Peppy Brown

Beauty and Sweetness
His breeder wanted a silver poodle as they are very expensive. So he bred a black male and a white female. This will occasionally produce a silver puppy. Peppy was born as black as could be. But by the time he was 5 years old he was silver, as you can see in the picture above. He came into our lives at age 3 months, a previously owned puppy. The first folks who purchased him from the breeder, could not keep him properly as both worked and he required more attention than they were willing to give. So they brought him back to the breeder who then sold him to us as used merchandise for only $50. This price may have been set intentionally low as the breeder had extreme problems in his personal life and wanted to quickly get rid of him.

My sister-in-law had a toy poodle and knew that we wanted one. She was made aware of the situation through friends of hers who knew the breeder. She went to visit them and was able to purchase him from the breeder who lived in Wisconsin. The breeder promised in about a week he would send the papers on him and we could file them to register his pedigree. (Unfortunately he committed suicide before he sent them.) Sue and her daughter, Cheryl, brought him to us (We lived just across the state line in Lake county, Illinois.) the same evening in the middle of October, 1980. We gladly gave her the $50 and he took charge of our lives.

He really took charge of our lives and changed us all for the better. He allowed Daddy to go to work, but he required Mama to stay home and take care of all his needs. If she went anywhere he had to go. From this point on the two of them developed a special bond. The next spring arrived and one balmy day she opened the kitchen door to let him run in and out and play outside in the sunshine. In a little while he came running in, barking excitedly with those brown eyes just sparkling. He kept on until she got up from her knitting and went outside to see if something was wrong. But it was just beautiful and he wanted her to see how gorgeous it was outside; he wanted her to enjoy it with him. He never liked being alone.
