During the debrief Carter acts strange. They can't figure out why the goa'uld would attack a peaceful planet. Teal'C says that they sometimes do that out of pleasure. Carter says that maybe Teal'C wasn't told everything becasue he was a jaffa. 237 were rescued and brought to the airforce academy hospital. There are new SG teams 10 through 12.
O'Neill tells Carter that she needs to be checked out as usual. Fraiser finds a strange abbrasion on the back of Carters throat. She tells her that Kassandra has been asking about her. She asks her to stop by and visit her for awhile the following day.
Carter visits Kassandra in the hospital the next day. Kass senses something different about Sam and becomes afraid. Carter changes totally. Jack is called to the hospital because Kassandra requested him. She tells him that Sam'S a goa'uld and that she would kill her if she told anyone. At the mountain Sam urges the team to be ready for their next mission. When O'Neill arrives he makes up and excuse about a computer glitch and pumps her with sedative. Sam demands that the gate be open. Before she can to anything she is hit with more sedative. She pulls a grenade, but before she drops it she passes out. O'Neill grabs the grenade. They take her into custody.
They struggle to find out how the goa'uld entered her body. They suggest that it entered through her throat and O'Neill realizes that it was from the dead man. Daniel can't figure out why it was in a Nasian man. They begin a search to find out if any destruction devices where place on the mountain. O'Niell is put in charge of interogating the prisoner to find out what its doing there. In the hospital one of the civilians is examined by a doctor. The patient gains consiousness and kills the doctor. Daniel talks to a civilian woman.
Teal'C tells O'Neill to insult the goa'ulds ego and make him appear foolish. He says that it is their greatest weakness. do not see your friend. At first the goa'uld refuses to speak and then tells Jack that his tactics will not work. It demands to be let go. Then decides to say nothing more. Daniel shows the woman a picture of the man the goa'uld came from to find that the man was her husband. He asks if she noticed anything different about him. She says tht there was one on the back of his neck, months ago. She becomes upset and Daniel leaves her to rest.
The patient who killed the doctor removes a device from his mouth and then takes on a role of a doctor. He begins to scan the patients with the device.
The goa'uld demands once again to be set free and that it will find another host and send Sam back. He says that he could die, but he will try. Jack doesn't buy it. The goa'uld lets Sam speak, saying that he is telling the truth. Jack doesn't believe it and The goa'uld returns. The goa'uld requests to to talk to Teal'C. He says that he can provide them with info to prevent attack. He reveals that there are good goa'uld - the Tokra. He describes that he seeks power for a greater better purpose. He is Jolanar. Fraiser becomes suspisous when the doctor goes missing. She gets the blood work from the patient and undoes the bandages to find Dr. Jacobs.
Teal'C tells the team of the Tokra. O'Neill tells Jolanar of the man who got out of his bed. He says it is the Ahsra-hunter, sent to kill Jolanar. Teal'c tells of how Jolanar almost overthrew the system lords but was defeated. They found no sabotage on the mountain. Daniel talks to Jolanar. He says that he can return Shar'ai to him, because he knows where she is. Jolanar cannot tell them what the ashra looks like. Daniel refuses to believe the story. The Ashra manages to get to the base aboard a truck with civilians. They discover the assasine and go after him as the Nassians prepare to go through the gate. However they are to late. The Ashra find Jolanar and attacks him with the device. Jolanar is dying and Sam is at the brink of death also. Fraiser works to save Carter.
Daniel recognizes the assasin who takes him hostage as he trys to escape. He demands that the gate be turned on or Daniel will die. Hammond refuses. Teal'C shoots Daniel and the assasin in order to save both of them. Daniel is ok. The goa'uld dies, Carter's pulse returns. The goa'uld gave its life so that she could live. She slips into a sort of depression over the goa'ulds death. Kassandra trys to cheer her up.

When they arrive their they are greeted by other prisoners all are whistling. They can't figure out why until Teal'C finds a pair of smoking boots meaning that a person was standing in front of the gate when it opened. As Sam tries to talk to one she is attacked by a man named Vishneur. Before he can do anything a woman stops him. She says that Sam is under her protection and that no one is to touch her. The woman tells them that her name is Leneai.
SG-1 sets off to look for a power source in order to get the gate working. They encounter a man carrying a corpse. He offers a gift to Samantha, a token of friendship for the protected one. He asks Teal'C if maybe he will challenge Vishneur and win, Teal'C refuses. Daniel and Teal'C continue to look around as Jack and Sam talk to Leneai. On Earth SG-3 returns home empty handed.
Leneai tells them that they are deep underground of a planet, which no longer supports life. The people stand in front of the gate when it starts believing that they can escape through it when in fact they die. The Taldore gave SG-3 SG-1's weapons and sent them through the gate
Leneai demonstrates a power source which she developed. A chemical reaction between a liquid she calls her activators and a root found in the prison. This is a possible power source for the stargate. They agree to take her with them if she provides the power for the gate. Even if they do get home however they will not be able to get through because they have no remote transmitters.
The daily meal is sent through the gate and the prisoners eat. Leneai is fed first and then Vishneur. General Hammond and SG-9 begin negotiations with the Taldore to have SG-1 returned home. They couldn't get SG-1 out forcefully because they are far more advanced. General Hammond goes through the gate with SG-9 to speak with the Taldore.
