Wimbish is perhaps best known as the bassist in the house band of the legendary rap label Sugar Hill, backing Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five on their epochal Message album, among many others.

Doug Wimbish is a bassplayer.

Doug is a one of the finest bassplayers around. He hails from the states but worked quite frequently in the UK. He started out in the house band for Sugarhill records and was also part of the group called Wood Brass and Steel who of course everyone knows now did the massive Funkanova.

Later, Doug worked with Adrian Sherwood, where he backed singer Bernard Fowler of Peech Boys fame. Doug was a member of Mark Stewart And The Maffia, backing on seminal LPs like 'Mark Stewart' and 'Metatron'.

Blazing. It's one of Doug Wimbish's favorite words and it's a perfect description of his style. Whether he's laying down a track in the studio, slapping out a groove onstage, or performing one of his amazing solo clinics for Trace Elliot, Wimbish simply ignites the music. His playing is so hot, so intense, you'll find yourself looking around for a fire extinguisher. - Jim Roberts, Bass Player magazine 1993
