RECENT BATTLES

Audri's first

My First Adventure By Audriana, Aspiring Bard After months of training in hiding, magery, spirit speech and healing, I decided to start my adventuring career off in the Lost Lands. I had heard of a noble and prosperous adventuring guild that had started there, called the Hammer of Thor. After receiving directions several times to ensure I had them correct I began the dangerous decent into the disgusting sewers of Britannia. I will spare you their description; needless to say it is one of the most disgusting places imaginable! Thank the gods I can now recall past that place! After emerging into the great open again, I discovered myself in a huge swamp. I ran for what seemed like hours with all kinds of horrors pursuing me; I began to rethink my choice to become an adventurer. Finally I arrived in Delucia, after only getting lost twice (pretty good I think!). There I met Lord Adren, a high-ranking member of the guild, second only to Lord Lathor, the Guild Master. We spoke briefly and he accepted me into the guild. He gave me several complete sets of armor, a few magic items, and several recall stones. He also gave me Skydancer, a beautiful roan mare; I instantly fell in love with such a lovely creature! Adren had to leave, he recommended I go with a group of guild members headed to the Ophidian keep. There I met Master Phoenix who gave me a bag of scrolls to add to my spell book. We recalled near the keep, and Lord Lestat placed enchanted boxes that prevented the hideous creatures from crossing. Brave Master Mortis would run ahead and entice the creatures to follow him back to our trap. Then we would cast spells, fire arrows, and engage in melee with the creatures. My job, as a healer, was to heal of course! The whole time we were setting up I was brimming with excitement! I couldn't wait to feel the rush of battle to see the fear in our enemy's faces when they fell to our powerful blows. Then Master Mortis lead a group of the horrid Ophidians towards us. I didn't know exactly what an Ophidian was, until I saw one. They are huge snake-like creatures. They slither with the speed of a running horse and reek of death and decay. As they approached I could hear the hissing of their foul breath and I suddenly wanted to run. Lord Mortis cast a powerful spell that allowed him to pass the enchanted boxes. The Ophidians were halted, all six of them. Then the guild, my guild (I'm in it I can say that!), laid into them. Suddenly there were walls of searing heat erupting from the ground and lightning falling from the sky all around the Ophidians. They had nowhere to run to and their shrieking cries filled the air. As the fires finally died down several minutes later we could see they were charred and hardly standing. Lord Lestat began calling bolts of lightning from the sky to destroy the creatures. The others began firing arrows, and Master Phoenix leaned over the boxes to hack at the disgusting beasts. I realized no one had been hurt, so I decided to be ambitious. I began playing my lute to enrage the creatures into fighting each other. My first attempt worked as two of them began fighting each other as evil always does. Then I decided to attempt the one that looked like their leader. I played an angry and dissident chord to enrage her in to combat with the other Ophidians, but she was smarter than the others. I enraged her all right, she directed her attack towards me. She began casting a spell and I was frozen with fear. Then I saw an enormous wall of flame as it enveloped me and everything went dark. The next thing I knew I was laying on the ground with Lord Lestat over me. He had cast powerful magics to raise me from the dead! I was so awed I couldn't speak for a while. As if dying wasn't enough of a bad hair day, I found out that poor Skydancer had died in the fiery inferno as well. I begged Master Lestat to raise him as well, but he said it was not possible. I shouldered my grief and went on. Some of the Ophidians were still up, but Lords Phoenix, Lathor, and Mortis were quickly dispatching them. After collecting my things and replacing my armor, I healed myself and began healing the others that were hurt. We collected the booty from the horrible Ophidian corpses and recalled back to Delucia. I spent my share of the money to buy reagents for my spells. I used what was left to buy a stunning new black dress with gold highlights that match my exquisite cape and a matching hat. After all even an adventurer must look good! My wardrobe looked absolutely stunning! Unfortunately I have to take the hat while in battle to wear my helm, or the hat would get crinkled, that will not do! After deciding I need to work on my skills some, I spent most of the day practicing. I went about in the woods provoking wild animals to attack each other. After I had become fairly certain I had mastered the provoking skills I needed, I went north to where I had been told where an entire fort of Orks lived. There are always brave warriors there preventing the hordes of Orks from descending upon the citizens of Delucia. Surely I could use my skills to aid them? When I arrived I saw warriors all around me slaying Orks, but new ones came forth from the fort just as quickly as they were slew. I quickly began to use my skills to force the stupid Orks to fight each other. After only a few minutes I had most of the Orks turning upon each other. The battle was turning around in our favor! Then I saw that several of the Orks had realized what was happening and were headed towards me to force me to stop. I began to run, my meager skills with the mace were not enough to take on three Orks. I ran around the corner of the fort and suddenly before me was a pair of skeletal knights. They moved menacingly towards me, and I saw the undead fire burning within their eyes. I realized I was trapped, three Orks behind me and two Skeletal Knights before me. I decided to use my mage skills and recall back to town. In my haste to escape the danger I did not pay attention which rune I was using. I cast the spell and was suddenly whizzed away to another place, safe from the danger, or so I thought. When I could see clearly, I realized my dilemma, I had used the wrong rune. Instead of arriving safe in town I was surrounded by two enormous Ettins and a wretched Troll somewhere in the Oasis. Once again I began to run for my life. Luckily for me such huge creatures are slow and I out ran them. I hid myself in a copse of trees and began healing my wounds, which were suprisingly slight considering all that had happened. I carefully inspected and reinspected my rune to insure I was using the right one. I cast the spell again, in the back of my mind I was expecting another dangerous arrival, but I arrived back safe in Delucia. After a moment of pure joy and relief, I saw Angelique, a fellow guild member. I took off my helm to impressive her with my new hat, when I realized it was gone! I searched all over, I dumped my backpack out, but it was nowhere to be seen. There was only one possibility, SOMEONE STOLE MY HAT! I was MAD! I spent a lot of time picking out that hat. It matched my dress, hair, and complexion perfectly! It would be a long time before I found another hat like it. I spent the rest of my first day adventuring looking for the dishonest thief who stole my wonderful hat! May the gods help him if I ever find the miscreant! He'll be sorry! What a horrible day! I died, my horse died, I recalled to the wrong place and SOMEONE STOLE MY HAT! Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
