The Physical Body
Here are some suggestions to help your physical body operate at better efficiency.
- Read food labels. Avoid foods that have artificial colors & flavors, preservatives, added sugars, partially hydrogenated oils, white flour, etc. Your body does best when it is given natural substances as opposed to chemical substances. Beware, our "helpful" government agencies sometimes allow additives to be included in the ingredient list under natural flavorings. Processed foods are likely to have some of their additives included under natural flavors.
- You are a whole person and need to eat whole foods. Pick whole grain breads, cereals, brown rice, etc., over their refined counterparts.
- Unless you have a specific health condition, include a high percentage of fresh fruit and vegetables and whole grains in your diet. Meat and Dairy can be consumed in small quantities or avoided altogether, depending on your needs.
- Make an effort to include as much organic produce, grains, and other foods in your diet. Make sure the organic products are certified by a recognized independent 3rd party agency.
- If you must eat meat and dairy, look for organic meat and dairy products. If you cannot get organic, look for free range animals that are NOT injected with growth hormones, and antibiotics. Generally, Kosher meat is of better quality than most commercially produced meat.
- Consider taking a good quality daily nutritional supplement. Avoid the ones that have artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, fillers, and/or their vitamins/minerals are derived using chemical substances. Monitor how you feel, overall, after taking the supplements.
- Unless you have a severe health condition, you may want to use up the current food you already have; replace it with the better quality food when you run out. Sometimes changing your eating habits too quickly may be more than your system can comfortably handle.
- Most drinking water has severe deficiencies. Consider purchasing a good filtration system. Do your homework since price doesn't always mean quality. For peace of mind, make sure the unit is certified by NSF International to reduce a wide range of contaminants. Presently, bottled water is generally unregulated and may be no better than municipal water. Remember, drinking water is used for cooking as well as drinking. Boiling water only kills the bacteria, and actually increases the chemical and/or heavy metal concentrations because of evaporation.
- Change your personal care products to ones that are more natural. Look for herbal formulations rather than a long list of chemicals. Remember, your skin is the largest organ and these chemicals can be absorbed right through the skin into your bloodstream.
- Protect your skin from sun damage. Use a good quality (natural) sunscreen when your skin will be exposed to the sun.
- Avoid recreational drugs, alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, etc. These all put a strain on the body and most leach vitamins and minerals from the body.
- Exercise your body regularly. Pick activities that work your cardiovascular system, and muscle systems. Develop good breathing habits while exercizing. Choose activities that you are likely to continue; if you enjoy it, you are more likely to keep up your program. Start slow and gradually build up your routine. Resist the temptation to do too much too soon. If you injure yourself, you will miss the benefits of exercize while you heal. Some good all around activities are swimming and walking. Consult with your health care provider when starting a physical fitness program.
