Answer: We humans have become intolerant of 'restrictions/limitations of TIME'; we want everything now... spiritual enlightenment, wealth and fortune (get rick quick schemes), and even healing of our issues, usually without putting in the required practice, disclipline, and changes that will support our intended re-balancing. We also teach Reiki, and we make it very clear that Reiki is NOT a healing technique... a practitioner cannot heal another person by just the simple technique of 'laying-of-hands'. The person who is experiencing imbalance and dis-ease is the only one who is ultimately responsible for their own healing. Simplistically speaking, some thought or action (often based on EGO-identification) that they have chosen to give power to, has diverted them from their awareness of their Divine Nature and their purpose for physical incarnation. As such, they lose sight of the SOURCE of their energy/lifeforce... God/Goddess/Creative-Principle/Creator. And that is the the foundation of our imbalances and conditions that affect our organs and immune system, and eventually the breakdown of the systems within our body temple. A dis-eased person often seeks medical advice, giving their power and responsibility for healing to a "practicing physician" who most often prescribes chemically-based pharmaceuticals, which mask the condition and resulting pain/discomfort. But the chemicals are also toxic to the body and difficult to eliminate from the body with continued use. So then we complain to the doctor who usually prescribes additional 'pills' and eventually decides that surgery is necessary to better see what is happening inside the body. Often an organ that is malfunctioning because of the intake of pharmaceuticals is removed and the energy flow and functioning of one or more bodily systems are compromised, ad infinitum. If after a considerable amount of time, trial and error, and loss of body function due to removal of one/several organs, the person goes to an alternative/complementary practitioner for help, they are usually at the end of their proverbial 'rope' and want/need instant healing. Therapists using one or more modalities like Reiki, Therapeutic Touch, Bio-magnetics, herbs, massage, scent aromas, psychic surgery, and too many to list, are given the task of bringing these people back from the nearly-dead... often unsuccessfully. Alternative/complementary therapies are not designed to be 'instant cure-alls' for all diseases, but rather an on-going daily self-treatment practice that keeps the body/mind enegized and running smoothly. In other words, we have again chosen to ignore the facts that we can hone our daily health with 'lifeforce energy' that comes from Creator and is ours to access and utilize to keep our bodies in tip-top shape so our experiences of life through our physical sensory organs is optimal. We need to regain the sense of responsibility for our every moment of reality... we need to accept that we create our realities by our thoughts/words/actions toward Creator, ourselves and others, as being the expression of the Divine in and through our physical vehicles. So, Reiki and similar energy modalities/techniques do not have limitations, but rather our 'minds' have created a false sense of 'separation/limitation' from the Source of our Being... and we only need to come back to the TRUTH of Who/Whose We Really Are, and our purpose for incarnating... to be in joy with the temporary state of physicality, a gift from Creator, so He/She/It can experience creation through our mind/body experiences. And... to use the gifts that are our birthright as Divine Sons and Daughters of the One Source.

Answer: As you can tell, we love Reiki. We live Reiki.... we don't just work it. When a practitioner adopts that attitude, Reiki and universal flow will be working throughout every aspect of his/her life... and clients will be there seeking out what they perceive within the practitioner. You won't need to advertise.... business will appear wherever you are: in a restaurant, in a grocery line, in the post office, etc. I guess that I [Light] am saying that when you have integrated Reiki.... when it has permeated and filled your auric field.... when people respond/react to the Reiki that surrounds your body, and you talk, breathe and eat Reiki to everyone you see, you will not want for clients.... they will come seeking the gifts that you have developed. If on the other hand, your circumstances are not exactly like my description, then you probably haven't yet integrated the Reiki energy and Reiki has not yet become the topic of choice when you are in the presence of any other people.
