ICICLES
CHAPTER 1. “I’m late, I’m late, I’M LATE!!!!!!!!” Loz cried as she reluctantly shuffled out of the nice and warm covers that kept the icy cold air away from her body. She hastily pushed aside her teddy bears, clothes, papers and………sock??? “Oh, there you are!!!” exclaimed Loz as she lifted the brightly striped sock triumphantly into the air. This was a special sock indeed, one of the wacky presents her funny and lamebrain boyfriend had given her last Valentine’s Day. She spun around the room, still clutching the rather smelly sock close to her, totally lost in her daydreams and happy memories… ‘Moo!!! Moo!!!! Moo!!!’ Went her cow phone, another one of the wacky gifts given to her from her beloved Richie. Not the most romantic, but hey, it was……funny. “Oof!!” Loz cried out as she toppled over in a heap amongst the strewn clothing, jewellery and music notes all over the floor. Tenderly rubbing her butt after her most unexpected fall, she probed through the mess hoping to somehow find the cow. The ringing tone was beginning to give her a headache to add to the dizziness she received after spinning around the room. “Got cha!!!” she exclaimed as she spotted the phone lying under her music books “Hello?” said Loz almost falling over once again “Where are you girlfriend??? It’s like 11:30!!!! You promised me you would meet me here at the rink 20mins ago so we could go skating!!! Look, I’m not going to go out w/ whatsisname for nothing you know!!!” came the angry tones of her best-friend Rachel. “I…..I…..I’m sorry!!!” stammered Loz. ‘Rachel could be sooo picky, fussy and arrogant’ thought Loz. She cared about nothing at the moment except for her skating, and rarely had time for serious relationships. I mean, setting her up with Richie’s friend Scott wasn’t so bad. He was sooooo good looking and totally lushious!!! And he was sweet, nice, romantic, everything that you could possibly want in a… “Are you still there??? Hurry up you slow poke, you betta get down here quicksmart cos Richie, Scott and Sean are all here and waiting for you!!!! I’m warning you, if I have to spend another minute with your ‘sweetlips’ I’m gonna barf……” “Whoa whoa whoa….chill Rachie!!!! Everything will be coolies….I’ll be there in 10mins, is that ok??? And I do not call him ‘sweetlips’!!!!” flustered Loz. Really, Rachie sure knew how to embarrass people, she only hoped that Richie was not within listening distance of this phonecall… “Hey sweetlips!!!” cooed Richie. “Aren’t you gonna come and skate with us babe???” ‘Great’ thought Loz…Richie had heard…she was going to kill Rachel the next time she saw her!!! Loz smiled, ‘in about 10mins’ she thought. “Anyways, we’re gonna be right here waiting for you okies??? But right now, we gotta go, by the way, I think Scott and Rachel are really hitting it off!!!” said Richie. “Don’t count on it Rich, those two have a looong way to go,” sighed Loz “Well, I’ll cya there, I’ll be there in 15 ok?” “You said 10 Lozzie!!!” exclaimed Rachel who had snatched the phone away from Richie “yes yes, goodbye, now see you in 10 ok??? 10 MINS YOU GOT THAT MISSY???” “No need to shout, I’ll be there in 11” said Loz hoping to piss her off one last time as she immediately hung up the phone.

