to see the beautiful Miss Calendar who we adored. The wait wasn't long. Her next appearance was in the last season one episode titled "Prophecy Girl". In this episode the talented computer wizard learned of Buffy's sacred rite ("The part that gets me is where Buffy is the Vampire Slayer. She's so little!") and helped to prevent her death. This was also the episode in which she was introduced to Angel.

We all waited with vast eagerness for season two to begin. Throughout the summer months, thoughts on whether or not Miss Calendar would return to the show buzzed through the air. There was even an internet page erected for the demand of her return. The
Buffy writers pulled through.

She was back in episode one, season two-"When She Was Bad". Though not a very active role, we were frightened when we observed her unconscience in the hands of vampires and hung upside-down in preparation for a sacrifice to raise the truely dead Master vamp. Thankfully our hero, the Slayer, Buffy, pulled through and saved the day; rescuing Miss Calendar from harms way. Still she was not the least bit afraid to become a Slayerette. She could help Buffy, and besides, it was the best way to spend time with Giles right now. This changed greatly in her next episode.

Her next appearance was brief but led us to believe that Jenny and Giles had a chance for romance. The episode was called "Some Assembly Required", and during this episode they went on their first date. Although it was only a football game, and Willow and Xander were there, they had gone somewhere together outside of school and were happy. And so we waited for confirmation that this was true.

She appeared again in the next episode "School Hard". This time it was more business as she help save Buffy's mother from the vampire gang that had attacked the school during parent-teacher night. Of course when it was all over, despite all the danger she had been in, she still took Giles' arm as they left the building. And so we waited for confirmation that they were, for lack of better word, an item.

Halloween-an episode every Calendar fan will remember. It was during this episode that the truth was finally confirmed. Though we'd known it for sometime, in this episode we were explicitly told that Giles and Jenny were an official couple, and they sealed it with a kiss. "Did anyone ever tell you that you're kind of a sexy fuddy duddy." and "I just love to make you squirm.", these two quotes were some of the sweetest and summed up her feelings for Giles. Love was in the air in Sunnydale.

And then it happened. All of a sudden. They were perfectly happy with each other and then a sin from his past came back to haunt him and Jenny. Yes, I'm talking about "The Dark Age". An episode that changed Jenny and Giles relationship. Being possesed by the demon he rose and nearly being killed by it, Jenny decided that she needed time alone. Away from the horrors that those involved with anyone associated with Buffy were subject to. And so the estrangement began. It wasn't more than two episodes later that she resurfaced; a length of time that seemed like forever to Giles and Jenny relationshipers. During this episode she made amends with Giles (after nearly killing him with the crossbow while trying to him the vampire that was attacking him). In the last scene we see Giles and Jenny together, kissing ("Okay. That's it. I give up. Do I have sound an airhorn every time I walk into a room?" ~Buffy), confirming the fact that they were officially back together again. But it didn't last for long. The two part special
Buffy (episodes "Surprise" and "Innocence"), that marked its move to Tuesday nights, again changed their relationship for the worse. A mysterious figure appears who knows Jenny. He warns her to separate Angel and Buffy, as it is her duty to fulfill her duty and make sure Angel is never happy. We find out that she is part of the Gypsy group that gave Angel his soul back and she is to make sure he never recieves any happiness. However, Jenny doesn't heed his warnings and, as it turns out, a little bit of loving from Buffy is all that it takes to break the spell. Angel is reformed back to Angelus, the vampire without a soul. Buffy finds out that Miss Calendar knew about Angel and

when she confronts her about it, Giles is seriously upset that Jenny would ever keep a secret of this nature from him. From this point on, Giles loves Jenny from a far, but cannot tell her about his feelings because he feels that he would be betraying Buffy (who hates Miss Calendar for not telling her about Angel's condition).

In all of these episodes our lovely Miss Calendar plays fairly serious roles; helping to save the world, getting possesed by an evil demon, and trying to reconcile with Giles and herself. In the next episode she appeared in, she took a change for an almost comical part. The episode is "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered". An episode where Xander makes Amy ("The Witch") cast a spell that makes Cordelia fall madly in love with him. The plan backfires and now everyone wants Xander-including Miss Calendar (much to Giles' dislike). "Maybe I need to talk to Xander alone." She says at one point. It was refreshing to see Jenny as a slave to something other than evil or Giles' charms. Although it was unclear how her relationship with Giles would change after this episode (he was clearly desturbed when she drooled over Xander), it was nice to see her again.

This brings us to the present. The episode titled "Passion" which aired on February 28, 1998, marked Miss Calendar's final appearance on
Buffy the Vampire Slayer In this episode she trys to reconcile with Giles and Buffy by attempting to bring back Angel's soul. She searches for a spell with which to do this and finally she finds it. She then collects all the nessasary equipment and while heading back to the school she runs into Buffy. ("I know you've been real sorry about what happended and I just wanted to tell you .... to keep it up"). Buffy tell Miss Calender that Giles misses her but not to think that just because she's dating the Watcher that she and Buffy were okay. Jenny accepts this and procedes to her lab to start translating the spell. Later that night Giles comes in to return the book she lent him to reverse the spell that allowed Angel to enter houses. While there Jenny tells him that Buffy said he missed her. He agrees and she promises to go to his house to see him after she is done with what she is doing. He leaves and procedes to Buffy's house to see how the ritual went. Jenny meanwhile, has just translated the entire spell. She prints out one copy and saves it to a floppy disk and then she sees Angelus. He comes to her desk and destroys her computer and the printed copy of the spell. Her disk is undiscovered when she runs from the room. He follows her and catches up with her on the third floor of the school where he breaks her neck. The rest of the story is important, but is too sad to tell right now. Let's just say that Giles comes home to find her lying on his bed. You can imagine his reaction and the reactions of Willow (who idolized Miss Calendar) and Buffy (who feels responsible for her death because she did not kill Angelus when she had the chance).

She was a woman who lived life to its fullest; who took enjoyed life by never listening to others' negetive comments and never looked back. For this we will all miss Miss Jenny Calendar. Her 90's attitude, killer wardrobe, fabulous wit, active imagination, and passion for life, will make her memory go on in our hearts forever. In a way Miss Calendar will never die. As long as we never forget what she brought to the show, in the short amount of time she was on it, Miss Calendar will be immortal; even if just in our heads.