What to do?..... do lots more Reiki on yourself..... do as many minutes/hours as you have time and free hands to place on yourself. Push the envelope of treatment times.... really discover what Reiki can do for you and others when you do more than the 'average' treatment time of one hour as taught by most western world Reiki teachers. And I don't know if you have been digging around in published Reiki books, on the internet, and chatting with other Reiki practitioners around the world, but you might want to look closely at the recently released information from Japan regarding Usui's/Hayashi's manuals being release to the public, and to the techniques that have been taught by the teachers of Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai, and consider practicing them on yourself, as well as receiving the attunement from that lineage... for that really helps to increase a practitioner's vibrations, calling forth a more pure stream of energy that is much closer to Usui himself. I am not in judgment of what you have learned from your teacher(s), nor do I want you to be parrot us or anyone in the Reiki community, but I will recommend that you continue to learn all you can about Reiki, for the information that has been taught outside of Japan for so many years has been watered down, altered, information deleted, added to, and changed.... so Reiki as taught in Japan is very different from the westernized versions taught by most teachers. And with the growth and accessibility of the internet in every country of the world, it is not surprising that people who will seek out Reiki treatments from a practitioner might be better versed in the true history and techniques of Reiki than the practitioner.... and that can be detrimental to one who wants to start a growing Reiki practice. In other words.... if you are not continuing to research and learn about your chosen field of interest, and you are only interested in making money.... the business is destined to fail. This is the age of information... and we must expect the average person to be better informed about all kinds of subjects than they might have been just 10 years ago.
Now to answer your questions.... precisely. If you are still going to advertise.... I would recommend the creation of 'flyers' and business cards. They both need to catch the eye of passerby's, be simple and 'to-the-point' about the benefits received from receiving Reiki treatments. If you are going to have clients come to you... then you will need to have a room in your home or business front that is devoted to 'healing' and nothing else. You will need to make that room's surroundings conducive to 'relaxation'... intended to help a person to release stress so energy can flow through their bodies. Helpful additions to a 'Reiki Room' can be aromatherapy, darkened room, candles, relaxing music, picture of serene places, perhaps representations of spiritual deities known to work with 'healing, compassion, enlightenment', and a sterile environment to help clients raise their awareness of the importance of environment, surroundings and space.... a place where they can escape from their everyday hum-drum lives of struggle and pain. And most of all, you need to be able to talk to your clients about 'responsibility'... that reality is experienced based on one's thoughts, words and actions toward themselves and others. You need to be knowledgeable enough to talk to clients about their lives, their relationships, their environments, their likes and dislikes, as possible stresses that play a very big part of creating their conditions and dis-eases. You need to help them to want to make changes in their lives so they can create a better reality for themselves... one filled with loving, supportive people, work they enjoy, a spiritual practice for their continued growth, improved diets, and improved life conditions so they develop more self-esteem and love for themselves and others. These are absolutely necessary if you want your Reiki work to have lasting effects.... if you are seeking people who are stressed, ill-of-health, dis-eased... to come to you for treatment, Reiki will help.... but they must first understand that they caused their conditions by their thoughts/words/actions, and that if they want to become healthy, balanced and happy in their lives, they will have to be willing to make changes.... especially knowing that they will be uncomfortable and difficult to make. Reiki will not heal all of the causes in one's life without on-going, continuous treatments by you or another practitioner. So it is imperative to teach them about how their choices have gotten them into their imbalanced/dis-eased situations, and what they will have to change in order to regain inner and outer harmony. Reiki will work in their lives, but they will not pay for years of treatments from you.... you will need to teach them how to give Reiki to themselves, while doing all in their power to make new choices that will support their desired dreams of reality. Reiki will support these changes, speed up their processes, bring up their suppressed issues, really 'stir their pots'.... and they will dump their 'stink' on you. You need to be ready for that. You need to prepare yourself for that.... to be balanced, harmonious and in process of healing your own life issues before you can truly help others to heal theirs.
