Derrek passed away July 3, 2003. Here's his story....click for Derrek He was my little cousin--i was 16 when he was born. He was very talented. He won Florida's best bassist 2003 award. There was a tribute concert to him last summer in Tampa. Too young to die...why do they die so young? It was his time. Life is too short. Tell somebody that you love them today. Don't take anybody for granted because in a second they could be gone.
I know he had alot of friends and i know they loved him very much. I hope that he found Jesus along the way because i will see him again. Sometimes you wonder if when people die..if they really were saved or like you wonder...if they did have a personal friendship with their God.....i am hoping that he did just that and it was just his time to go home. Some choze to keep it quiet and some don't. I have chozen to make a loud noize about what i believe thru my music using the talent that God gave me as an offering back to Him.
My parents lost a son at 20 yrs old. He was driving home from his counsin's high school graduation. It was late and he was sleepy. He fell asleep at the wheel. His time was up that day, too. I have always wondered bout him also...if he had found Jesus along the way. One day i did meet up with a friend of his and they told me that Gene did have a love for God and that he was a great guy in that respect and they had thought pretty much that Gene did know Jesus.. I was happy to hear that, but i guess i will never know until its my turn to die and if i see him in heaven.
Death really sucks, but hey..its better than life because we will be with our God and there will be no more crying..no more tears...but only joy. What more can you ask for when you are with all your best friends in a place where you can totally be forever praising the King.
