Answer: Don't put your expectations on Reiki healing anything. Reiki is a spiritual discipline that brings more 'Spirit' (higher vibration of Who We Are) into the body, which helps us to be more present (in the moment), more joyful (in our Earthly experiences), and less stressed (relaxation means greater flow of energy). When we are less stressed, we have less worries/concerns and life is more meaningful (we discover our real purpose). And... healing (more appropriately... wholing) happens within our body systems through purification of all that limits the full expression of Who We Are... which is "Spirit/Creator" having a physical experience. As a result, the immune systems becomes stronger, and the systems within the body more balanced and 'healing' is one of the side benefits that can arise because of continued daily self-treatments of Reiki.
I ask you to consider that if a body were less stressed, and there were more joy and purpose experienced in daily life, would you think that myopia might also be positively affected. I think it would. So how to do a treatment on the eyes.....
a. Do Reiki one eye at a time... give several treatments to the eyes per day, shorter, more frequent treatment are better than one longer one.
b. Place the small finger in the inner canthus of the eye.... where the eye meets the nose; place the ring and middle fingers on the eye lid.... lightly feeling the curvature of the eyeball; place the first finger on the outer canthus of the eye.... these positions are touched very lightly.
c. Place the other hand on the back of the head just above the occiput (base of the skull). Most of all, don't put expectations of time on any issue that needs healing.... remember that when our Spirit incarnated into our body, it chose to have certain conditions/situations in the life experience as opportunities to dissipate Karma ('what a person does is a direct reflection of his/her thoughts and causes an equal reaction energetically as a result of original cause) and learn valuable soul-lessons... and if lessons are not dealt with in one lifetime they can and will be carried over to subsequent lifetimes until learned and original action/cause is changed. And mostly, we are here to learn that we are truly co-creators of our reality.... if we choose dis-ability(in-ability to be normal) or limitation of function.... there lies behind it the opportunity to learn that our past thoughts/words/actions have caused the condition to be present.... and the opportunity to change our thoughts/words/actions successfully to empower ourselves to co-create our reality befitting of Who We Truly Are.

Answer: Are they for real, yes. Do they work, yes. However, they have been modified, created, or changed by people to the point that they may no longer resemble the original system brought forth by Usui sensei. Do you need them, no.
We have been studying Reiki since 1992, teaching since '94 and continuing to learn about Reiki... its roots, the history, the teachers beginning from Usui, and its capabilities. There are many branches/lineages of Reiki... but all have come from the original techniques taught by Usui Sensei, as he gained the knowledge through Satori/enlightenment. And since the additional branches have been created, (please understand that in order to make the classes 'interesting'), the system had to be changed, information deleted, and much has been added. All Reiki that contain modifiers (names that identify a separate teaching) is watered down from the original system or barely recognizable as the system Usui Sensei taught. We have been attuned to about 20 different branches of Reiki ourselves, and last August we went to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to take training in Reiho. Mr. H. Doi, a member of the Gakkai (The original Reiki society started by Usui), was allowed to travel outside of Japan to present some of the historical techniques that have virtually remained unchanged since Usui began teaching. We were so taken with the simplicity and purity of Reiho, we stopped teaching westernized versions of Reiki and have dedicated our teaching to Reiho so that all practitioners can experience Usui's system and energy. Yes, the attunements, as developed by Usui remain virtually unchanged, are more powerfully felt by practitioners because it is closer to the source as it was taught by Usui. And where most westernized practitioners are egotistically drawn to Reiki so they can call themselves 'Healers', Japanese techniques are primarily designed for the spiritual growth of the practitioner. When a practitioner clears Karma, purifies toxins, aligns body systems, heals/wholes all perceived imbalances in his/her own body, and integrates the high vibration of Reiki into and throughout their being, then when they put their hands on someone/something that is out-of-balance, there are much quicker, lasting changes that occur. This, as opposed to western practitioner receiving all levels of Reiki training in one weekend for example, then teaching classes and offering treatments the following weekend. We stick to the understanding that 'spirituality cannot be forced.... that it comes through disciplined practice'. Reiki information can be learned from a book, but the attunements must be passed on by someone who has been attuned, integrated the energy and who has worked on self-healing of their own imbalances/issues. There is no shortcut. Good luck in your pursuit of Reiki and on your spiritual journey.