Reiki is not just energy that you can give to someone.... it is a energy system that will trigger deep-seated issues and patterns in someone's life. It is life-altering.... causing people to really look deep within themselves..... bring great change (uncomfortable to most) in, around and through ones life and surroundings.... heals all levels of imbalances from this life and from other lifetimes as well. I understand that you want to be helpful, but if you haven't given thought to all of these issues and others that will arise because of the introduction of Reiki to your client's lives, I suggest you really give it some careful consideration.... if you are prepared to help people with their issues, then by all means, put yourself out there as a "Reiki Practitioner" giving treatments. But if you are not knowledgeable of what Reiki can and will bring up.... if you are not ready for people 'energetically vomiting' their stuff on you.... if you are not sure you can handle someone who is 'unwinding' and thrashing about on your Reiki table.... and you don't know how to clear a room and yourself of that energy as a result of giving treatments.... then you might reconsider 'wanting to start a Reiki business'. We have seen far too many people who saw Reiki as a tool of relaxation (which it is - on one level of consciousness) and who, when faced with the reality described earlier, decided to renounce their 'service' and became very private, imbalanced and fearful of the 'human condition'. And to make matters worse, still had to work to support themselves, so they were not afforded the time and space of healing, learning how they could have handled the situation, etc. We have even seen a few of these practitioners blame Reiki, having nothing to do with it... bad-mouthing Reiki to anyone who broached the subject. I would like for you to know that this doesn't have to happen to you.... I am only asking you to look beyond your desire to cease working 'tradition' dead-end jobs for something more 'exotic'.... while Reiki is beneficial to everyone, the downside of the process of changing is not often considered by new practitioners. So please take some time in making your decision. Talk to a lot of different practitioners who have opened a practice.... ask how they are faring... what changes they would make if they were repeating the task today. Learn from others, be prepared for all possibilities. If you don't know how to counsel with others, get educated..... take classes or read lots of books..... talk to other successful counselor-type people. If you don't feel as prepared as others are..... do what is necessary to become so. The start-up of any business is a whole lot more than just what to put on advertising flyers and business cards. When you have given lots and lots of Reiki treatments to your family, your friends and their friends.... and you have gained a lot of knowledge and understanding of what Reiki is and will do when introduced into someone's life, and you have handled client's issues successfully for a couple of years, then you might consider hanging your 'shingle' (the 'doctor' is in.... sign). By then you will know what words to use to broadcast your intentions.
Answer: Yes, some people have natural healing abilities, or to put that in other words... some people have reached a state of understanding of energy, how to access and utilize it to help those in need who ask for it, in this or previous life experiences, and who, having returned for another round of physical embodiment on the Wheel of Live, have picked up where they left off. Spirituality is an on-going process, not anything that can be grasped in a short period of time with minimal practice. It requires dedication to purpose... that of desiring to nurture the fullness of the Spirit Within so it can be fully present and expressed through the actions of the body/mind. When that is the sole intent of a person, then Creator/Universe will create every opportunity for that person to represent Creator/Spirit in everyday situations. That is the sign of a true spiritual seeker... someone who is busy being of service to the greater good of Creator and creation.
Reiki is quite a strong force, but it takes someone who has achieved a modicum of sensitivity or greater to be able to discern it... so give yourself some approval for your growth to date. And you have not backslid on your spiritual path... just not given it the attention your Spirit desires. But you don't lose it... you just don't move head necessarily until you consciously choose to follow the Divine Rules of Creator in all you think/speak/act toward all others, knowing they are One in Spirit with you... and that what you do to one, you do to all, and to yourself. Therein lies the merit we accumulate which catapults us along our path... like a well-tossed stone skipping across the water's surface.
Re: your Christian fiancée... that can be a bit of a challenge... but only if she has voluntarily given all of her responsibility for her life to the clerics of her religion. If she is empowered to know that she has God within her, that she co-creates her life circumstances by her moment-to-moment thoughts/words/actions, and she identifies with Christianity because Spirit in her is directing her to join with others to help them to also be God-inspired and self-empowered, then you have no problems. Although the name God is not specifically referenced in the teachings of Reiki (that would exclude members of non-Christian religions who call Creator by other names), it is understood that Universal energy of Reiki is a direct thought-manifestation of Creator... and that anyone (regardless of race/creed/color) can learn to access and utilize it. So Reiki in no way would go against what your fiancée’s beliefs, unless she only believed that what God has created has to be approved for use by the Church's clergy and specifically listed in the bible. If she believes this last statement, then you are going to have some difficulty becoming a Reiki practitioner, desiring to talk about it, give her treatments, hear you talking to others about it, etc. Maybe better to wait for a while, to see how many common understandings your relationship is based on... or not.
The only reason that I would think a person would not be attuned is that they or their Spirit does not want it. They might have self-guilt for not living up to Creator's divine plan... or they might not have dealt with past Karma, therefore not learning their spiritual lessons... ready to move from victimization to 'co-creator' status.