“Stress man, now what am I going to wear?” Loz said out aloud. Usually this was never a problem. All she ever wore were jeans or shorts to be mixed and matched with a number of brightly coloured tops. She randomly sifted through the mess before her and pulled out her favourite pair of jeans. They had faded quite nicely and would match the sweet pink cardigan that she bought the other day. “Perfect!” Loz exclaimed to herself. Whipping her fluffy blond hair into a twist she secured it with the silver barette and looked around for the other sock. All five of them had agreed to meet at Central Park to skate on the open air rink and then go for a coffee. She hated skating but Richie and the boys, not to mention Rachel loved it. Plus it was the perfect time to set Rachel and Scott up!!! ‘Hmmm, I wonder how I’m going to do this’ thought Loz as she found the sock on her stereo, slipped on her Airwalks, grabbed her bag and ran out of the house. Ten minutes later, Loz found them sitting on the park bench next to the fountain. This was their ‘hangout’ in winter, spring, summer and autumn. Hugging the cardigan tighter around her body, she rushed over to where they were ready and waiting to get on that ice. “So finally Miss Sleeping Beauty has awaken!” said Rachel in a huff. “Really, you look beautiful today Loz!!! Was all that sleep absolutely necessary? Anyways, hurry up and put on your skates!!!” Rachel was always in a better mood once she got what she wanted. “Hey gorgeous!!! All dolled up and beautiful just for me?” grinned Richie “You shouldn’t have my sweet!!! Now, you’re 10mins late for your morning kiss!” “Ok, kiss, lace-up and get out on that ice!” said Rachel, her impatience getting the best of her yet again. “I think we’ve got a time limit sweetie!!!” joked Loz and without wasting anymore time she tilted Richie’s chin towards her and planted a soft kiss on his cold lips. Then before she would be harassed by Rachel once again, she pulled off her Airwalks and slipped her feet into the hard leather of the ice-skates. “C’mon Loz, do hurry up!!! By the time you get your skates on, the ice would have melted already!!!” exclaimed Rachel as she slipped the blade guards off her skates and threw them back towards the bench. CYA guys!!! Meet at Café Mauritos at 2!!!” And with that she glided off onto the ice and began her warm up with Scott and Sean following her. ‘Fantastic’ sighed Loz, ‘we have to stay out here in the cold for another 2 hours.’ “Cheer up my little pumpkin!” said Richie “I’ll stay with you and hold your hand the whole time!!!” Loz chuckled to herself, this was her boyfriend trying to be sweet but he really had no idea. No idea at all. “You’re on!!!” replied Loz, placing her hand in his and stepped onto the ice.

Loz wasn’t surprised when Richie finally let go of her hand in search of food. Really, that boy had no sense of commitment. So Loz skated around the rink herself, cold but also thankful that he’d gone to get something to eat, she was famished. She only hoped it would be sensible food, like edible food and that it would also be hot. The last time she let Richie cook dinner for her, he had made jelly for an entree and cornchips with lots of barbeque sauce as the main. Dessert was even worse, as she remembered gazing at the bowl of pineapple bits, peaches, ice cream, chocolate sauce and sprinkles…his first and last time he would ever make trifle again. She shivered in her tracks and tried to push that memory back into her head. But, he did do it for her, that’s the main thing, it’s the thought that counts right? Her gaze then shifted to Rachel, a tiny figure practising her routine over and over again, as she wowed the crowd with her skating talent. Spin after spin, leap after leap she really had the potential to win the Nationals here in Canada. But unfortunately she did have some tough competition. Nevertheless, win or lose, I’m sure Scott will still be crazy over her! Thought Loz to herself. Ahh!!! And there he was!!! On the other side of the rink, directly opposite Loz and watching Rachel glide gracefully over the ice. A gentle and contented smile never left his face and a gleam of admiration remained in his eyes. If only Rachel knew thought Loz!!! Those two were soooo perfect for each other!!! Scott really is a cutie, I mean he’s such a catch!!! AND he was so down to earth and caring it drove Loz crazy. He deserved a girlfriend!!! All that love and tenderness and no one to share it with!!! With a sigh of exasperation she skidded to a stop. Rachie was sooo beautiful and talented, Scott so cute, sociable, caring, affectionate, thoughtful and tender……

