Bio
DJ
Schwa (aka Tony Rosa) was born in Allentown, PA, a suburb
of Philadelphia. He was exposed to music very early in
his life, mainly from his father who was a local DJ and
record store owner. Watching his dad and hearing artists
like Stevie Wonder, Johnny Guitar Watson, and Michael
Jackson, made Tony want to be involved with music.
As
he got older, his tastes expanded to include many genres.
During high school, he played the guitar in a punk band
and also played bass in a jazz band. His musical preference
would evolve once more, after his family moved to Orlando,
Florida in 1995.It was there that Tony became interested
in the rave scene and stared going to parties. He listened
to mostly break-beat and drum-n-bass, but was disappointed
by what he was hearing. So, he began to collect records
and taught himself how to spin on a friends turntables
Since
then, Tony has thrown down in many clubs all over Orlando,
including Knock Knock, AKA Lounge, Peacock Room, Bodhisattva
Social Club, Elements, and Hard Rock Live.
While
he plays a wide variety of music, including drum-n-bass,
nujazz and hip-hop, his favorite style is deep Chicago
house music. He is strongly influenced by Derrick Carter,
Mark Farina, Sneak, Roy Davis Jr., and Gene Farris. Schwas
set is best described in his own words: "I play music
from my heart and for your soul, my aim is to move the
crowd...to make them feel what I feel, what the producer
felt while he was making the song I'm playing."
And
that's exactly what he does.
