Yello 'Bostich'

Yello starts as a trio in 1979 with the maxi-single "I.T. Splash/Glue Head" on the underground label Periphery Perfume (Zurich, Switzerland). The debut album, "Solid Pleasure", which features the cult single Bostich, is released in 1980 on the legendary independent label, Ralph Records (San Francisco), and in the spring of 1981 on Phonogram (Hamburg, Germany) and on Do It-Records (London). Dieter Meier shoots his first feature film "Jetzt und Alles" ("Take It All") in Berlin. Yello also takes part in the soundtrack, and appears in two scenes as band. The second album, "Claro Que Si", is released in the fall of 1981. Yello shoots their first video for the song "The Evening's Young. The songs "Bostich", "Pinball Cha Cha" and "She's Got A Gun" are released as 12-Inch maxi and single. The video for "Pinball Cha Cha" wins various prizes in 1982 and is later included in the collection of the New York Museum Of Modern Art (MoMA). The third album, "You Gotta Say Yes To Another Excess", is released on Phonogram and Elektra Records in the USA in 1983. The album's singles and videos are "I Love You" and "Lost Again". Carlos Peron leaves Yello to start a solo career. Ever since then, Yello has worked as a duo. "Bostich" becomes a club hit in England and the U.S. (DJ Afrika Bambaata). Yello performs two of their rare live gigs at New York's legendary club "Roxy" in December. Yello shoots the "Bostich" video in New York in 1984. The live recording "Yello Live At the Roxy, N.Y." is released as a 12-Inch. "Stella", the fourth album, is released in 1985. The singles and videos are "Vicious Games" (with guest singer Rush Winters), "Oh Yeah" and "Desire". Yello shoots the "Desire" video in the Cuban capitol, Havana. Yello composes exclusive music for the designer Azzedine Alaia's fashion shows in Paris and New York. The double album, "1980-1985 The New Mix in One Go" containing Yello's own dance mixes, is released in 1986. Yello shoots the "Goldrush" video and appears in the British music program "Euro Tube". The "Vicious Games" and "Desire" videos are awarded prizes at MIDEM in Cannes, France. "Oh Yeah" is used in the Hollywood movies "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Secret Of My Success". The album "One Second" and the single "Call It Love" are released in 1987. Shirley Bassey is the guest singer on "The Rhythm Divine", for which Billy Mackenzie ("The Associates") wrote the lyrics. Jean-Paul Goude wins prizes for his advertising spots for "Orangina" and "Lee Cooper", both of which featured music by Yello. The song "The Race", originally a trailer for the top German TV music show "Formel Eins", is released in 1988 as a single and video, and becomes a worldwide Top Ten hit. The video also wins the "Diamond Award for best special effects" in Brussels. "Oh Yeah" is used by the Twix Candy Bar company for its worldwide advertising campaign. The TV production "Star-Test-X", in which Dieter Meier is interviewed by a computer, wins the "Rose d'Or" in Montreux (Switzerland).The album "Flag" is released, and Yello shoot the video for "Tied Up". In 1989 Yello produces two more videos from "Flag": "Of course I'm lying" and "Blazing Saddles". "The Metropolitan Mix Down Part One and Two", a Yello song medley remixed by Paul Dakeyne, is released together with "Of course I'm lying". In 1990 Dieter Meier directs his feature film "Snowball/The Lightmaker" with Zbigeniew Zamachowski in the lead role in Poland. Boris Blank composes the music for the Hollywood thriller "The Adventures Of Ford Fairlane" starring "Rock & Roll-Detective" Andrew Dice Clay. Numerous Yello songs are used in the English film comedy "Nuns On the Run". The album "Baby" is released in 1991. This time there are videos for the songs "Rubberbandman" and "Who's Gone". Billy McKenzie is the guest singer on "Capri Calling". Peter Zumsteg takes over Yello's management in 1992. The "Jungle Bill" single and video are released. The album "Essential Yello", a sort of "Best of..." compilation containing 16 singles, is released together with a video compilation. In 1993 Yello produces the music for a Lee Cooper jeans commercial. In the USA, "Drive / Driven" from the album "Baby" and "Vicious Games", remixed by Mark Pichiotti and Terry Bristol, are released. The album "Zebra" is released in 1994. The singles and videos are "Do It" and "How How". The remix album "Hands On Yello" is released in 1995 on the Motor/Urban-Label: 13 dancefloor artists, including Westbam, Jam & Spoon, Plutone, Carl Cox, Carl Craig, The Grid and The Orb, interpret Yello songs. The release party in Zurich's "Kaufleuten" club features live performances by the participating DJs. Successful singles by Westbam with "Bostich" and Jam & Spoon with "You Gotta Say Yes../Great Mission". Yello shoots the "Tremendous Pain" and "Suite 904" videos. Gold medal for the TV music program "JAM-Special": Yello at the New York film and TV festival. Another exclusive live performance at the "Evolution-Mayday" in Dortmund. Film soundtrack for the Manga animation film "Space Adventure Cobra". Budweiser beer uses "How How" for their Olympic campaign (Atlanta 96). Yello is constantly in the Billboard Dance / Club charts for more than a year with remixes of various singles (i.a."Tremendous Pain", "How How","La Habanera"). The triple remix 12-Inch "On Track" is released in a strictly limited edition as a first teaser for the up-coming album"Pocket Universe". The video for the album's first single, "To The Sea", is shot under the co-direction of Paul Morgans and Dieter Meier in New York and London. Yello premieres "Pocket Universe", a multimedia extravaganza at the Planetarium Munchen. Boris Blank and Dieter Meier present a large part of their forthcoming new album released in February 1997. In January 1999, YELLO releases the album "Eccentrix", a collection of 11 highly sought after remixes of the band's classic tracks. On October 25 1999, the long-awaited for studio album "Motion Picture" is released. "Squeeze Please" is its first single. -