Answer: Reiki is a very high vibrational energy stream, higher than most people are able to imagine and feel without years of prior study and practice with subtle energies. And introducing it into your life will bring on many changes.... dredging up old, stuck patterns of thoughts, memories, traumas, issues, etc. Most of these we have suppressed into various organs and muscles of the body, and we put a lot of energy into ignoring them and their resulting emotions they trigger. Once you begin on your 'spiritual path', you are making a lifetime commitment to Spirit/God/Creative-Principle to consciously eliminate these energetic blocks from all levels of your Being, and it is close-to-impossible to change your mind when Spirit stands behind you urging you to return to your true 'co-creative' status. Trying to stop the process of raising your vibrations is very uncomfortable, and you will experience some of this discomfort as it is worked on and transmuted, but not nearly to the degree of trying to re-suppress this 'stuff'. There may be times when you ask yourself if you really made the right decision to become attuned to Reiki, but in the long run, you will praise your wise decision to do so. I say this, Lisa, because Reiki is not just a technique that you learn so that you can heal others.... it is more than that. It is primarily designed to work on yourself, to transmute all of the blockages that keep you from expressing and experiencing the fullness of Who You Really Are.... 'Spirit' having a physical experience. You are urged by us, by a few other experienced master-level practitioners to not be in a hurry to rush through the various levels of Reiki, but rather to experience the actions and reactions that arise from continued self-practice and self-treatments. This is not to say that you can't work on others, primarily your family and close friends, but we suggest you don't run out like so many practitioners to hang your 'shingle' as a bona fide Reiki 'healer'. You and your clients will be grossly disappointed in the outcomes. Reiki is for you... to clear your own body of all that blocks the energy pathways/meridians, to purify your body of stress and resulting emotions and chemicals created by that stress, to open your body-temple to the inflow of more of your Spirit's presence, to make room for storage of more light vibrations within your cellular make-up so you can shine your God-essence to all who see you, and to store greater amounts of Chi/Ki energy in your Hara, so your God/Spirit can make a stronger statement in the physical world of manifested form. When you integrate Reiki into your Being, you will experience greater energy, less stress, more of your spiritual purpose, more joy in living, and less concern for the false projections of mind/ego's illusions of grandeur, fortune and all things of an impermanent nature. When you achieve this state of balance and homeostasis, you will be holding a great amount of light/love/energy within your body, and when you are called to place your hands (tools by which you transfer Reiki energy) on someone or onto something that is lacking in energy, structured balance and equilibrium, then you will be able to impress another with God/Reiki energy and changes will take place for those whom you touch. Until you process and heal your own issues, you will not as greatly affect the imbalances existing in others. When you are whole and you know Who You Are, you can more positively help another to experience the same qualities. So remember, spirituality is not something that can be bought, it is not instantaneous, and it can not be forced upon another before they choose that path for themselves and treat it in a responsible manner.