Sam asks Leneai what her crime was and she explains how a terrible plague over took her planet, the medicine she developed accelerated
the illness instead of curing it and she was imprisoned. Leneai accepts their proposal and warns that Vishneur will attack them and if they fail they will not try again. Daniel tries to save one of the prisoners from being killed by the gate. This encourages an attack from Vishneur. Leneai tries to stop him, but fails. Vishneur suffocates Daniel, but Leneai secretly uses a device to stop him and kill him. Hammond attempts to bargain with the Taldore. However his efforts are useless.
Lenei heals Daniel and says that he prevailed. The man who was sent through the gate was blind, Leneai uses something to restore his sight. When he sees her he becomes frightened and runs away. Daniel awakes and is confused by what happened. He comes up with a planet that they can go to. SG-3 will be
visiting the planet so they can rendezvous with them and use their transmitter. They will use the time when the prisoners are eating to escape without notice. Daniel must distribute the food because he killed Vishneur. SG-1 takes their food and waits for the rest of the prisoners to disperse. They then wrap a vine from the power source around the gate. Leneai uses her "activators" and they are able to start the gate. As they escape the blind prisoner escapes into the gate just before it closes.
Sg-1 returns home safely with Leneai. Samantha shows Leneai their computer system and shows her how it works.
SG-3 returns with the prisoner who escaped through the gate. He tells them that Leneai is the destroyer of worlds. She created the sickness and killed and entire world. Leneai knocks Sam and the other technicians unconscious with the same device she used to kill Vishneur. She manages to activate the gate. They try to abort the sequence, but they fail. She escapes through the gate. When they try to redial the coordinates the entire system crashes. They have let out the destroyer of worlds.

As they explore further, snake like restraints capture them and secure them to the alien devices. O'Neill and Teal'C find themselves on earth, unsure of exactly where they are or how they got there. A truck pulls up and Kawalsky and a man named John exit the truck. O'Neill is confused because they are supposed to be dead. O'Neill realizes that this is the mission that John dies on. He tells Teal'C they are in East Germany, they were on a mission, but things went wrong.
When O'Neill removes Teal'C's hat he has hair and his emblem is gone O'Neill thinks that the machines they were sucked into are time machines. Teal'C suggests that maybe he has been given a chance to alter his history. They go on the mission, but O'Neill is unable to save John and he dies. Teal'C and O'Neill escape and they jump over a stone wall for cover. The shooting stops and moments later a truck pulls up and Kawalsky and John exit again, the situation is repeating its self.
Daniel and Sam find themselves in a museum. Daniel recognizes it as the New York museum of art. Daniel notices Egyptian ruins being constructed. Heading the construction are his parents. He tells Sam that they are their parents. Daniel screams for them to move as the roof of the structure caves in and kills them.
Meanwhile O'Neill and Teal'C go through with the mission again and the same thing happens a second time.
This time they notice the people shrouded in black staring at them and watching from the trees. The people are there when they return. A man steps out from the group and introduces himself as the keeper. He tells them to stop arguing and continue with the mission. He tells them that they must proceed because it is that which O'Neill has always wanted and always wanted to change. O'Neill tells Teal'C to sit down cause they aren't playing their game.
Sam tries to figure out what's going on and realizes that it isn't real. The death of Daniel's parents replays again and Daniel tries to stop it a second time. Sam notices the people shrouded in black.
His parents tell him to go back outside. Despite Daniel's attempts his parents still die. Sam points out the people to Daniel saying they must be in some sort of virtual reality and that his parents death was his strongest memory so that was the memory it picked to replay. The gamekeeper shows up and tells Daniel that he now has the chance to see if he can make a difference. Daniel says that he won't play anymore and walks away. The keeper brings Teal'C and O'Neill to the same location.
Carter gives O'Neill her theory and the keeper confirms her ideas. He says that he cannot let them go. The keeper and his people have been in there for one thousand years.
SG-1 provides new memories for them to learn from. They can only us the memories of Jack and Daniel because of Sam and Teal'C association with the goa'uld. The keeper says that the world is uninhabitable and Teal'C tells them that they are wrong. The keeper denies this and becomes defensive. O'Neill realizes that he knew that, but did not want the people to know the truth because he would lose control. As O'Neill tries to convince the people of the truth, but the keeper moves them elsewhere.
The keeper lets them go and they return to the garden. Upon returning to Cheyenne mountain they are examined by Doctor Fraiser. Daniel tries to convince them to go back and free the people.
Hammond says that they should return to the artificial world to get more information. SG-1 says that it could be hazardous, but Hammond says that they should be fine and if they don't come out in one week a team will come to rescue them. O'Neill gets up and starts to examine Hammond saying that he isn't the real Hammond and they are still on the other planet. When Hammond says "residents" they realize that Hammond is the actually the keeper.
Kawalsky appears in their cell and tries to convince them of the fun they could have in the artificial environment. O'Neill punches him and a fight breaks out. They escape and run into some of the "residents" they ask what it is really like outside. SG-1 tells them and say that the keeper is lying. They agree to go with SG-1 outside.
They attempt to go through the gate to show them what their planet looks like in their memories. Hammond stops them and as he runs away he turns in to the keeper. They enter a room with a strange symbol on the door and they are released from the machines. They follow the keeper outside, when they reach him they talk to him and find out that the planet has been habitable for many years. The people escape using the portal SG-1 came through and come out into the garden. SG-1 returns home.
