Eddie James Kendrick

Eddie James Kendrick was born on Decemeber 17, 1939 , in Union Springs, Ala.
He moved to Cleveland & later on, to Detroit, in the late 50's with childhood friend, Paul Williams. Eddie was one of the founding members of the Primes, along with Paul. That group would later merge with another local Detroit group, Otis Williams & the Distants, to form the legendary Temptations.
Eddie sang on lead on the Tempts 1st major hit, "The Way You Do The Thing You Do". and lead many more memorable songs , such as "The Girl's Alright With Me", "Get Ready", "Your My Everything" & "Two Sides To Love".

Eddie's most recognized & beloved lead , which was also his final song with the Temptations, "Just My Imagination", was released in 1971.

Eddie left the group in March of 1971, having grown tired of the new direction that producer Norman Whitfield was heading the Tempts in. He had success in the early 70's after leaving the Tempts, with " Keep On Truckin'" & "Boogie Down". He also suffered the loss of dear friend , Paul Williams, in Aug. of 1973, from an apparent suicide.

Even though Eddie had left Motown in 1978, He returned to the Tempts lineup in 1982 for their "Reunion" tour & album. During the late 80's & up until his death in 1992, Eddie toured with fellow ex-Tempts, David Ruffin (he passed away in '91), and later Dennis Edwards as part of "Original Leads of the Temptations".

Eddie James Kendrick passed away on October 5, 1992 in Alabama , of lung cancer, at the age of 52.
