The Saras
Saras roll-out The first test flight of the "Saras", due in 2003 will be a landmark for the Indian aviation industry as it will be the first wholly Indian designed passenger airliner to take to the air.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is cooperating with the National Aerospace Laboratories (NAL) to design and build this aircraft, with a number of retired experienced designers having joined the project at NAL.

The Saras is a 14 seater general aviation aircraft with a maximum speed of 550 kmph and a range of 1200 Km, a payload of 1230 Kg and endurance upto 6 hours, extendable to 8 hours.

The plan at left shows the dimensions of the Saras, which has two pusher turbo props and a maximum take off weight of 6100 Kg.
