Biography

In December 2001, I received my Master degree in Urban and Regional Planning. As you can see from my resume, I am interested in both Urban Design and Landscape Architecture. In the past years, I had lots of opportunities doing art works in schools. I received my B.S. Forestry degree in Taiwan, and got into Landscape Architecture program in University of Colorado at Denver. However, I studied in Landscape program for only three semesters, and then transferred to Urban and Regional Planning program.

Summer 2001, I worked in Colorado Center of Community Development for my internship. I had experiences in organizing projects, reviewing and creating site plans, as well as speaking in community meetings. (Please see ¡§Portfolio¡¨ page) The projects I was in were Georgetown Corridor Renewal and Hayden Ball Fields And Creek Trails design. For both of the projects, I not only did research, but also created site plan and concept / final drawings. I had public meetings in Georgetown and Hayden, and I presented in Georgetown with residents.

Moreover, I took five studios in school: three landscape architecture studios, one urban design studio, and one urban planning studio. Landscape architecture studios set up a complete design concept progress for me, and showed many great graphic examples as well. I learned not only design, but the environment, human behavior, and basic engineering. In urban design studio, I focused on open space and recreation paths. The project was in a vacant land of Castle Rock, Colorado. Our task was to analyze the area, set up zoning, and make up a town. What I did for individual project were a city park and the bike routes in this future town. It was a challenge because I have to do research for local transportation, land condition, and many other details. Our final presentation was in Castle Rock city hall. In Planning Studio, I had lots of experience in residential and commercial design exercises. It was more practical to me because I followed the law and zoning. My final project was for Alameda corridor. The 200-foot-wide avenue is going to be renewed to set up a future downtown of City of Lakewood, Colorado. Our studio took it as an exercise and had final jury with jurors who came from the planning department.

The reason why I enjoy urban planning and landscape architecture can be traced back to my childhood. I was born and grew up in Taipei, which is the capital and a high-density city in Taiwan. Although it is the largest and the most modern city in Taiwan, Taipei does not have much open space for residents. But in the past 6 years, government realized that a good city should have good living quality at first. Therefore, parks, street flowers, and sculptures have been showing up in Taipei. The city appears in a different way that is really amazing and fast. Subway stations are clean and have lots of art activities in its underground retail streets. Public transportation is great in Taipei. More and more recreation routes have been renewed. I love urban life, and I would love to make every busy city, all around the world, to be a flourishing and nice living environment.