While it is true that some people choose not to have an attunement, or more precisely stated... to forego re-attunements to higher levels of Reiki because of the 'probably' 21 day (+/-) purification cycle. If the logical mind chooses to remain in control, and does not want to feel the uncomfortableness that is brought to the surface of consciousness as a result of the attunement. Generally, the purification raises the vibrations of one's energy bodies (that comprise the aura, and hence the physical form) so that issues 'buried' within our being come to our awareness so that we can consciously choose to correct the erroneous thoughts/patterns/memories that cause us to not act like gods having a physical experience. The more issues that have been buried, the 'harder' the purification. But it usually does not incapacitate a person from carrying on normal duties... but more has the 'feeling' of early symptoms of an on-coming bout of influenza; achy muscles, dizziness, headache, emotional reactions, renewed awareness' of old, sublimated pains, etc. And this can last an 'average' of 21 days, although mostly experienced in shorter periods of time, but occasionally lasting for several months. It depends on how many issues one has buried within them, and directly proportional to the amount of energy exerted to keep them from surfacing. So if you are juggling 'how you want others to see you' as opposed to 'presenting yourself as you really are', then you might be well-informed to delay the attunement to Reiki until you have passed an energy-intensive focus... like marriage, honeymoon, growing comfortable with someone. I would recommend doing Reiki, when you have your life in some fashion of order, and you have the time to devote to self-treatment and practice of the techniques you will learn. The system works... if you work with it. It is notorious for bring on major changes in one's life, and it speeds up the natural flow of events in one's life. And if you are so busy that you do not feel you have the capacity to handle more on your proverbial plate, then it might be advisable to wait for a bit of time, until your life is a bit more balanced, and you feel you have some semblance of control over it.
Answer: Well, I hope I don't present a faux paux here with what I am about to say... so if anyone reading this has specific questions.... Please write to me individually, and I will answer your questions as best I can. Probably the hardest concept to understand when desiring to take Reiki training is... 'what is the attunement, what does it do, and can someone use it in undesirable way against me?" Now I know that there is a lot of mystique about Reiki, the attunements, and the symbols... and that was designed to create 'desire' to want to learn it. And it apparently has worked very well.... hehe. The attunement (in my understanding and ability to convey it with words) is an energy connection to a frequency of energy that is much higher/faster than that which we normally draw upon in our everyday state of consciousness. Or... better stated... it is a re-connection to something that we have always had, but have lost sight of because we believe that we have become separated from our Life-Source (i.e. God). If after we are born, we have 'enlightened' parents, who continuously reinforce Who We Really Are (God-Spirit having a physical experience) and that we are capable of performing everyday tasks that would otherwise be considered 'miraculous' by the masses, then we might well be creating the reality that we desire, healing ourselves and others, receiving gifts of abundance from Universe, perhaps raising the dead, and more. But instead, from conception we are told "No", "You can't do that", "It is sinful to think that way", "We will incur the wrath of God", etc. So we lose sight of our natural gifts that are ours because of our creation. One such gift is to be able to sense/discern all levels of energy (gross and subtle alike), focus our mind on a specific frequency of energy to discern what effect it has on our physical body as well as the layers of energy that make up our physical expression. We would find energies that could replenish us spiritually/mentally/emotionally/physically, and even heal any imbalance/condition that came as a result of our 'forgetting' 'whose' we are. Well, through Reiki, Usui Sensei (the enlightened founder and teacher of the system of natural healing) gave us a focus tool that helps us to remember this energy, to be able to recall it at will, to accumulate it into our Hara (storehouse of life-force), to cause us to call forth the fullness of Who We Really Are in our body-temples, to live a happy, joyful, stress-free life, and give it to others for the same purposes. He developed a method of attunement (placing his intent for us to recall and remember this frequency of Creator) and to be able to discover its potential when introduced into our own body and the bodies of others. He called this 're-connecting' an 'empowerment'. And it is not unlike all of the various empowerments that we have all had throughout our lifetime(s)... birth, baptism, circumcision, Bar Mitzvah, graduation, marriage, childbirth, death, etc. In fact, the attunement has a similarity (energetically) to all of these... rolled into one. It literally is an empowering of our being by someone who has come to the understanding of Who They Are (in relation to those who don't know...yet). Energetically, something happens that cannot easily be explained in common words, but not unlike the feeling after a many-day celebration of dance, drumming, partaking of mind-altering substances, etc. experienced by African tribe members passing into manhood or womanhood. And learning the techniques of Reiki is reinforcing what we can do when we consciously choose to utilize the higher frequencies of energy that are made available to us via the empowerment/attunement. And isn't that why we have incarnated into physical form... to celebrate the experience of Spirit through the sensory organs of the body? So Reiki is a ceremony.... do we have to partake of it... no, not at all, but we would certainly want to, because it is a 'shortcut' of sorts to reclaiming our creation birthrights of being 'like Gods'... in His image... capable of all that Jesus showed that he could do.. and more. So, where is there anything that could be misunderstood about Reiki as one of the 'passages' that can help us in our spiritual re-awakening?
