My loft in a wintery scenery!

Welcome to my homepage. My name is Henk Tiel and I'm from Deventer, Holland. As in the old days, it was very common that being a pigeon fancier went from father to son. Okay, not always, but many sons got interested because of their father. I grew up in a family where many relatives were pigeon fanciers. My father, but also my grandfather and three of his brothers. Being a child it was common to join my father going to the club and being 12 I got my own loft. From that day on I became a member of PV Het Centrum in Deventer. From that time on I was totally hooked on racing pigeons. Me and my father were racing as a combination (Comb. M. Tiel & son), but each from his own loft. Great were the times that I outraced my father with one or more birds and pretty tough the times that neither one of us ended upfront. Growing older its more easy to cope with bad results but in the old days it could ruin a weekend for me.

After the sudden death of my father in 1987 is was natural that I got on with our birds. After a difficult start (animals do care for the person who take care of them!) I got to know my fathers pigeons a lot better and the results followed soon after. From 1989 till now I always managed to end high in the endresults.

My favorite races are those till about 400 miles, probably because I still can't wait for so long for my birds to arrive.

Hopefully this site will provide al lot of interesting stuff so it's worthwhile to come back again. I do my best to update as most as I can.