“Earth to Loz!!! Earth to Loz!!!” said Richie waving a chili dog infront of her. “Checking out Scottie are we now?” asked Richie. “Actually yes,” admitted Loz, but when she saw the hurt look in his eyes, she quickly added “but only because I’m trying to work out how to get those two together!!!” Her gaze was diverted back to Rachel who was taking a bow. Scott had skated up to her and planted a kiss on her cheek. “Did you see that?” gaped Loz in amazement!!! Things were finally starting to happen. And about time too she thought. “Whoa!! Sure did, neva thought Scott had it in him!!! Well, are you satisfied now Loz? Can we go and eat these chili dogs??? I didn’t even know that you liked chili dogs!!!!” Loz sighed. Hopeless she thought. Utterly and totally hopeless. When she said hot this wasn’t exactly what she meant. Snatching the chili dog she skated back to the park bench without Richie. Why couldn’t he get a clue thought Loz. All she wanted was something hot, you know, it’s cold out here on the ice… ‘Must I spell the it out to him?’ thought Loz angrily. “Hey Loz!” chirped Thuy interrupting her thoughts. “Gee, never thought I’d see the day when you would be skating out here all by yourself!!!” “Actually, I’m timing out 4 a tic. And I’m not here by myself. As if!!! I’m here with Richie and the boys….Rachel too!!!” sneered Loz. “Of course Rachel is here, who else would be showing off on such a busy day like today!” remarked Thuy. Loz coolly ignored the observation and stared straight ahead. She was slowly losing control of her emotions, she had such a desire to hit someone. And Thuy would be the perfect punching bag! “So does that mean that Sean is here too?” Thuy asked casually. She had a secret crush on Sean but was too proud and haughty to ever admit that to Loz! “Of course” replied Loz, well aware of Thuy’s infatuation with the cute little boy as she always put it. Thuy was pretty and friendly, but she just wasn’t girlfriend material. But as if Loz was going to get them together anyway. Thuy and Sean??? Even the names didn’t mesh well. “So, where is he?” asked Thuy, a little agitated by the lack of response she was receiving from Loz. “Well, I’m just going to go and find him and say…oh hi Scott!!!” chirped Thuy. “Hiya girlies!!! Thuy deary when did you get here?” inquired Scott. “Oh you know, I just popped round to say hello, but now I think I’ll pop round and say hello to Richie and uh Sean! CYA later guys!!!” said Thuy as she hurried off to find Sean. “Hey Loz, why aren’t you skating?” asked Scott with a warm smile, “Chili dogs?? Whoa, since when did you eat spicy food?? I thought you hated it!” “I do” replied Loz and with that she stood up, tossed the remains of her chili dog into the bin and stepped back onto the ice. “Women!” exclaimed Scott “I wonder what’s gotten into her all of a sudden?”

