Jocular

House #3 - Completed 6/10/95

[Jocular Screen Shot]
I wonder if anything is hidden behind those mirrors...

My third house. Jocular is, without a doubt, my worst house. It has background clashes and dumb rooms galore. However, it's still kind of fun. This was my first atempt to combine several different "theme" houses under one roof. They include Heavy House, Bomb House, Cone House, and more. Try it, maybe you'll like it. 115 rooms, B+ from GT

Here is the review from GliderTech:

Paul's Grade: B+

Webster's dictionary defines jocular as, "given to jesting; habitually jolly or jocund." I'm not sure what the last J-word means, but the name doesn't quite fit the house. I didn't feel jolly when I played it, nor were the names of the rooms particularly happy- sounding. At 115 rooms, Jocular is a moderately large house, and the difficulty gradually gets higher as you progress through it. Some rooms are cluttered and have bad placement, which is made worse by some background mismatch. Border rooms are also absent. The art problems don't detract too much from the overall appeal of Jocular. Nothing stands out as really awesome, yet nothing is glaringly wrong. It would be good for the beginner who's done the demo house, but isn't quite ready to get all the way through Slumberland.

Shawn's Grade: B+

I also tore out my good ole' Webster's and checked the definition. I, like Paul, wasn't terribly jolly either as I flew through the house. The rooms were pretty varied in difficulty and some rooms had traps that you couldn't forsee before you were already in them. The custom sounds ported over direct from "The Simpsons" did bring a smile to my face, although they sometimes pronounced my upcoming disintegration in a fiery spark, A.K.A., glider death. The house is fun, and the download, like most houses, was only a couple minutes, so have at it. I hope you have better luck at it the first time than I did.
