I WANT TO MAKE BRAIN INJURY SURVIVOR HISTORY

Yes, I got this from the phrase, make smoking history. Just my opinion. I believe people in the Media and even in the Medical field. The word SURVIVOR is being used too loosely. Like if the word survivor lost its meaning or it just means surviving.

We/some people know what we mean. Do they really?? They might say yea, that's okay, I do that too. Someone breaks a leg today, then is walking down the street (3 months or so later) without a brace or a cane. Then that person is a Survivor right?? Survivors, are we not all Survivors?? Of course we are, we are the ones here trying to educate Society, about our experiences. Survivors, that's in the past tense. Yes, we are all survivors of an accident or something that happened in the past. If we survived at the time of the accident that would have been the easy part. Now the hard part is surviving brain injury in one way or another.

This is a challenge, this is now/today people, even some papers have stopped using head injury and replaced it with brain injury. Even today, when some people ask me, are you a survivor?? I hesitate, I hesitate big time. I don't know what to say, I don't even know how to start explaining it. I do know what they mean and expect a response so I just say yes, yes, I'm a TBI survivor. That's true, very true past tense. But today, I'm surviving brain injury. People I/we need to be heard. Yes, I'm a TBI survivor on 6-29-94, I was in a coma 3½ weeks. Please, don't label my writings as a Brain Injury survivor's story.

You can label them as writings from people surviving brain injury. Here I go talking about me, me, and me, who better. I still get headaches, (not as frequent) my endurance is improving, I think. Ask Workmen's Comp. they have people be-friend me at the gym, all the time. Thinking about the right word is still hard some times. My memory is somewhere in Mars, Houston we have a problem. So today, I'm surviving brain injury. So are you or someone you love?

Thank you people for all your support.

Peace and love….