Glancing at her watch, Rachel smiled to herself. Almost 2:00, I better go and do just one last spin I think, no doubt Loz wants to go for that coffee thought Rachie. The Nationals were coming up fast and if she wanted to make an impression on those judges, she had to get everything right. This routine must be perfect if I want to beat Kanami thought Rach. Kanami was the best skater in town, she’d won this competition twice now and was hoping to perform a hat trick by claiming this year’s nationals. Well, thought Rach, she’s not going to get the crown that easily! She started skating thrust her right skate forward and executed the cute little mohawk turn to progress into a series of backward crosses…… “Bah!” exclaimed Rachel as she collided with Richie and Sean. “Whoa! Sorry Rachie!! We didn’t mean, I mean, Sean tripped over the dent in the ice and…”Richie began “Oh sure,” sneered Sean, “blame me when we all know that you tripped over both of your left feet!!!” “That’s ok guys, I’m afraid I wasn’t watching where I was going” replied Rachel “Say Richie, where’s Loz? I thought you’d b by her side every step of the way!!!” “Um, I think she’s eating her chili dog or something!!! I bought it for her cos she was hungry and all!!!” said Richie with a grin as big as a hyena. “Don’t you mean that you were hungry and just happened to remember Loz was a separate part of your stomach?” said Sean with a laugh. “You doofus!!!” exclaimed Rachel. “Don’t you know that Loz HATES spicy food??? And what sort of boyfriend would buy his girlfriend a chili dog for crying out loud?” “Wha, what do you mean?” Said Richie, not understanding the hint, “she was hungry so I bought her something to eat! Besides, she did say she suggested I get something hot!!” By now Richie was beginning to seethe. “Let me ask you a simple question Richie….what season are we in?” asked Rachel “And what do you notice around you?” asked Sean “AND WHAT DO YOU THINK THE TEMPERATURE COULD POSSIBLY BE ON A SNOWY, COLD WINTER’S DAY???” yelled Sean and Rachel in unison. “Um….oh…I see what you mean!” said Richie. Sean and Rachel exchanged glances and skated off truly annoyed with Richie’s ignorance. “You should have just bought her a hot chocolate Rich!!!” Sean yelled back. A hot chocolate? Why didn’t I think of that thought Richie miserably. “Really, what does Loz see in Richie anyway?” asked Rachel as she skated alone with Sean. “C’mon, he’s not that bad a bloke, you just don’t like him because he wrote ‘I love Lozza’ all over the pavement with your favourite lipstick!” replied Sean “All the more reason to dislike him” said Rachel “I mean, he has no idea on things!!! For crying out loud he gave her socks last year for Valentine’s Day!” “Awww, but hey, you can’t say he isn’t boring!! I mean he’s an artist ok? He’s creative” replied Sean hoping to make Rachel see the goodness in his mate. “Creative? Puh-lease, banana peels and polystyrene? The day he has creativity is the day I marry him” scoffed Rachel “Well why didn’t you tell me that wedding bells were ringing Rachel? I thought for sure I’d be the first person to be told” said Sean pretending to be hurt. Sean and Rachel were great friends, ever since the day they were born. They did everything together…they would be bestfriends until the sun stopped shining. He’d known her long enough to know everything about her, twice. “Ha ha ha, funny.” Said Rachel, not fully appreciating the joke. “You and Scott an item yet?” inquired Sean, quickly changing the subject. “You know Loz and Richie are doing their absolute best to get you together! And everyone saw that kiss he planted on your cheek!” “It meant nothing. Scott and I well, he doesn’t like me I’m know it. I mean, I think he even likes…” Rachel started but was soon rudely cut off. “Oh hi Sean!” cooed Thuy with enough sappiness dripping in her voice to fill a whole ocean. “Funny meeting you here!!!” continued Thuy, as she smiled and batted her eyelashes. “Hi Thuy darrrrrrrrling” said Rachel trying her best to imitate the fake tone in Thuy’s voice. “Hey there,” said Sean, elbowing Rachel in the ribs. Thuy was one of the most annoying girls in the school, she hung around some real weirdos, but he had to admit, she was a babe! Rachel and Loz were always mean to her, and he could see why. Nevertheless, it was his duty as a guy to be civil and courteous to her whenever he saw her. “Oh please, gag me!” exclaimed Rachel, knowing that he was thinking about his polite and refined manner around women. “I was just wondering around the mall and I thought I might just put on my skates and go for a whizz…and well it was just my luck to bump into you!!!! What a coincidence!!!!” gushed Thuy “Gee Rachel, you lucky cricket you!!! I mean, with all these people here, I somehow, accidently ran into you Sean!!!” “Oh! Actually no one else knows that I’m under a curse and can tragically bring only bad luck and suffering to the people around me. I’m truly sorry Sean, I know this incident must have scarred you for life! Oh how careless of me!” retorted Rachel. Sean chuckled to himself, Rachie was so cute when she was angry! But he quickly reminded himself to remain gentlemanly and gracious to all around him. “Well Thuy, would you like to go for a coffee?” offered Sean. “You must be…” Rachel started. I mean, to be courteous was one thing, but this was crazy! She was going to have to admit him to the mental hospital after this. “I’d love to!!! I accept!!!” Exclaimed Thuy, and slipped her hand into the crook of his arm and skated off. “MEN!!!” exclaimed Rachel “I wonder what’s gotten into him all of a sudden!”

What will happen over coffee??? Will Thuy be accepted??? Will Richie get a clue??? How will Rachel fare against Kanami??? Will Scott get a girlfriend???

Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter of ICICLES!!! Read below!!

] ICICLES CHAPTER 2. Scott tapped his fingers on the table as he awaited the rest of his group to arrive. Boy, they were so slow! He looked out the window of Café Mauritos and checked the mall for any chics. Sigh, of course not. They wouldn’t be around the food court area anyway. They’d be trying on the latest outfit, sampling make-up and most probably buying Valentine’s Day pressies for their boyfriends. It wasn’t fair, all the good ones were always taken!!! He made a mental note to be more prepared and scout around early before the next V day…that’s if the good ones weren’t still occupied!!! “Hey Scott, sorry I’m late!” said Loz as she entered the café her arms full of bags with pink and red hearts dispersed among them. This is exactly what he meant. V day, what a pathetic sales gimmick. “So, where did you disappear to? I couldn’t find you anywhere on the ice!” said Scott still eyeing the bags Loz was carrying. “Oh, I left early to do some shopping, you know, last minute Valentine’s Day shopping!!!” replied Loz as she noticed Scott staring at the bags. “Wanna see what I bought him?” “Nah,” said Scott quickly removing his gaze from the bags. “Richie will tell me all about it later anyway! You know Richie, he’s always so happy when he gets stuff from you Loz!” “Wish I could say the same” mumbled Loz with some dismay. “What?” pressed Scott. For a minute there, she seemed to be a little melancholy and depressed. But how could she be? I mean with Valentine’s Day coming up on Friday!!! Not to mention the V Dance. Scott abandoned the thought and checked his watch again.

