Hermione is Harry's best friend other than Ron. Hermione is Muggle-born, but still the top student in their grade. Her cleverness can land the trio into trouble, but it can also get them out of it. Draco Malfoy picks on Hermione because she is Muggle-born and smarter than him, although he is of a pure wizarding family. He also makes fun of her bushy brown hair and large front teeth. So do the other Slytherins, but in Book Four, this teasing helps her teeth shrink! Hermione became friends with Harry and Ron after they battled a mountain troll loose in the girls' bathroom.
