We started a twelve step recovery programme in 1982 and we found that a certain percentage of our clients had, the following charcteristics :
  1. They had Mental Confusion.
They had no idea of why abstenance was a prerequisite to recovery programme.

  2. They had an Emotional One Way Street.
Their families could feel the way the addicts felt but they (the clients) could not feel how anybody felt.

  3. They had sense of Overreacting to anything they did not like.

  4. They could not withstand any Stress.

  5. They did not have the concept of relevancy.
We decided to improve these aspects by giving them stimuli that would be always positive. So we started YOGA and Meditation which loosened their muscles.
Pranayama made them breathe more deeply. YOGA MASSAGE gave them a certain relief and made them feel that they were given "treatment" using non-drug techniques of Naturopathy, Yoga and Meditation.
Naturopathy treatment made them more balanced.
The theme is not to put Councelling in the begining part of the treatment because there is so much mental confusion, but to increase the efficiency of all the glandular systems that create much of a mood and mind, so the clarity is the end.
So therefore we have programme that starts early morning at 6 am and goes on till 10 pm in the night where something is done to them and this feel good. We have created a sobriety space of about 120 days at which point the 'mental and emotional fuzz' seems to lift.