Meanwhile Thuy had dragged Sean into Goldmark’s. Thuy happily gazed at the sparkling jewels and never for a moment released her hold of Sean. Sean stared out of the window in total boredom. Gee, courtesy and affability came at a price! “Oh look at these gawgeous jewels!” gushed Thuy. “Wouldn’t it be so cool if I had some really nice, sweet, caring and devoted guy to buy these for me?” She looked up and gazed into his eyes, doing her best to give him that little flirtatious smirk. “Sorry, if you mean me, then I’m broke this V day!” remarked Sean. With a sigh of frustration, Thuy balled her fist. He was supposed to take the hint subconsciously not literally!!! This whole afternoon she had tried and tried to give him the sly hint and sassy compliments hoping to wean a confession of his undying love to her! But the situation was hopeless, he just wasn’t going to comply with her gestures. But she was too stubborn to give up, afterall he did invite her to coffee afterwards did he not? “Coffee?” she exclaimed out loud. “Ohmigosh I totally forgot!!!” “Oh crap, what’s the time?” asked Sean. He had totally forgot about afternoon tea with his friends, because of his duties. He bit his lip as thousands of excuses came to mind to explain his tardiness to his friends. “It’s 2:20!!!” said Thuy. “Why, are you thirsty after all that skating?” This was her chance thought Thuy, a date with Sean……sighing happily, she hugged his arm even tighter. “Oh dear…my friends are going to kill me for being late!!! I totally forgot!” worried Sean. “Friends?” Thuy was utterly confused. Why should his friends care if he was late? “I mean, why would your friends kill you?” “Because I was supposed to meet them at 2 at Café Mauritos!!!” cried Sean. “You mean, you thought I was asking you out on a…” “A date? Of course not!!! Don’t be silly!!!” rambled Thuy chuckling a fake laugh to hide her disappointment. “Well, shall we go for coffee now?”

Richie sauntered into the café at about 2:30. He was bummed out after finding nothing to give Loz for Valentine’s Day. Sigh, finding the perfect present was not easy he had to admit that! But it had to be perfect and no matter how hard, he was going to find it. Loz deserved it. “Hey man, where’ve ya been?” asked Scott. “Yeah, Scott and I have been having a great time! We’re on our second cup of coffee!” sighed Loz happily. “So where have you been?” “Huh?” said Richie. Was it just him or did she say she had a great time with Scott? Oh, of course she would have, Scott was so funny, and sociable, and most importantly he hadn’t arrived yet. That must be it Richie thought to himself. “So, where were you?” proded Scott with a goofy little smile on his face. “Uh, shopping and stuff” said Richie half heartedly. “Shopping?” Scott smiled and looked over to Loz raising his eyebrows as he did so. Loz just looked down and muttered “not sock shopping I hope!” loud enough for only Scott to hear who was sitting next to her in the booth. Scott let out a low whistle and shook his head. What’s going on he thought to himself, Loz and Richie were usually as close as can be. Oh well, this was obviously none of his business anyway. “Hi hi, sorry I’m late guys” gushed Sean “I uh ran into uh Thuy here in the mall and all, so yeah. So what are we ordering?” “Hello everyone! I’ll have a cappuccino with chocolate and cinnamon on top!!! Oh, and two marshmallows on the side” she ordered the nearby waitress. “And what about you Sean?” asked Loz relieved of the tension in the air just a moment earlier. “Uh, just an ice-chocolate with coloured sprinkles on top!! My all time favourite!!” grinned Sean, glad that no one especially Loz had questioned why he’d invited Thuy to tea in the first place. Thuy and Sean squeezed into the booth alongside Rich facing Scott and Loz who were sharing a personal joke. Rich looked on sadly, silently cursing himself for being late anyway. Thuy and Sean also were caught up in a deep conversation which made Richie feel more alone than ever anyway. Half-heartedly Richie asked “So has anyone seen Rachie anywhere?” Rachel felt guilty. She was the one who organised this whole skating and coffee thing and now she wasn’t even going to turn up to the coffee bit. Poor Scott she thought who would be there all by himself. Rich and Loz would be smooching, Thuy would certainly keep Sean occupied, but poor Scott sitting there staring into his coffee cup and twiddling his fingers. But she wasn’t up to it. Not today. She leant against the fountain wall recapping the incident over and over in her mind. Justin was such a nice guy, so cute and friendly. Even his interests were ice inspired as he hoped to achieve his goal of becoming an ice hockey star. ‘Just perfect for me don’t you think?’ thought Rachel to no one but herself. Rachel sighed, she never used to be like this, everything always took a backseat compared with her skating. “Oh you old fuddy duddy you!” said Rachel to herself “Don’t go all gooey and stuff over a guy…it’s not your style!!!” Rachel looked over towards the pond and wondered if she’d made a good impression on Justin, you know, she hoped that she didn’t have anything stuck in her teeth, or that her mascara hadn’t smudgeed, or that her hair wasn’t too messy after practise. Rachel smiled to herself, Justin was soooo nice and all, he probably wasn’t the type to go for looks anyway! I mean, he just helped her, no escorted her off the ice! ‘Ok ok ok, helped and escorted,’ Rachel compromised. She then looked down at her throbbing ankle. She could still picture Justin’s hands gently removing the ice-skate and sock and releasing the ankle from it’s confinement. Oh, of course, that happened just after he’d carry her off the ice as if she was as light as a feather!!! Which she knew she wasn’t especially with the heavy skates on her feet and all. But still, he did it, and had also put his own ankle guard on just for support. She laughed remembering his lame jokes about the chicken and the egg, and then promised to call just to check if she was ok of course, and all Rachel could do was nod. She sighed again and wondered what was stopping her from going for this great guy……. “Oh yeah. He’s taken”

