The Parents of Richard Howell of Southold, Long Island, NY
Our only indications of the orgins of the parents of Richard Howell are from family traditions. As of this time, no ship passage records have been found, no definitive birth records in England, and no specific marriage information has been identified. Tradition indicates Richard's father's name was John and his mother is known only as "Widow Howell." Some have used the name "John" in their genealogical efforts. However, until documentation is found, it is speculative. Others question the accuracy of the tradition of John because no ship or migration records have been found. However, if in fact John did leave England after receiving compensation for his land or property as tradition indicates (particularly if it is in the amount tradition states - two million pounds) it is conceivable that he may have come under an assumed name. Research continues. Some doing research feel they are making progress, as indicated by the link listed as Margaret Howell mother of Richard. One inconsistancy does arise in the fact that Margaret could not have died in Southold in the 1620s because Southould on Long Island was not settled until 1640.
Let's continue diligently in our research. |
