Tuxedo

Details

Theatrical Release Date: Sept 27th, 2002

Plot (Minor Spoliers): A New York City taxicab driver is hired to be a chauffeur for a mysterious man named Clark Devlin. When Devlin is hospitalized, the driver takes over Devlin's covert mission for the U.S. government: to uncover the secret scheme of bottled water broker Diedrich Banning. The driver also inherits Clark's computerized tuxedo, which gives its wearer supernatural powers of combat, camouflage and seduction.

MPAA Rating: PG-13 (for action violence, sexual content and language)

Distributor: DreamWorks Pictures

Production Company: Blue Train Entertainment, Vanguard Films (new company of John Williams, producer of Shrek and Seven Years in Tibet; also has Gateway to the Gods coming)

Cast: Jackie Chan (Jimmy Tong), Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jason Isaacs (Clark Devlin), Debi Mazar, Peter Stormare, James Brown, Ritchie Coster, Mia Cottet, Romany Malco; other cast not yet announced.

Director: Kevin Donovan (feature debut; he's previously directed commercials)

Screenwriter: Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi (writing team of crazy/beautiful; they also have Gateway to the Gods coming); rewrite by Michael Wilson (cowriter of Ice Age; he's also working on Sharkslayer)

Sequel Note: DreamWorks is hoping this could be the first in a franchise of Tuxedo movies (since, obviously, being in the Jackie Chan business is great).

Filming: Production started in Toronto on September 10th, 2001. Jackie Chan will also still be in the process of filming Highbinders, so he will be moving back and forth between the productions, as he can. (2/6/02) Filming wrapped up sometime last month.

Premise Note:

6/07/01 - The first draft had Chan's character as the "bumbling assistant" of the spy, but that's apparently been changed in Wilson's rewrite. (7/4/01) The Hollywood Reporter gave the same premise in their coverage of Jennifer Love Hewitt's negotiations, but Chan himself contradicted this angle while talking to the Toronto Sun (6/4/01), "I'm a truck driver. I help somebody and he was a spy and he is in a coma in a hospital. I go back to his house to help him, to take him a toothbrush and underwear, and then I find a tuxedo and then the story begins."

Genre: Action, Comedy, Eye Candy, Martial Arts, Spy
