St. John Ambulance Malaysia is a voluntary organisation, so public duty is part of the St. John Ambulance Malaysia of Keat Hwa Secondary School Divisional's activities. The aim of public duty is to help the victim of any tragedy.
This public duty can only be carried out by the cadet and adult members while the recruit do not have the rights to be involved in public duty except for the special case. While on duty, the members involved must have their uniforms on and discipline must be on tiptop condition. As a first aider, they must have the intention and are responsible to help the needies.
It is difficult for the members to do their duties well due to hot weather. Sometimes raining makes it even more difficult. Despite all the obstacles faced, the members always try their very best to give the best service for the community because they always believe in 'Service For Mankind'.
All the public duties and other matters involving public duties were managed by The Attendance and Public Duties Supervisor as well as his assistant. These were controlled by school too. After obtaining approval from the school, the supervisor will send the members for the duties. Public duties usually consist of an adult member who is the leader of the duty. The leader will approach the organiser to discuss the duties' matters. The leader will then send a report to the supervisor.
According to the St. John Ambulance Malaysia's constitution, St. John's cadet member that succeed in doing their duties more than 200 hours, the member will be awarded a 'Special Service Shild'. Up to today, 6 of our members had obtained the badge.