Answer: If you are attuned to Reiki, you have connection to that energy stream whenever anyone/anything within your auric presence is out-of-balance or low in energy. The 'object/person' (massage client) will pull the amount of energy through you in the amount proportional to the need/lack. You actually do not need to do anything, because you are giving Reiki whenever you are giving massage or just placing your hands on someone. But this does not mean that you should just receive the Reiki attunement and do nothing else to increase the flow of Reiki in, through and around your life and the lives of all that you touch. I recommend disciplining your mind to set aside a minimum of one hour per day to self-Reiki treatments. This will help you to release misqualified energies from your own body/mind/spirit unit that limits the expression of Who You Are and purifying the physical body of toxins, thought-forms, traumatic memories, erroneous patterns/scripts that keep you from fully loving yourself as the temple of Spirit/God. The daily Reiki will also help to increase the capacitiy of meridians (energy channels) in your body to hold and transfer greater amounts of lifeforce/Chi/Reiki to all that you touch. Reiki (in my opinion) is not a 'healing technique' to only be given to others, but first and foremost a spiritual discipline that will help to increase the vibratory frequencies of Reiki practitioners, to bring in more energy to their phyisical vehicle, to help one to uncover their Divine purpose for being, to relieve stress from one's daily routines, and to be more joyful in one's relationship to all s/he encounters. This cannot happen according to a time schedule... this may or may not be accomplished within this lifetime. But when a practitioner is filled with Reiki, and it becomes a way-of-life, a chosen response to all that life presents to them, then they will find that 'healing' is also accomplished within their own total Being. When others sense their inner peace, the expression of their inner Spirit, their wholeness... they will want for to learn how to accomplish the same within their lives. I don't think that Reiki practitioners were ever intended to place themselves into the service of healing others, without first fully understanding and experiencing 'radiant lifeforce/wholeness" within their own lives first. But to the point of your original question... being a massage therapist myself, I do intentionally incorporate Reiki into my massage treatments. I do this to introduce Reiki to a client, and to leave them with excess energy as they leave to reconnect with their busy schedules. If a client is new to massage and nervous, I sometimes place my hands on their shoulders to relax them. I sometimes place my hands on the face (head position #1) when I detect tension and pain in the muscles/nerves. When I work on their abdominal area, I always place my hands above-and-below the navel to help relax the organs from the deep, stimulating work that I performed there. And I finish up the massage by holding the K-1 accupressure point (bubbling spring) for a minute or so, then lightly hold one hand at the top of the head (fontanelle), while holding the other hand lightly on the Hara (just below the navel). When I feel the energy flow balanced at both points, I usually sweep the aura upwards, from feet to head, to help re-establish alertness in the brain/mind. There is no 'right-or-wrong' way to incorporate Reiki into a massage routine, but these are some that I use regularly... also I give Reiki to any area I detect to be in need of gentle, warming, and nurturing care (often in pain from injury and/or stress). Hope this helps.
Answer:I would very much like to tell you that Reiki can heal your knee problems, but I can't do that. Reiki is ": 'Inconceivable spiritual ability utilizing the generative forces of heaven and earth’. That is to say that when we align everything within our being to the perfection of Heaven and Earth, then we will regain balance and wholeness. So Reiki is not so much a healing technique (regardless of what most practitioners say about it) as it is a spiritual discipline for gaining enlightenment, and hence the ability to change our thoughts, works, actions and habits to support 'perfection' within ourselves. This is not something that happens instantly, but over an 'unknown' period of time with disciplined mind and practice. No doubt that Reiki would help relieve some of your pains/discomforts, but to ask that Reiki 'heal' your knee without making changes within yourself (cause of the original injury) that support your 'concept' of dis-ease, I assume that you will become disenchanted with Reiki, and think that it is over-rated. I [Light] have seen major changes within my life, but not without it changing my 'mis-conceptions' that I held about 'life' and the rules that I thought I could manipulate to my desired good. So, in summation, Reiki is an energy that will help anyone to get into right alignment with the Universe/Creator/God, and when we live according to the Divine Plan, we will no longer experience imbalance nor dis-ease. Achieving this state of consciousness can take years, or even lifetimes, but remember that we humans gain 'merit' that helps us to improve future incarnations when we attempt to live to the highest ideals that have been laid down for us through the wisemen of all major religions.
Answer: At this moment in time (things can always change
Siddham said to have been Divinely inspired through the Buddha circa 480bc... is where the Harmony symbol comes from... it went from India to China and Japan. Usui did travel to China and much Japanese information originated or came through there including Kanji and Buddhism. Buddhist texts in Sanskrit were taken to China and translated. China is said to have one of the most complete sets of ancient Buddhist documents (some claim even more than Tibet). Since Sensei was Japanese, Chinese would be easy for him to learn and it would make sense that he'd look there if he could not find information in Japan.
