REVIEW OF THE TEXAS SIDECAR |
This year at the annual Scoot - Tours Convention called Scootercade I purchased and had installed a Texas Sidecar on my newly fixed up 1986 Honda Helix. |
The sidecar I got is made for the scooters and is a smaller size they made various sizes and can fit them to almost any bike. |
Installation onto the Helix was very easy and can be done inless than an hour ( Unless you talk alot like we did ) |
You can order the side car and they can ship it to you along with installation instructions for you or a shop to use to install it. |
Why a sidecar for me? |
There are various reasons to get a sidecar mine was simple. I have a child who loves to ride with me and he gets too comfoirtable sometimes and starts to fall asleep. Now that I have the sidecar I don't have to worry he can sleep all he wants to. |
As an added bonus since I've gotten it I have found it great for Garage Sales or any other time you have to haul around a bunch of stuff. |
Quality of the car |
The quality of the car is top notch. It comes complete wioth everything no need to buy the little extras like some other companies require. |
Service / Staff |
The Texas Sidecar Company ( Bob and Deb) were great to deal with. They were prompt to respond to my e-mails and answered all my questions about the sidecar before I bought one. |
After it was installed and test driven I was given instructions by the owner (Bob) and taken out for a ride which included street and parking lot practice. |
Performance |
Okay remember we are talking about a 250cc Scooter here so Speed Racing was never an option. |
The top end on the scooter before the sidecar was at best under normal conditions was 72 miles per hour. With the sidecar I am down to about 62. ( Your actuals may vary slightly ) |
As of writting this I have logged about 1000 miles with the sidecar attached. |
The first part of this was a 500+ trip back to my house from Arkansas. Let me tell you I would not suggest this to you. 500 miles is a good trip on two wheels but with three wheels on curving roads and hills its a lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng trip. |
Now that its home I take it out on short trips ( less than 100 miles ) and around town if I go farther than that I take my two wheeler. Partially because if I go that far I go alone and don't need the sidecar. |
BONUS |
If you thought your Helix got noticed before throw a sidecar on it and your a big hit. |
Everytime I come out of a store there are people standing around looking at the bike. It's great. |
Also everyone wants a ride in one. I should charge a dollar a ride I'd soon be a rich man. |
Closing |
Having a sidecar may not be for everyone you drive it by steering where you want to go ( It's not a bike anymore ) But it is highly practical and a whole lot of fun. |