Back at the café, things still weren’t going right for Richie. He was still sitting there and Loz was still laughing at Scottie. No, WITH Scottie. “Scottie sure knows how to wow the girlies” muttered Rich. “If only I had some of that charm and charisma. Sean’s mobile phone then interrupted his thoughts. “Hello?……Rachie??? Where are you???………at the ice rink?…….oh……oh yes………my gosh, are you ok?……….phew, that’s a relief………don’t move, I’ll be right over!!! Bye!!!” Sean looked at the rest of the group, worry clearly showing in his eyes. “Rachie’s been hurt, she took a nasty fall out there!” said Sean and relayed the conversation he just had with Rachel. “Oh no! Is she ok?” asked Scott “Oh my goodness!!! The poor thing!!” exclaimed Thuy who got a nasty glare from Loz. “So where is she now?” inquired Loz. “At least now she has a good excuse for not being here!” joked Richie who also got a nasty glare from Loz “How can you even say this at a time like this? You’re so insensitive!!!” blurted Loz. “Wha….what did I do now?” stuttered Richie. Loz never yelled back when he cracked his jokes. What’s Lozzie’s problem thought Rich. And why was she acting so strangely today? “Well, I’m going to go pick her up and take her home now. I think she’ll want to get out of the cold.” Said Sean in dismay. “Well it’s been nice having tea with you and I’ll cya all next time!!!” “Uh ok, bye Sean!” Now it was Thuy’s turn to worry. How was she going to get home now? She had been counting on Sean to give her a lift but once again, her plans were foiled. And who knows? He may have even walked her to the door and kissed her goodbye. Frowning at her rotten luck, she gulped down the last of her cappuccino and marshmallows. Hastily retrieving her bag under the table she stood up. “Well, thanks for tea guys but I really have to go now, it’s been fun! I suppose I’ll see you all at school tomorrow? Ta-ta darlings!!!” said Thuy as she swept passed them to exit out of the café. “You can certainly try, but I very much doubt that!!!” replied Scott. Loz sighed with relief and lifted her coffee mug high. “A toast to the departure of Thuy darrrrrling!!!” She exclaimed as Richie and Scott laughed then lifted their own mugs high. Loz clinked her mug together with Richie and Scott then gulped down the remains of her coffee.