The system we call Reiki today is compiled from many sources i.e. Buddhism, Taoism, Ki Ko (Qi Gong) and so forth. I don't think one can look to any one place and find a system like Reiki. It was IMHO created by Usui sensei from his satori (Universal understanding) and his learned knowledge; its origins as 'a system' do not go any further back than Usui himself, so would have no other name. For example I don't believe (at this moment) that the energy, techniques and empowerments of Reiki are strictly Buddhist or Taoist, etc. and one cannot look to any one or combination of sutras to find the keys. Keys for enlightenment, yes. Keys to healing, yes... but not in the form of Reiho. Of late I have been guided to look to the Medicine Buddha sutra for further understanding; in Japan he is called Yakushi Nyorai. When one does the Medicine Buddha sadhana they gain through union with Menla the ability to do healing. Since we truly don't know what Usui taught this may have been part of his original training, speculation. Medicine Buddha practice also gives one the knowledge of certain medicines and practices to boost the effectiveness of cures. Most of Shakyamuni Buddha's teachings refer to leading a good life, being a good person, being grateful and thankful, etc. (sounds like the Reiki precepts). Buddha says that all is mind, if one suffers it is because of their state of mind (not wanting to be in Divine alignment, or not recognizing it)... their thoughts have turned away from source, so there is separation and duality; thus suffering). There is not much in Buddhism that I know of on healing except in Medicine Buddha teachings. There are some Buddhist Reiki Practitioners that believe Reiki's origin is in the Lotus sutra. Since Amida and Kannon are from the Lotus family, it makes sense that they would think this. If this is accurate Reiki is not about healing at all, but about enlightenment (healing being a by product.... hummm sounds familiar).
Hopefully new/old information will come out soon in this regard and most of the speculation will end. Ultimately it is important to not get caught up in what was... just utilize this lovely gift called Reiho to benefit all creation.
Answer: On the subject of Reiju, why would you think it would be any different than anything you have learned in western Reiki? All Reiki/Reiho/Reiju works for the highest good of the person, what ever that may be. Yes it causes a relaxed seemingly altered state, as does a Reiki treatment or attunement. This altered state is our natural way of being before all the extraneous emotions, thoughts, stresses, etc.
Doing Reiju on oneself one or more times a day is wonderful, as it will move one move quickly beyond their current difficulties. It does not always result in 'Spiritual Ecstasy' it gives the person what they need to experience. It will not give them what they want, so if using it only to achieve 'Spiritual Ecstasy' will not result in fulfilling desires. Instead it will fill them with Divine energy and move them beyond the addictive cravings.
Reiki/Reiho/Reiju will never do harm, it may however make one more sensitive and it may seem like pain/patterns are intensifying for a short time. This is necessary to complete the process of healing. If one covers the symptoms/pain with drugs it only masks them so they seem like they are gone, but the core problem is still there and will come back more intensely in the future. In the same vein if one does not deal with their issues/addictions they will not go away. Reiki/Reiho/Reiju will help the person by giving them the energy necessary to make the change if they truly want it and will release the core pattern/issue/illness forever. Remember, that many times people get benefit from an illness/addiction in the form of attention from others which they see as a goodness (albeit negative attention). Therefore when presented with something that will effect change, they may reject it and say something like it hurts me to do that (blaming Reiki for causing them to feel physical or emotional pain).
Reiju actually is an attunement of sorts.... it is the only way that the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai Shinpiden attune their students... in time with 'X' number of Reiju's (determined by the person) a person will be opened fully to the energy of Reiki. The difference between an attunement and Reiju is that Reiju is more of an energy blessing and gentler. It cleanses, purifies and aligns the aura and energy bodies so one will be more closely aligned with all that is of a Divine nature... that means alignment with fullness of who and what they are... to know one's purpose and begin doing it. And yes, it can result in being in a state of bliss.... one where there is no attachment or addiction to anything (substance or person).
Reiju is not something that you teach to just anyone, one must be at the master (shinpiden) level before they learn it. Otherwise they will not carry enough energy within their bodies to pass much energy during the Reiju empowerment, whether doing it on themselves or others. So they will not feel much, be discouraged, think nothing is happening and stop the Reiki process entirely.
You as a Teacher can give Reiju to anyone, but do realize that it will eventually attune them to Reiki, which is a responsibility that they need to be aware of. Attuning them to Reiki, teaching them about it and helping them to be responsible for themselves is the ultimate. At that point it is up to them how fast changes happen; the more Reiki they do the faster the changes will happen.
