Negative Talk

Negative talk is one of the major reasons why we suffer from anxiety. One of the reasons you stay in an anxious moment is the way that you talk to yourself.

1. You must learn to have compassion for yourself.

2. You must learn to talk yourself out of being afraid.

3. You must learn to talk to yourself in a relaxing, soothing and comfortaining way.

4. You must learn to use positive talk to talk to yourself out of a panic attack.

5. You must learn to use positive talk instead of negative talk when you feel you have failed at something or done something wrong.

6. You must learn how to replace the negative thoughts with positive.

Often what puts you in a panic attack and keeps you there is the way you talk to yourself. Here is some examples of negative talk:

-"Oh no. Here it comes again. I don't think I can take it."

-"I'm feeling terrible, I can't stay here, I have to get out."

-"What is wrong with me, am I going crazy?"

-"Everyone will be staring at me and think I am weird."

-"I can't be alone, I will go crazy and who will be there to help me?"

-"WHAT IF??????"

So now we need to look at how we change the negative talk to positive. We have talked this way for so many years, that it will take time. You will have to practice this daily. Learn how to replace your negative thoughts to positive.

1. Write down what is making your anxious. Ex....I can't go to the mall, there will be people everywhere.

2. Write down why you think this is making you nervous. Ex....People will see me if I panic and think I am nuts.

3. Write down a positive statement to the about. Ex....I can go to the mall and enjoy myself. If I do panic, I will go outside or get something to drink or sit down. It will pass and I won't let it interfer with my shopping.

Now, this will take practice so don't give up on the first try. You can use this at any time you feel anxious about anything, just turn what you said into positive and before long you won't need to write down negative/positive, you will automatically begin to think positive. This is the first important step to recovery. You need to be compationate with yourself. Did you notice that is just took a few words to say something negative? Learn how to talk to yourself. I promise you, you will see results, just be patient. I am proof, IT WORKS!!!!!