Meanwhile back at Rachie’s house, Sean had carried her upstairs and placed her gently on the covers. She lay back against the pillows and stared up against the ceiling. Her mind retracting back into land of daydreams, overcome by romance and sap. Get a grip dummy she chided herself and her mind snapped back to reality, her gaze wondering over to the cute figure skating lamp shade her mother bought her when she was 6. It was rather childish looking now, and looked old and grubby. But because of the skating pictures on it, the lamp shade was allowed to stay a part of her skating shrine. Sean too cast a quick glance around the room lifting an eyebrow as he acknowledged the posters, photos and toys located around the room. It was cute, and skating sure was his forte, but this whole shrine thing just didn’t appeal to him. With a shake of his head he turned and went to the bathroom and searched for the bandages and cream to dress her ankle. “Rach….where’s the Dencorub? I soooo can’t find it among your junk!” said Sean, clearly frustrated. “Um, check the bottom cabinet” was Rachel’s only reply. “Oh. Here it is, amongst the shampoo and mousse. Geez!” replied Sean, shutting the door with a bang. “So how on earth did you get off that ice?” Asked Sean upon entering the room. “Oh, uh Justin saw my fall and then uh, helped me off the ice…”Rachel replied nervously. Cool it Rach, you don’t want Sean to suspect anything, Rachel thought. “Justin huh?” Sean’s eyes twinkled at her reply, a smirk forming on his lips. “oh, I see.” Sean chuckled at the thought. “Don’t form any ideas” Rachel replied rather sharply. A little too sharp though. At this rate Sean would definitely smell a rat Rachel thought. Flicking on the bedlight, she grabbed the nearby skating magazine from her bedside table and began to randomly flick through the pages. “So, uh, have you done that maths homework that Mr Callaghan asked us to complete?” said Sean sensing the uneasiness in her voice. Rachel wasn’t interested in any guy, she had her skating to concentrate all her energies on Sean thought. She’d even said so herself. I mean, it’s not as if she couldn’t get a date, but she just wasn’t interested. She didn’t need one as yet! Sean sighed, another Valentine’s Day put on hold for yet another year. “Oh no!!!” exclaimed Rachel in distress “Mr C is gonna have a fit. I didn’t do the last homework that he assigned to me!!! Crap man, what am I supposed to do now!” “Well, I suggest you better start since you won’t be going back to that pond for another day or two. It’s not a bad sprain, it’s not even swollen. So that’s plenty of time to do your maths homework!!!” said Sean in a very official voice. “I’ll even get your maths book and calculator for you!” “Thanks a bundle Sean.” Answered Rachel in a grumpy voice “Just because you are having no troubles understanding his mathematical jargon and actually delight in the thought of maths homework!!!” “Well haven’t I touched a nerve?” replied Sean who was grinning like a cheshire cat. She looked so cute when she was angry!!! “And don’t think I look ‘so cute’ Sean!” Rachel warned. Sean grinned again, she knew him too well he thought.

“Scott? Is that you?” His mother frowned as Scott entered the room. “Uh sorry mum…I uh, was at the mall” came Scott’s hesitant reply. Oops, he’d overdone it just a tad. Now he was in like deep trouble. Taking a deep breath he braced himself for a grounding, or a banishment from tv or perhaps his guitar…… “You very well know that I wanted you home before 5! This meeting is very important to me and all I asked you to do is one small favour for me, is that so hard Scott?” his mum replied. Scott bit his lip, he felt bad about letting his mum down. But he couldn’t help it. Sometimes you had to hurt someone in order to help someone. He ran his hands through his hair and looked down at the floor. This was crunch time. What sentence would he receive for being late for a babysitting job? “Look Scott, you know this is the second time that this has happened and all, and you know I have to punish you now right?” His mother looked at him sternly. “Yes mum” came the mumbled reply. “Well, from now on, you are grounded until you’ve done all the household chores that I set for you each day do you understand?” his mum asked. “And how long am I grounded for?” inquired Scott. “Just for this week” said his mother. House slavery? Hmmm, not bad thought Scott. That didn’t mean total grounding did it? “Oh and Scott?” said his mother with a smile. “Yes mum?” a smile now forming on Scott’s own lips. “No guitar or television either!” His mum added. Rats thought Scott as he sauntered off to his room. What a rotten ending to a perfectly wonderful day!

What will happen at school tomorrow??? Will Richie ever figure it out??? Can Rachel finish her maths homework in time??? Will Thuy’s next ‘operation Sean’ plan work??? And just how will Scott survive???

Wondering if anything’s actually going to happen in this story??? I guess you’ll have to stay tuned and read the next episode of ICICLES!!!
