Accessing Sanctuary Using a Mud Client

For those of us who find telnetting to Sanctuary confusing and hard to read, there is a solution, and it is not throwing your computer out the window. You can access sanctuary through using a Mud client. A Mud client is a programme specifically written to use in mudding. They are usually very simple to set up and are easy to understand. They are also small programmes that do not take up a lot of memory or harddisk space. There are several good Mud clients on the internet that are either shareware or freeware.

Usually you just download the file into a subdirectory in your internet directory, unzip it, click on the .exe file and you are set up and ready to go. If you are using winsock and windows 3.1, I would recommend that you find a copy of SimpleMu. This client (or programme) provides a separate line for you to type in and keeps what you are typing separate from the rest of the scroll, until you hit the return key. This line is called a status bar. This feature is very handy for newcomers to Sanctuary, those of us with poor eyesight, or those of us with learning disabilities who have trouble reading regular telnet screens.

Have fun and remember that Sanctuary is indeed a safe haven for us all.
